At least it’s free. Can you imagine if EA charged for it?

Some Good News! The new sim city IS BETTER at doing traffic than the old classic Sim City 2000:

Yes I can. Moar bitchin’ on this thread :)

I see Reddit has already burned their Nissan Leaf’s down in disgust:

“I’m a leaf on the wind…”

Ha! Yeah, not happening. I instantly turned off that spiderman game when I saw the first real billboard. I’m so done with EA.

Advertising is weird. There are a number of cases where I could see it adding to the immersion in a game, but even when they pick the right places to add it they usually do it in such a bad way that it still grates against my sensibilities and makes me hate it. The thing I usually see is some company buys some ad placement on billboards in a game but then the game makes almost every billboard feature the same company or even the same ad. Immersion breaking crap.

Yeah that would be a problem. However if done right, advertising could really enhance a game like this. Should have a pool of like 100 “fake” advertisers and then replace them with real ones as they get them.

If they had done that subtly and not frigging announced it, we might have not even consciously noticed it. Isn’t that marketings holy grail, subliminal advertising?

In the facebook version of the game they add “challenges” based on BMW car factories and stuff like that.

Imagine if Dragon Age 3 have “disney sponsored” or “Fox News” sponsored quests. In this terrible future dystopia of gaming, you can’t escape spam playing games, because the game turn into spam itself.

This is unfair, from the point of view of the players, because we pay for a game. We don’t pay for a platform to receive spam. Generally spam is paid by the spammer. The reason email spam is illegal in most developed countries, is because you pay for your inbox, so you can actually be paying the expenses to have somebody develop unwanted ads to you. This is exactly the same thing. We pay for the servers, we pay for the development cost, we pay for the marketing. and now we have these things we paid for get used to send spam our way. The logic by why email spam is illegal can be applied here.

You can have a service that is free and is paid by spam, like most TV channels. But having a system where people pay for the service, and on top of it you get ads is making people paying for the ads, and that a scam. People pay for a service, not to receive spam, receiving spam is not a service (even if you think your information about Viagra pills is very informative and interesting for middle age guys).

Whats next? “Don’t get ads DLC”. Pay a ransom so you do not get ads in Sim City?

Probably exactly the opposite.

Redeem content for The Sims Social? Didn’t that just get shut down?! Ha!

Looks like the update I’ve been waiting for is nearly upon us. SimCity 2.0 update drops next week, and it looks like it’s going to fix/address a LOT of issues, all of mine at the least.

Finally, I’ll get my $40 worth!

Transit: Street Cars and Buses go to high volume stops first.

Hopefully not all of them to the same place.

Larger map sizes?

NOPE , not fixed… :p

This is fair, especially since now I’ve been playing a lot of Anno 1404 - talk about freaking map sizes! Still, a lot of (not all) my personal issues are being addressed, so while it’s not the end of the road, it feels like a step in the right direction.

Yeah I hope it happens eventually, I just hate that all my cities are filled from edge to edge and it just looks so fake.

It bothers me more now than the horrible traffic stuff.

It’s like they looked at Anno and decided that their interdependent cities would be a great addition to SimCity but then they implemented it in the most half-baked, annoying way possible (loading screens? wtf?) And the price of this feature? Tiny cities with artificial borders that we bump up against at every turn.

Please, just give me an option to select that says THIS MAY NUKE YOUR PC and allow me to build real cities. Either that or swap eras and rebrand the game Sim Village, because I could dig a village sim. It’s all about managing expectations.
