In contrast, I’m about 20 minutes from finishing season 3 (my morning ferry ride cut me short) and I’m not going to lie I’ve been confused by a lot, I’m still enjoying the season and the finale of the show so far.
Holy Shit the finale of season 2 of Babylon Berlin just floored me. Goddamn. I’m legitimately shook.

I managed 20 minutes before turning it off. Not for me, I guess.
My wife loves it, but it is a yawner for me. VERY artificial feeling.
We watched the new Belgian (Flemish) series The Twelve last week and really got into it. Obviously it is a courtroom drama portraying the trial of a woman accused of two homicides: a friend she allegedly killed 20 years before, and her own child she has allegedly killed now. The show focuses on members of the jury and the witnesses in their personal lives, intercut with scenes from the trial. The defendant is basically a cipher, mostly catatonic and volunteering very little information except for denials if guilt and negations of the testimony of others. You start not knowing anything that happened and end up knowing the basic truth and along the way learn about the characters as they deal with their own dark struggles.
It is very good, with realistic and quirky characters and a good, tense mystery to be solved. And seeing the Belgian court system depicted was really interesting as well.
Highly recommended.
Because I obsessively read/watch anything having to do with New York’s “Five Families”, I’ll be checking out Fear City. Bonus is footage of Giulliani when he was still sane.
After watching Travelers and Dark I am now doing another netflix time travel show, Timeless.
Man, the timeywimeyness of this one is just crazy nonsense, but I kinda love it anyway. Goran Visnjic is so good, I kinda wish the show was about him first and foremost.
I loved the first season of this. Is it worth going back for the remaining seasons?
I thought Travelers was fantastic and had a satisfying ending, which was rare before Netflix’s three season rule of thumb became widely known.
Travelers definitely worth watching. A rare show that goes places you don’t expect it to.
I still don’t understand what you guys see in that show.

I think Travelers was really good. It was a very character based take on time travel, and went for heavy realism – not in the sci-fi sense, but in the sense of ‘how would a character realistically react and develop under these circumstances’. Unfortunately, when Netflix picked up the show, they weren’t committed to keep it going long enough to resolve everything in a natural way. Instead, half the last season has the same normal pace of development, and the other half rushes to tie things up in what I find to be an unsatisfying way.
In the first season that I watched, it did catch me off guard a bit. There’s all these big heavy IMPORTANT tasks that have to be done, but the show is instead concentrating on what it’s like to be an older responsible man in a teenager’s body who has important things to do, but to also not freak out his parents. Very heavily character-centric, which felt at odds with the premise of the show, which seemed to be more about big picture time travel stuff. It did make it hard to watch at times, but once I actually watched it, it felt rewarding. Hard to digest, but nutritious.

I enjoyed Timeless, but I’m a sucker for all time travel stuff. When you are done with it, I recommend checking out 12 Monkeys (the TV series, not the movie). Don’t think it’s on Netflix, might be on amazon prime.
I keep forgetting about that one. It’s on Hulu in the U.S.
I enjoyed it all and found it worthwhile. I would rate Dark higher though.
I have seen 12 Monkeys even before my current time travel binge :)
Also liked it - and loved the Gaius Baltar episodes - although it did not surpass the movie.

The TV show (12 Monkeys) made me mad because it basically had nothing to do with the movie except the name. The entire premise of time travel is basically the exact opposite in the show from what it is in the movie.
Oh nice. This makes me more likely to watch it. The movie’s brand of time travel fatalism is my least favorite form of time travel stories.
It has more in common than just the name, but it’s taking a very different approach, and I appreciate that. 12 Monkeys is one of the most perfect movies I’ve ever seen. Trying to slavishly replicate it in a much longer TV show with (although fine) lesser actors and direction would have been a mistake.

Sorry, should have been clear, I realize my anger is irrational. But there it is.
