I’m getting a 404 on that link. I wonder if it was a mistake, a leak, or gasp EA coming to their senses.

Arggh! Looks awesome but…
I’ve been trying to support this title despite my irritations with it. And they’re coming out with this?! The game has a terrible time with region to region already with broken mass transit. Worse - the single highway entrance into zones is still a nightmare because of all the problems. While the theme park stuff looks gorgeous, Maxis has GOT to get their proprieties right. Putting out DLC when the game is still so messed up should not be on the calendar.

That theme park would take up half the city, and just looking at it in these screenshots, it doesnt look like the right scale either, that or those rides each holds hundreds and hundreds of people. WHatever … I uninstalled that game, if I want to play with a theme park, Rollercoaster tycoon 3 was a marvelous little game IMHO

GMG link is dead , maybe they put that page up too early ?

OK got some information for you all you won’t find in the strategy guides or anywhere else. Took me a while to figure it out.

Nuclear Plant Water usage:
Fast Neutron -150
Gen II - 120
Gen I - 90

Dirty Coal – $1,725 / 300 MW = $5.75
Clean Coal – $2,425 / 300 MW = $8.08
Dirty Oil – $3,125/– 600 MW = $5.20
Clean Oil – $5,280 / 600 MW = $8.80
Nuclear – $3,300 / 600 MW = $5.50
Solar – $4,200 / 390 MW = $10.77
Wind - $1,400 / 204 MW = $6.82 18 mph

Coal Mine - 5 gallons of water per shaft
Add-ons provide no extra jobs
Iron Mine – same as Coal
Oil – no water
Smelting Plant uses 30 gallons, and 1 extra gallon per module

Dimensions below are for fully upgraded building footprints denoted by tall tree rows. Using 1 Tall Tree Row Wide x 1 Tall Tree Row High, is the exact dimension for a high density building. So it is a great unit of measurement as listed below:

Recycling Plant = 4 tree rows x 2 tree rows
Garbage = 3 x 1½
Water & Sewage = 5½ x 1
Hospital = 3½ x 1
Police = 2 x 1½
Fire = 4 x 1
Trade Port = 4 x 2

Wait, what? They have “clean coal”… haha.

Nice info jpinard.

Our government has been talking about clean coal in Australia for a few years. I mean, comparatively I’m not sure how much cleaner it is than other country’s coal, but we apparently have it, so we must be better off than the rest of you polluting suckers. Right??!

Interesting, you are saying that the coal in Australia actually burns cleaner than American coal. Here, clean coal means doing some form of treatment on the products of coal combustion, such as caustic scrubbing or carbon dioxide sequestration.

It’s because of where Australia is on the planet. It falls down off-planet instead of rising up into the clouds.

Yeah, kind of. There are different types of coal and different gradings of those coal types . Certain gradings are more desired as power plant fuel as they are more energy dense and do burn cleaner. Australia has large reserves of well graded coal which we export a lot of (largest coal global coal exporter).

I was being a bit facetious though, our government talks about ‘clean coal’ when they really mean ‘clean coal technology’, as you alluded to.

Simcity is getting updated to 4.0 tomorrow (is it me or is going up by whole increments for updates a little weird/unusual?):

Update 4.0 Notes

• New: SimCity Launch Park, an exclusive new park just for our dedicated fans who were early adopters.
• New: Region: Edgewater Bay. Seven city sites in one cluster around a beautiful bay with one great work site.
• New: Your current server will now be shown in the options menu.
• New: More detailed rollover information on buildings telling player’s if their Sims received happiness from a park or from shopping. Previous to this fix, this information was generic.
• Re-Enabled Feature: Global Market prices now dynamically change during gameplay.
• Re-Enabled Feature: Leaderboards are will be active on EU West 3, Pacific 1 and Pacific 2 at the release. We will enable them on additional servers throughout the day.
• Re-Enabled Feature: Region filters are now enabled on all SimCity servers. Players will be able to search for open games by Map Name, Sandbox Mode, and Abandoned Cities.

• Rain Clouds: Fixed an issue where some cities would not have rain clouds to replenish their water table. If you had a city with this issue, you will start seeing clouds again within a game day.
• Fire: Improved response time of fire trucks to fires. Improved the time it takes for a fire signal to reach a fire station.
• Mission updates: Tuned Metals HQ and Community College missions. These were appearing too early, making them difficult to complete. They now appear later in a city’s development.
• Solar Farm Great Work: Reduced fire risk at the Solar Farm Great work. Local fire engines were spending too much time at the Solar Farm.
• Messaging: Improved pre-requisite messaging for Trade Port, Casinos, Smelting Factory and Oil Refinery. It should be clearer on how to unlock these buildings.
• Graphics: Fix for flickering low wealth buildings on NVIDIA graphics cards.
• Education: Fix for an issue some cities experienced where commuting students did not return from a neighbor’s city. This was causing a problem where students would disappear from a city in some cases.
• Tuning: Sims will lose a small amount of happiness if they don’t have a place to shop. Cities without places to shop will see complaints and feel the effect of unhappy Sims. This will emphasize the importance of commercial zones.

Holy Re-enabled features Batman! So, thoughts?

Seems like a good patch to me. The re-enabled features are going a long way to getting the game back to ‘version 1.0’. I am specially interested in the new map, 7 cities in one hub is really big to me, I hate on large maps you cant trade with players on other circuits. Would like to get a QT3 game on the new map going. Speaking of which, y’all should get active on jpiniards latest QT3 map again! Warts and all, its still a game I enjoy getting into every day or so and keep building up the city.

They are almost getting to a stable game that makes some kind of sense. Took way longer than I hoped though, and they aren’t quite there yet.

Ok, I dont know how to say this without spilling potentially confidential info… let me just say this is not the patch we want to make a brand new region for… the next patch after this could be it. Since this is mostly a server patch and doesn’t fix traffic, disappearing recycling trucks, disappearing gift money, disappearing trade port trucks, and Great Projects bugs which are all current and quite serious issues (identified)… and most likely solved now…the next patch could be the one that makes this game truly functional. In the meantime lets continue with “QT3 Gluttons for Punishment” as at least there we don’t have so many broken and permanently lost sims. Yes, all previous maps before the v3.0 patches have Sims gone for good that are not able to be recovered back to normal. Outside of keeping them for the visual layouts, the other QT3 regions (Blue, Black, Red) should just be abandoned as they are permanently gimped.

Aren’t those Asian players? My experience is that if the symbols in a leaderboard aren’t displaying correctly, it’s someone in Japan.

Oops I edited my post and accidentally deleted that. Actually normally, I’d assume that, but the first week the game was going there were plenty of South Korean, Japanese, and Chinese names that displayed perfectly. But considering how vast the number of characters in their languages are you could be right. But I do think there are plenty of Origin players who think it’s cool/funny to find glitches in the client that makes their ID unintelligible.

I think you are referring Kanji, which are used in Japanese and Chinese languages. I thought I had seen those too, not broken down to symbols. I don’t recall seeing the Korean alphabet though.

From reddit, pics of the new DLC in the upcoming patch. Lots of them are of the amusement park stuff. Also I see a church!

May 28th, the Amusement Park dlc will go up for sale on Origin!

Sorry, but this is too epic not to post. This is a live performance of the SimCity 4 song, By the Bay. Does that sound awesome, or what?
