That is a beautiful little Village Lordkosc :)

You are correct Tom, although it is she not he. I understand the anger and share it, but I know business well enough that it is rare that a single individual or even a handful of individuals could or should take blame for something like this. This looks like a group mistake to me, in process, thinking, top to bottom.

Noob question but how do i get to extract ore and oil, is there a step when it becomes possible?
The requirement should be on the tooltip for the buildings. I think you need to have 7 industrial buildings? Also, note that the mining buildings are on their own separate tab, with stuff like casinos and trade depots.

Some great new information straight from a dev I’m chatting with.
The education bug occurs because a High School in a border town receives the kids and then never sends them home. So those tokens are gone for good. The good news is there’s a work around for new regions/cities. The bug can be avoided in new regions by not building a High School in a sister city… And the more interesting thing is once you have a college you don’t need the Elementary School, High School, NOR school bus stops. Some of you may have known that, I didn’t.
So, go from Elementary School straight to college, and then bulldoze your elementary school (and it’s school bus stops if you feel the need to cleanup).
Wow, that does look tiny.

Yeah nothing messed up with this work around or this approach to education in a sim game. I certainly didn’t know that was how it was supposed to work, but i did observe that was how it seemed to pan out once you added one. Must be another one of those fancy features I thought was a bug.

Every time I read more about the game I wonder if I will be sorry that I returned it. So far no regrets.

Why would you be sorry? You can always buy it again at a lower price. Win win!

Is it safe to say this is a bigger disaster than Elemental? Hell, in terms of scope and the number of people affected I think SimCity has to be in its own league.
Seriously, the more I read about the game the more irritated I become. Perhaps I should stop clicking on this thread.

It has to be. I didn’t play the first Elemental, but I can’t imagine it being any worse than this.

Well, I disagree – I think Elemental is/was far worse. I’ve had a lot of fun with SimCity. I do wish the cities were larger, but I still had plenty of fun learning to build a small city.
It’s a difference in scale. Elemental was a cock-up, but it didn’t make international mainstream news. Of course, Elemental was a niche title from a much smaller company and they took steps to rectify the matter by giving away free upgrades to Fallen Enchantress and, if you got screwed early enough, Legendary Heroes as well.

I consider Elemental’s launch worse, not by scale, clearly Sim City sold more, but having features on the retail box that were not in the game for months and not in the successor at all plus this whole do right by your customer but tell them f off approach. You can see right through EA’s PR spiel at least.

Wait, how is this a good thing? I thought a real city needs to cater to all education ages?
In a general simulation sense, it isn’t a good thing. However, given the pathetically small size of the city plots, it becomes almost a necessary thing. You could crap up a lot of your meager land with an Elementary School, High School and University (or even Community College) all in the same town.
Yet another example of a poor simulation due to seemingly arbitrary constraints.
This - I’m waiting for it to fall to a throw-away price, by which time I hope it would be fully fixed and not long abandoned by EA out of disinterest, and that the servers are still on.

Sim City is missing features on such a broad scale. When a game is supposed to be a simulation and there doesn’t seem to be much logic in how it behaves (like the college-elementary school thing being discussed here) it is beyond missing a feature. Maybe the first Elemental was such utter crap on the same scale as Sim City - I don’t know. If it was I’m glad I bypassed it.

Sim City is not the simulation that it was sold as; that is for certain. There are a lot of pretty pictures trying to cover up fundamental problems with the game, but it’s just a different kind of mess than the early days of the Elemental release. Personally, I don’t think EA can fix the problems even if they wanted to.
