That review is bonkers and doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Florida Man. I watched a few episodes of it this week, and it’s decent but yeah, maybe a little muddled.
Oh I loved House. But as cantankerous and difficult as his character was in that, he wasn’t the same kind of bad guy.
I watched a few episodes of that back when, and again, clueless over-privileged twit isn’t the same kind of bad guy. :-)
Plus that way Stephen Fry’s Jeeves could save his bacon every episode.
What streaming service is that on?
ITV’s, I imagine. Probably Britbox in the US

You should watch The Guard on Netflix with Brendan Gleason
Saw three episodes and like it. It is lighthearted and quite fun. Ex-cop ex-gambler is working off his debts to a wannabee crime boss son of a dead actual crime boss and is sent to Florida to find his girlfriend, some old spanish gold gets involved and hijinks ensue.
Just started watching s2 of Shadow and Bone. Looks good after 1.5 episodes, but the audio/ dialog/ accents/ whispers has made the dialog very difficult to follow at times.
My ears being clogged by allergies isn’t helpingeither…
I liked Shadow and Bone for the most part, but the magic stuff was pretty cheesy. I haven’t been able to summon the enthusiasm to watch season 2.
I like season 2 a bit more than season 1 (though I am still making my way through season 2, which may indicate something.)
There is a small Shadow and Bone thread here.
I enjoyed S2 but it does cram a lot into the season. And towards the end some of the lack of strong funding shows. But the cast and designs are mostly entertaining and I enjoyed it more than say Wheel of Time even if I think that had more money behind it and a stronger story.
So is there likely to be a season 3?
So one of things that bugged me is the magic people can do very focused things, like make the wind blow to fill the sails of a ship or in a more concentrated form knock back an individual. Why not give them a gun too so they can put a bullet in someone after they knock them back! But no, they are magical, so they win or lose with their very singular ability.
So that, and just how cheesy the special effects seemed to be.
Finished Florida Man. Really liked it overall. Very lighhearted with few surprisingly well executed serious/emotional scenes. I read some complaints about Edgar Ramirez’s accent but meh who cares, he’s great.
I finished Beef and started a rewatch with my wife. It’s really bold and interesting and I kinda loved it.
I’ve only seen one episode and thought it so-so, but I did wonder about the accent. His dad didn’t have one. I guess his mom was Cuban? Still, growing up in Florida I’d think he would have shed it. Was there a reason for the accent? The guy’s an actor. Look at all the British actors who do American accents.
I don’t remember if it was explained in the story, probably not. Guy is venezuelan so I guess that’s just how he speaks. I like it tbh.

Taylor Tomlinson’s Look at You is brilliant, personal standup. Loved it.
I think it resonated in part because she’s a lot like the people I love to hang out with in the improv/comedy community. “Oh, wow, you are so fun and creative and I love spending time with you.” “Oh, wow, you are fun and creative because you have gone through some shit and that’s how you’re dealing with it.”
Second that. Didn’t really think I’d like her the first time I watched one of her shows, but she’s awesome.
This is how I felt after the first two. But I also felt this anxiety in the pit of my stomach at all these horrible decisions being made by these two characters. But I kept wanting to see what happens next despite the show making me deeply anxious. Ugh.
3rd episode is awesome by the way. I know shit will probably go sideways again really fast, but I needed the show to calm down so I could calm down.
Thanks for the tip. It is good, but episode 9 and its Bjork fueled ending is 10/10
…and so is the finale
Beef ended up being wonderful, yeah. I just finished it this morning as well. Great show.
I think my favorite episode is the one that ends in the basketball game. The one right before the time jump.
