Megabumtopia One - 1.8M all-residential city on the test server (NOT SANDBOX MODE). The RCI is not the only thing broken in their model.

Cheeta speed is apparently live on the TEST box along with some of the “2.0” fixes" of which they really haven’t said what these “fixes” are.

I love one of the quotes:

They didnt fix crap, they just turned on something that worked fine already, Who gives a crap about Cheetah speed, when everything is broken… Great now my city can turn to shiiiit faster.

Also new bugs have been found, lovely… It would seem putting down a park and then deleting the park makes the game think the park is still there, but sadly sims can never get to it. Similar to how my current city still thinks my first ambulance is on the road and won’t send out any more, even though I deleted that clinic.

And if you have more than 1 trade depot, and are importing a certain good , say Alloys, there is a bug that the global delivery trucks bringing in that resource will charge you double for delivering another load in the same hour, or at least thats what I think he was saying in the forum post.

Origin Settings:

Is there a way to NOT allow it to load itself on startup? I keep looking through the settings but do not see a switch anywhere.

It’s the drm for the game it has to load.

I understand it has to load but can that be set to only occur when I play? I do NOT want it to load every time I boot my computer.

I’d imagine you can turn off the auto-load at startup using some sort of option inside Origin. Otherwise you should be able to do so yourself using msconfig.

Its under options…or “indstillinger” if you have the danish version as I do. First tab, scroll down to the bottom and select origin on windows startup or not.

Edit: removed an “Eh” since I hate those myself.

That’s a pretty devastating indictment of just what a mess this game truly is.

My goodness what a mess. If a city can get to 1.8m with no water, power, sewer, garbage, fire or police and there remains massive demand, that shows that something is fundamentally incorrect within the assumptions coded in the engine.

Thanks - my mistake was that I did not realize that I could scroll down in the settings window so I did not see the startup check box (duh on me).

Starting to think they intentionally released it with broken servers so that it would take longer for people to discover how deeply broken the game is. The early post-release reviews and impressions seemed to be of a good game with broken infrastructure. People are willing to buy a game with broken servers if the game is good, and the servers are likely to be improved. Consider:

Broken servers, broken game: first wave of buyers buy based on pre-release reviews and hype, second wave hold off after hearing the servers are questionable, but many of them buy when reassured that the underlying game is good.

Working servers, broken game: first wave of buyers buy based on pre-release reviews and hype, second wave stay the hell away after hearing that the game is deeply broken.

There was an announcement back on 3/28, I just saw it now…

SimCity Update from Senior Producer Kip Katsarelis

Hi everyone I wanted to give you a quick update about the state of SimCity and what the development team here at Maxis has been focused on in the last week. The good news is that we are seeing so many of you playing the game. Mayors have spent more than 33 centuries worth of time playing the game and enough road has been laid to circumnavigate the earth over 5000 times. Each day, we have more than three quarters of a million active cities being played.

We’ve been heads down addressing the key issues we’re seeing reported from our community. This includes city rollbacks, lost progress, and the return of features like Cheetah Speed and Leaderboards. Like you, we want all of these resolved ASAP, which is why they are the top priorities in our studio. Matter of fact, we have all of these in a QA environment, giving them a thorough test before we release them back to you, the fans.

On top of this, we’re also working on a number of bug fixes and other overall improvements that we’re planning to include in future Updates. Just last week we released two Updates 1.7 and 1.8, which included traffic fixes and other general improvements. For the future, in Update 2.0, we’ll be addressing the Recycling Center bug, fixing the fire engine clumping, improving the efficiency of Street Cars, and increasing the radius of river water. We’re also fixing the tuning on Casinos and are making them more profitable. These are just a handful of the substantial changes coming in Update 2.0.

Keep in mind, if you don’t see a particular fix present in an Update, this doesn’t mean we’re not working on it, or we’re not aware of it. Our team is constantly getting reports about the top issues being raised and this is helping us prioritize what we need to address. There are some issues that are more challenging and will take more time. If you have feedback, please visit our forums. In the meantime, we’ll continue to address the top issues in our updates. We’ll keep working while you’re playing.

Thanks for sticking with us. We hope this gives you a better idea of what we’ve been working on. Now back to work!

There is just so much broken, its depressing.

Heh, that U-turn at the end. He has a similar video where he puts a tourism attraction at the end of the road, forcing all of the traffic to drive up this enormous, winding roller coaster road to get to their entertainment. Best city ever!

I now have an entire playlist of SimCity videos. I know it’s buggy, but it bugs out in the funniest ways.

I have to say that he makes doodling with curved roads over water look a lot easier than it is. I also wonder whether he was playing a modded version because I hit an invisible wall that isn’t shown in the second video (Straussburg Isles). Maybe the behavior was changed in a recent patch.

At least now, your sims will be greener while stuck in traffic.

“Hey guys, our game is still broke but feel free to add some in game advertising while you wait for us to fix it.”

  1. Is there additional gameplay added?
Plopping down the Nissan LEAF® Charging Station will add happiness to nearby buildings. Adding the Charging Station will not take power, water or workers away from your city. Zoom in to the streets of cities and players will start seeing a percentage of their Sims from all wealth classes driving the electric vehicles. The Charging Station produces no garbage or sewage as well making it pollution free.

Isn’t all of this useless given the 1.8million pop city posted above?

As Tom said on the front page, it’s just a (car) park skin. Parks add happiness, parks don’t pollute or produce garbage/sewage, and parks don’t take power, water, or workers.

Do remember that EA/Maxis believe that they have already fixed “most” of the issues, so from their perspective it’s merely good PR to be offering free content to all their adoring “fans”.

Much like the Nissan Leaf, which also doesn’t take power I guess. Perhaps in EA’s world it has a Mr. Fusion and can run off of bullshit.

I’m waiting for them to reskin a waste disposal facility as a Taco Bell.
