Seattle only goes after Leinart if Jeremy Bates takes another job and Pete Carroll stops being an egotistical dick and apologizes to Norm Chow, who tired of looking bad coaching a mediocre ucla offense takes his act to the NFL for one last go around with Pete.

In other words I don’t think it will happen.

A couple of interesting things happening in the NFL today:

  1. Lots of reports that the Titans and Redskins are talking about a trade that would send Haynesworth back to Nashville. Maybe Robert knows something, because on the face of it this seems like it woudn’t make any sense for the Titans to take him back, especially since Fisher has been less then glowing in his comments about the guy.

  2. Parcells has ceded some of his power to the Dolphins GM, reducing his role to “consultant” apparently. I read an interesting article recently that pointed out that while the Dolphins have improved under Parcells overall leadership, there have been some moves that were really suspect, such as using a second round pick on Pat White, recently cut by team after a single season.

The sudden retirement of Alex Gibbs continues to make news in Seattle (since it’s not like the team is likely to be good this year.) This articlekind of breaks down the rumors that are floating around. Basically, Seattle kept acquiring offensive linemen, not all of whom fit Gibbs preferred style. In particular, Seattle added tackles Tyler Polumbus and Stacy Andrews in the last week or so and offensive guard Ben Hamilton, who was supposedly going to anchor the left side of the line with Okung, was somewhat mysteriously demoted after the second preseason game. Basically, it appears as if maybe Gibbs idea of what was best and what Carroll/Schneider wanted weren’t the same thing. As the article notes, though, Carroll’s OL line coach from the last several years at USC was willing to jump from the UFL, so at least from that standpoint its not like they are breaking in a totally new coach.

The Patriots defense is a slap-dick team. I think that’s what he was implying. And you know what? He’s right.

Another useful link, particularly for folks like me who have moved away from the hometown - a link showing which game local stations have picked up.

Yay! The Raider game will be on in LA!

The generally fun to read Michael Silver of Yahoo has a surprisingly sober look at the upcoming labor issues sure to dominant things after this season in the NFL.

I for one welcome the New England Colonials.

Don’t forget the Seattle Bing!

Something to watch: Tom Brady in two-car accident this morning. Refused medical treatment, said to be “pretty banged up.”

An Audi, Tom, really?

That story is a bit odd. It happened at 6:15am and Brady and an unidentified passenger walked away from it and refused treatment. The passenger isn’t identified as a male or female.

Are you suggesting it could be another woman or – gasp! – the Bengals defensive coordinator?

It was Ulf Samuelsson.

Heh. It struck me as odd that the passenger wasn’t identified by gender. And now after looking at a few other stories elsewhere, there’s no mention of a passenger. Maybe the story linked to is wrong.

So Tim Tebow’s uniform has sold the most in the NFL offseason. I was very surprised to see that Donovan McNabb’s Redskin uniform was second, until I realized he plays in Chocolate City :)

I’m weirdly pumped about the Lions this year. I don’t expect them to win more than four or five games, but I think they’re going to be fun to watch. It’s nice to see the building blocks of a legitimate team finally emerging here after the 8 year Millenpocalypse.

ROAR!

Yeah, it’s interesting to see that it looks like the Lions and the Raiders may have both turned the corner to at least not completely suck.

The real problem the Lions have, though, is that they’re in the same division as the Bears, Vikings and Packers.

Indeed. It’s certainly a gauntlet to have to get through, especially having to play all those teams once on the road. But if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. I’d put the Packers among the class of the NFC for sure.

The Bears suck and the Vikings are primed for a letdown. How is that a gauntlet?
