I love that film. 20:20 Look out below!
50:50 and Ikiru Spoilers!
I watched it and 50:50 around the same time and it was an interesting contrast, especially the way each of them deals with the moment the main character finds out they have cancer.
50:50 is filled with superficial drama about breaking up with your girlfriend, sudden and manipulative deaths of side characters. While Ikiru looks at so much more, a tongue in cheek mockery of bureaucracy, a haunting and melancholy look at the superficial joys of life and a heart breaking failure of a father and son relationship. In Ikiru, Kenji comes to a touching and poignant realisation about his life, while Adam in 50:50 done gets a new girlfriend.
I also love Ikiru’s third act funeral, and how it unravels the last months of Kenji’s life.
Anyway, brilliant film and great pick!

That keyboardist was adorable.
Correct! You’re a fast one Slumberland!

This is one of those movies like Groundhog Day, that i can watch over and over again…
Kinda silly, but a great movie for sure. I can watch that final performance at the battle of the bands over and over.

I never actually finished Beau Travail, but I distinctly remember those opening scenes wandering around some North African tourist district at night. Should probably try again.
I call this 20:20 “Man, woman, car, gun”
