He was their special teams coach in 2008 and 2009. He was hired by Sporano. They’ve had plenty of opportunity to go another way if they didn’t think he was doing the job. A guy doesn’t all of a sudden forget how to coach. There’s only so much that can be done if the players on special teams aren’t up to the job. It’s easy to fire the special teams coach for this, but that doesn’t mean that it will fix the problem. Just like the 49ers firing their offensive coordinator didn’t solve their offensive problems.

Seattle picking up Lynch is interesting, to say the least. I’m guessing there are some annoyed Packer fans out there now as well. As for the Seahawks, the running game hasn’t shown up yet but whether that’s because they lacked the right back or because the offensive line isn’t doing much to help is the real question. I guesss we’re going to find out.

On average, there are about 10-12 blocked punts in an NFL season. Rarely do you see a team have 2 blocked punts in a year, and in fact the NFL team average is less than 2 blocked punts every FIVE years.

So I say, too bad. When you have a punt blocked one week, it damn well better be your priority to make sure it doesn’t happen again the rest of the season. So when you have another punt and a FG blocked the VERY NEXT WEEK, that’s about as fail as it gets, and it’s time to find someone else for the job.

Pro sports is like government. You only need to look like you’re doing something to keep the fans quiet.

By FO’s numbers, Miami was 9th overall in special teams last year. The year before, 28th (I think – going from memory, was low 20s). The firing strikes me as an immediate overreaction, though if they continued at this rate all season he wouldn’t last to 2011. I don’t know what his in-house replacement is supposed to do.

Moss: 0 receptions, 0 yards. Welker: 8 receptions, 70 yards. I smell a Miami win!

Miami’s offense isn’t built to win 31-28 games. They need to limit the big gains

I’d say I was pretty accurate there. :) Of course, who’s ever going to predict three returns for TDs in a game. :(

I’d be curious to see how that game would have turned out if not for the special teams blunders. Henne obviously threw some awful passes for INTs, but their plan was obviously to let the Pats run wild and not let Moss and Welker beat them. You play even on special teams and that’s probably still a close game in the 4th quarter.

You can say that again.

Panthers cut Dwayne Jarrett after his second arrest for drunk-driving in less than three years.

Despite the depleted Panthers receiving corps, this will have approximately zero impact.

Randy Moss may be traded midseason, to Minnesota.

There’s so many conflicting rumors about this it make me wonder if the press are bored.

IMO, with the exception of the Ted Ginn miracle game, they have sucked at returns and covering returns in the three years the guy has been here.

The blocks were the last straw…

This and the press hate Moss more than they hate Belechick. Adam Schefter or whatever his name is at ESPN loves to dig dirt on the Pats- Tom Brady is quitting!! This team hates their coach!!–as they go on to win a superbowl.

This could of course happen. But what Randy does to other defenses, just by being on the field is worth whatever pain he is. All the behinds the scenes stuff I’ve seen- practices in person, locker room video- Moss seems to be a good team mate, so I think in the press it is a matter of old reputation coloring the story.

I think Adam Schefter is notified whenever ESPN needs a story. He then makes up bullshit and prays it sticks.

According to the talking heads on the NFL Network just 20min ago, the Moss trade is a done deal.

(I was watching it while feeding my newborn son, morning TV stinks :P)

That’s pretty shocking. Third round pick, is what I’m reading.

Ya, they were saying they get a 3rd round pick in 2011 rather than the conditional 3rd round pick in 2012 they would have gotten if he went to Free Agency at the end of the season.

Well, thanks for the memories Moss.

My inner fanboi is pissed, but I totally get what Bill is attempting to build.

Yeah. Maybe now Edelman, Tate, and the other younger receivers will get a chance to shine.

No hard feelings, Randy. Maybe if Tom had thrown you the ball a few more times, you would have won that Super Bowl.

What is he trying to build? The world’s largest collection of second and third-round picks?

The Super Bowl L championship team.
