You could drive down to Cincinnati and gain a few degrees. Should have a nice tailwind.

Come on around the lake, it’s downright balmy.

Yeah, Wed here, the high is 40, low 35. So, not even below freezing at night.

So much rubber-banding with this weather.

Yikes, power’s out. If it’s a wind taken out a line, this could be a while to fix :(

Good luck. My power was dropping all morning before finally going out for a half hour. Not pleasant when it’s 6 below.

It was only out for 2 hours (this time)…

Great!

Lost power at 7:30 this morning. Got it back at around Noon but those 4.5 hours dropped the house to about 57 degrees. With the horrible wind and the temp outside hovering at 1, my furnace was working overtime to get the house back up to comfort levels.

Then we lost power again at 4:30. Currently holed up at a friend’s house with our dogs who are freaking out. Left the cat in the house with a bunch of food. Hopefully the power will stabilize once the wind dies down. We are literally a minute drive from our house. Power grids are weird.

Sorry to hear it, that was my stress, how long will it last, what’s the priority, where is the bottom threshold after X hours without power. There’s something to be said for a cabin with a fireplace, at least you can lay in supplies against chaos.

I’ve spent the last two days driving from Michigan down to St. Pete FL. Left early Thursday morning before the cold got that far east, and all day Thursday it was just cloudy with occasional rain. Spent the night outside Chattanooga TN, and when I woke up this morning the temp had dropped 50 degrees. One of my car doors froze shut, but that was the only real difficulty. They didn’t get much snow, and I didn’t hit the road until about 8:30, by which time any ice on the major roads was gone. The rest of the trip down through GA and FL was windy, but no storming.

The temp is now dropping inside the building at work. I’ve got two more shifts this week, getting a bit concerned.

Wind has picked up as the day has gone on but no scary gusts and power has shown no signs of going out. Seems like cold and heavy drifting are the big concerns now. Lots of roads(including several stretches of interstate) closed all over with an additional slate of warnings for people not to go out unless it’s an emergency.

Glad you got out of here before the bad weather hit. Hope the rest of your travel is safe.

Lost power yesterday around 8AM. Got it back at 11:30 PM, so 15.5 hours. At the beginning temps were around 50. By the time power came back on, 15F. Went from rain that washed away all the snow cover, leaving flooding in its wake, to sleet to blizzard-like conditions. This morning there is like six inches or more of fresh snow again. White Christmas maybe after all for the kiddies, which is nice.

At its peak we had 50k without power just in the service area of my power company (Green Mountain Power). Those guys deserve a medal though. I remember right before going to bed last night looking out and seeing two of their trucks trundling up my dirt road in snow so thick and wind blown it looked like a scene from some disaster move. Whoever those folks were, my hat is off to them for working all day in those hellish conditions.

We lost power around 5:40pm last night and got it back around 8:30. Temps in the house really dropped despite the fireplace going the entire time. Fortunately for our neighborhood, there’s a nursing home at the end of the parkway all our subdivisions hang off of and that makes us a bit of a priority for the electric company when it comes to restoring service.

My bro in NH is still without power. Lost it at 5pm yesterday. He has a generator thankfully. 80k without it in NH right now. It’s actually warmer there (11 degrees) than it is here in PA. It’s 7 and sunny with a wind chill of -11.

Welp, no crazy weather here in California or where we were planning to spend Christmas in Colorado, but our flight last night was canceled just before boarding. They couldn’t put together a flight crew for it due to all the other canceled flights.

Going to make one more attempt today, but the only available flight they were able to rebook us on is from a more distant airport, so we’re racking up substantial shuttle bills especially if this gets canceled too and we have to go back home (and the airline policy is no compensation for weather related cancelations).

Well, the thing is Portland is mostly over, thank goodness, and amazingly I and my family members all over town didn’t experience power outages either. Today everything is turning to slush on the roads.
