That was neat.

Best game soundtrack in the history of the universe.

Don’t worry, the game is saved! EA is releasing Blimp DLC and it only costs $10.

“Hindenburg” is one way to describe SimCity, I guess…

Yeah, but we already bought that.

People still have this installed?

\o/ McDonalds!

Hard disk space isn’t a premium these days. It’s there, technically, but every time I load up the launcher to play it I realize I have two dozen other games I’d rather be playing.

I guess more bad news for SimCity:

Former SimCity Creative Directer Ocean Quigley, Gameplay Lead Dan Moskowitz, and Lead Architect Andrew Willmott have left EA to form an indie studio, Jellygrade, calling themselves “recovering ex-AAA game developers.” The trio is now working on “a simulation about the dawn of life on earth; about lava, water, rock and the emergence of the first primordial creatures,” according to a tweet from Quigley.

Well, the last time a bunch of Maxis employees got together to make a game about the origins of life and primordial words, that turned out super well!

Normally I’d think EA & suits were to blame for all this, but Ocean was overtly egotistical and didn’t seem to care what any players had to say about the Simcity V direction (along with a few others on the team). Worse he lied marketing the thing. So it’s very hard to know if this will be a great game by allowing them full creative freedom they may not have had before, and will come up with something wonderful, or if it will be more of the same fail. These people who make a giant mess out of beloved franchises then bail out as soon as they can… it doesn’t seem right at all.

What game was that?

Spore?

I can’t see myself running out to buy the next Ocean Quigley game.

I’d like to see the Royal Couple name their new heir to the throne Ocean. That’d be cool.

Well, it won’t happen now. It’s apparently Prince George

SimCity sold 2 million units. Frank Gibeau says it was a success.

GamesBeat: What did you take away from the server problems that hurt the launch of SimCity?

Gibeau: In retrospect, our biggest takeaway is that we are lucky that SimCity has an enormous number of loyal fans. That first week after launch was really rough — an experience nobody wants to live through again.

Since then, we’ve sold more than 2 million units, and the number of people logging in and playing is holding steady. SimCity is a success. However, underestimating demand in the first month was a major miss. We hope that the game and the service we’ve provided since then meets the fans’ high standards.

Every single moment since launch has been “really rough,” and everytime I see their reps try to weasel around that fact, I want to throttle a kitten.

Isn’t 2 million a fail by AAA standards?

That guy is such a tool. Simcity is still not a full game/creative experience and won’t be until patch 7 hits. As Armando said, every week has been “rough”, not just the launch week. This just confirms what I’ve thought about Gibeau for a long time… he’s behind some of the worst decisions at EA, takes credit where none is due, and ignores reality.
