Why would Boeing be trusted ?

Boeing could absolutely be trusted in this situation. I’d bet a 737 MAX on it.

Perhaps Boeing could upgrade Ukrainian Airlines to a “We Won’t Tamper With The Data” Add On with the Platinum “Independent Swiss investigator” option.

You don’t need to give the data to them ALONE, but i think it’s pretty standard for the guys who made a plane to get the telemetry from the aircraft in a crash, so they can identify engineering failures.

Again, you can give it to other folks too, but Iran didn’t want to let anyone else see that data.

Yeah, I’m guessing they blew it up in a terrible accident. Just one small sad example of how these sorts of “games” can get out of hand and have unanticipated consequences.

The plane was actually delayed on the ground for an hour due to the missile launches.

Now that is damning. Not in the “direct evidence” sense, but in the “I can see a twitchy radar tech doing this according to SOP and flawed information” way. Radar/AA command distrubutes daily flight takeoff schedule. Plane gets delayed. Schedule never updated. Janky ass AA tech goes “contact! last flight in that area went out hours ago!”. And some NCO gives the fire command. Or janky ass operator does it himself. "

There would be at least a dozen Congressional investigations underway already if President Hillary had been at the helm for this. “Blood on her hands” screams the Fox News headline.

Probably, but it would be rather unfair.

non-graphic, but beware the followup videos

Trump is the luckiest man alive. Not only does the Iranian missile strike not kill or even wound anyone. (Not entirely surprising given the amount of time we had for a warning). But then some idiot Iranian SAM missile operator shoots down a civilian airline, and to top of it, the plane was filled with Canadians. Canadians are like the Koala and Panda Bears of country, everybody likes them.

Iran purposely avoided hitting people by most accounts.

A lot of experts doubt that Iran ballistic missiles are that accurate. For troops in bunker 1,000KG warhead (pretty typical for the Fateh missiles) would need to get within 20 meters or so to have good chance of causing casualties. The best case accuracy is 20 meters, meaning that even if they knew where the troops were they’d have only a 50/50 shot of getting close enough. If the actual accuracy is 100 to 200 meters than even with a dozen missiles they’d have a slim chance of hurting anyone.

Did you not see the bullseye hit on the hangar upthread? Looked pretty accurate to me.

Hard to tell if that was intentional or accidental, though. Fire enough missiles at something, one is likely to land smack dab on something.

Look closer. It’s a cluster of five buildings. The missile hit dead center, along both X and Y.

Hangers are huge building typically 100-200 meters long and 50+ meters wide although those look smaller maybe for helicopter. They are made of lightweight material. If the accuracy is say 100 meter than odds are excellent you’ll hit such a large target, especially when you have cluster of 5 packed tightly together. Even if the accuracy is 200 meter you’d have 50/50 chance of hitting it. Troops in an underground bunker or even just in slit trenches are far harder to kill.

Initially, the Iranian claimed they had killed dozens of US troops, if they were not trying to cause casualties why claim credit?

As one of my favorite saying goes. “The unaimed arrow never misses”. It is certainly easier to claim after the fact that you were trying to avoid casualties. Trump isn’t the only government that lies.

None of which is my main point. Trump is so damn lucky. There is a poker saying, “better lucky than good.”

As a sop to the people?
