Have not mentioned it recently but yeah, it’s kinda hot in Australia at the moment.

Here’s a fun thing to do if it’s super cold where you are right now. Make some water balloons with food coloring in them and leave them out to freeze. Remove the balloon when they are frozen and you get: https://twitter.com/TVnutNaomi/status/292661054356459521/photo/1

So let’s have it New Englanders… what’s Nemo doing?
(And seriously… since when did we start naming winter storms?)

I work for a university in the Boston area and they’ve stupidly decided to keep operations up and running through midday. Looking out the window, the snow has already started to come down steadily. Fun, fun, fun!
And I am also not on board with naming winter storms. Damn you, Weather Channel!
Good luck up there, from what they’re saying Boston might see up to 40" from this. Guess my parents picked a good week to go down to Florida (they live on the Cape).
West Michigan got about 6 inches where I am, but up around a foot in some places. It’s all over now, everything has moved off to the east. Cold, clear, and sunny out now. Gonna be a good weekend for anyone who wants to do outdoor winter activities around here.

HELP!
I’m supposed to be flying into Boston on Sunday for a class at EMC, maybe ten miles west of the city center. Should I be trying to cancel, not worrying since Boston knows how to handle this stuff, expecting to spend a week in the airport, or what?
You going to Milford? That’s more than 10 miles. :p
Yes, Logan airport is a pro at snow removal. But 40" is more than they’ve seen in decades. Plus, there might be overflow from all the cancelled flights on Friday and Saturday. I imagine you’ll still be able to arrive on Sunday.
Been snowing for 2 hours in southern NH. Can still see the blades of grass and street, though.

You’re right, more like 30 miles. Yeesh.
The overflow is the big danger; delays will propagate around for quite awhile I imagine. If you go, just be prepared for very long waits and delays.

Hit Long Island earlier than expected (they were calling for after dark, and it went total snow above 495 (The LIE) at around 3 PM.
There are probably several thousand people stranded on roads in Suffolk County. It took my wife 4 hours to make her usual 30 minute trip from the south shore up to the north shore where we live…
70+ mph wind gusts reported in Cape Cod and Nantucket.

Oy, Alan. Gimme a thumbs up/down on this thing, is it the big boy or just another contender?
Drove up to visit my parents in Vermont this morning on a pre-planned trip. The only real impact here is some fantastic skiing this afternoon, and a pretty standard winter storm snowfall.
I understand the coast is getting it much worse, but literally every person I’ve spoken to here has been all “Yup, it’s snowing. Why are they making such a big deal out of this?” On the plus side, that probably means crews from this area will be able to help out neighboring regions when it comes time for repairs.
Hope those without power and those getting the worst of it stay warm and safe.

I saw snowfall numbers between 5 inches and 18 inches for NYC depending upon which path the storm took. As well they were talking about it stalling for 12 to 24 hours around the NYC to Boston area. Any update on this?
Went out and plowed, since I have a rather anemic electric snow blower that doesn’t deal well with snow over 12". Which it already was by 9pm when I went out. That came to an end when I ran over the extension cord at 11pm, which I had been studiously avoiding all night. Blown snow and additional fallen snow had hidden it.
I rather expect that we’ll see another 12" by morning, because it sure doesn’t seem like it’s letting up. Fortunately, I have a spare 100’ cord, but I didn’t want to chance doing it again so I’m saving that one for tomorrow. I was 90% done, if you don’t count the snow that had covered the work I’d already done.
I did a little shoveling, and my arms started aching almost immediately. My END is only about 3.

Suffolk County on Long Island has two feet+ of heavy wet snow. Possibly more where I am - its drifted a lot (entirely covering cars), so hard to tell.
