As of today Orlando has had its monthly rainfall already. It’s the dry season and its pouring all day here.
But it’s not snow.
It’s kind of foggy here in Los Angeles today. Boo.
Seriously, all y’all that have to deal with snow, you have my deepest sympathies. I left Philly to get away from that shit (and the sports fans).
We are getting 2-3 feet tomorrow.
I got a new snowblower.
Bring it on!
All things considered, snowblowers are basically just as much work as shoveling.
But WAY more fun.
Once again, here in the uplands we are expecting bupkis. You coastal types get all the howling blizzard fun.

I’m in Omaha now (really missing SoCal… sigh). I was braced for a horrid Winter, but instead it’s been one of the warmest ones on record. Today it’s in the mid-50’s, which is really rare in January. It’s just been an insanely nice Winter, with the exception of a lot of wind (which is common here in Omaha. We’re windier than Chicago). We’ve gone to the zoo a few times and have been walking through the state parks here almost every weekend.
Usually Omaha is an icebox from December until mid-March.

Our NYC office closed at 1:30 today, and not open tomorrow. I’m just hoping the powers stays up here across the GW bridge. Seems like things are in order in the city…

Curious as to when your NYC street was last plowed? NYC Plow Map.
Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster I gave up weekly travel years ago. For several years back in the early 2000s, I’d fly into either Newark or La Guardia pretty much every week. This sort of crazy weather system is a frequent flyer’s nightmare.

Well you finally got your way, you bastards! It will hit 32 degrees here tonight. And tomorrow night it should be in the 20s. With a high of 49 tomorrow. Who has been praying for this? You know who you are!
Luckily we expect the 80s by the weekend. If we live.
32 degrees? I DREAM of 32 degrees. I was out today, it was in the low 20’s, but wasn’t windy. I caught myself thinking “it’s pretty warm out today”. SIGH

Wind chill was 32 degrees up here.

BELOW ZERO.
Some of us at the office go for walks a couple times a day. Our conversation often starts like this, “Wow, it’s really cold out here.” “Yeah, well at least it’s not as cold as Boston or something.” “Yeah, good point.”
And then we move on to other things. Yesterday I even remembered to bring my light jacket for the walk. :)

I’m tired of it being below zero. This is bullshit.
There was an unfamiliar fiery object in the sky today. I believe it’s called a “star” or “sun” or something, I’m not sure of the mythology. It raised local temperatures to 34 for a while, before clouds hid it. You can still tell it’s there, but temperatures are back down to 27.
Meanwhile, snow banks are still in the 5’-6’ range. I’m a bit worried that the garage is going to collapse under the snow, but when I got up on the roof to clear it, it was much too slippery to do anything safely.

On the plus side if the snow is that deep you could basically step from the roof to the ground by building a ramp.
So the temperature got to around 13 below, with wind chills pushing close to 30 below in some areas. Yay Chicago? I don’t mind cold, but it’s to the point where even I think about going for a run and decide ‘nope’.
I guess that could work, if I approached it as a construction project or something. Simply trying to walk on the snow piled against the garage ends up with me sinking to the waist. I don’t reach the ground, but the snow banks are not compacted enough to support a person.

Ouch, I know your pain. I used to live in Thunder Bay, Ontario for a while. I didn’t own a car so had to spend a fair amount of time outside in the winter… that shit is cold, man. Hope things warm up soon.
