Looking very Grapes of Wrath -ish.
Uh-oh - I don’t want a loss.
The sixty:

Hints - this is a classic movie, of the comedy genre (some might limit that to “satire”). The 40 frame features the male and female leads of this film.
Gordon Cameron, Sullivan’s Travels is correct, sir!
The last frame:

It seems to be that older films seem to be more difficult to guess as a) they are simply less well known but maybe more importantly b) their generally more languid pace (and editing style) leads to frames that reveal less (or even mislead, as in this case perhaps) than their modern counterparts.
Sullivan’s Travels?
Gotta be. Though it never occurred to me how much Joel McCrea looks like Kenneth Branagh.
My first thought was William H. Macy, but I can see Branagh now that you mention it.
Ok, try to get it before the 60, at which point it becomes trivial.

King Kong? The 1976 version of course.
Do we get any Charles Grodin in any of these frames?
-xtien
Christien gets it. It is King Kong '76. No Grodin, but a giant ape paw.
I’m rather fond of the 100.
40:
60:
80:
100:
120:
I love that 20:20. It’s so clearly Jeff Bridges. Standing there like a younger version of The Dude with his arm on his hip. Even if I hadn’t recognized Jessica Lange, he’s just so The Dude!
-xtien
“I’m Dwan. D-w-a-n…that’s my name.”
I agree. It’s weirdly evocative (pre-evocative? prevocative?) of the prow silliness in Titanic, if you’ll forgive me.
-xtien
That 80 and 100 together is hilarious.
I don’t think it’s Last Days, but anyway, I’ll guess Last Days.
Even if I hadn’t recognized Jessica Lange, he’s just so The Dude!
“C’mon, man! You can’t just attack the World Trade Center! This aggression will not stand, man!”
Talk about your weird post-9/11 resonances:

I’m not sure what that is, so it’s not that. I think Tom told me to watch it. Is that the Kurt Cobain movie?
-xtien
Too soon! And you made me laugh.
-xtien
Yeah, it’s the Cobain one by Gus Van Sant. It was halfway incomprehensible to me (I think that movie invented mumblecore), but on the upside, it contains one of my favorite shots in recent cinema.
Whoa. What? Did you write about that on Picture’s Up? If not, will you provide the image?
