Kenny Britt could be out 6-8 weeks. No wonder Moss got snatched up. I see good things in Nate Washington’s future if this rumor is true.

Your dislike of McNabb aside, there is no question that he is the best QB on the Redskins roster right now. That is why Shanahan’s behavior is so odd. It would be one thing if they had some talented younger QB they wanted to play, but they don’t. Shanahan will have the option of going elsewhere next season if he thinks McNabb isn’t the best choice, but this is a guy he presumably wanted and to potentially torpedo the season at this point this way is incomprehensible.

Cris Carter finally spoke up about Moss today on ESPN Radio. Carter was basically Moss’ mentor his first few years in the league. According to Carter, Moss doesn’t do well when his coaches aren’t firm, consistent, in-control kind of guys, which explains why he’s done best under guys like Dennis Green and Belichick but not so well under weaker personalities like Norv Turner and Childress. Fisher is more like the former coaches, so that bodes well for Moss and his time with the Titans.

If Moss doesn’t tone it down and play hard, he’s an idiot. He has millions of dollars on the line for his next contract.

Of course he’s managed to do dumb things in the past, so all bets are off.

I am looking forward to seeing what he does with the Titans. Young does throw a pretty deep ball and Chris Johnson is really fun to watch.

Hasselbeck out with a concussion for Sunday, Whitehurst in. Sigh. Not that I expected a win, but I hoped we could keep it close. I hope we don’t get Charlie knocked out with too many sacks too early in the game…

Given the health of the rest of the team (most of the starting offensive and defensive lines out, etc.), I’m going to be surprised if they don’t end up with at least a four or five game mid-season losing streak. This week will be #2, and then they are on the road against Arizona and New Orleans. Then a home game against Kansas City. Their next even half winnable game is Dec. 5th at home against the Panthers.

I’m hoping they will surprise me, but the injuries are just getting ridiculous. They are talking about starting Pitts(!) at LT this week after all.

That was a fun article. I think it picks-and-chooses the stats a little, but that’s just the way the opinion column game is played.

From a 'Skins fan prospective, I think Shanahan handled the Haynesworth thing pretty well. He was handed a prima donna and he slapped him down hard enough to show him who was in charge. Haynesworth is has played the last couple games with more passion than he ever brought to the table with Zorn last year.

But the Grossman thing was just stupid on all levels. It cost us a game that was still (remotely) winnable, demoralized the locker room and may well have cost the Redskins a winning season. We’ll see next week, I guess.

I’m sure that Charlie really wants to start, to get his chance after having been in the league for 5 years…and, this OLine is poop now with all of the injuries and the Giants have literally knocked 4-5 QBs out of the game so far this year.

It’s not going to be a pretty game.

4-5? Who else other than Romo and Cutler?

Vince Young and Matt Moore.

Yeah, up to five now.

The Moss story continues to percolate. The latest twist says that Moss went to the owner of the Vikings and told him Childress was the problem. Childress heard about it and then decided to cut Moss (he has control over the active roster under his contract) and that the owner at least considered firing Childress and bringing back Moss, though he was presumably talked out of that by other team management.

All that really means is that the Vikings will almost certainly be cleaning house after the season.

Yeah, I’d say Childress is gone. He completely bungled the whole Favre thing and there was probably a better way to handle Moss.

They still have a good nucleus in Minnesota. Get a new HC and figure out the QB position and they are a playoff team again. McNabb might be available after the season. They could give Jackson a shot at starting too. In fact if they lose another two or three games they might as well bench Favre and let Jackson play to see what they think about him.

Out of curiosity, what the hell else is the head coach supposed to do when a player goes over his head like that?

Any team in the league can be a playoff team if they figure out the QB position. Problem is, it’s not so easy to figure out.

It’s really kind of a shame. I mean the Seahawks could own the NFC West any given season if they could stay healthy, which seems to be a concern nearly every season now. It always seems to be just a matter of time before the O line wilts and Hass gets hit so many times he has to miss games, and then usually the Hawks end up losing too many games in his absence.

Also, Donovan McNabb may very well be declining in his ability, but even still he’s the best QB the Redskins have had since…Hell, Mark Rypien maybe!

It looks like the team has quit on the guy. Flailing around helplessly and releasing Moss lost him what little control he still had.

Dammit, Suh was wide right on his extra point attempt.

NE is the worst team in football…just sayin.’

Talk about a trap game…sheesh.

A little more on Shanahan in a column about Jake Plummer today:

That was the beginning of the end for Plummer in Denver. Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, whom Plummer loved playing for, soon became the head coach for the Houston Texans. Then Shanahan drafted Jay Cutler(notes) in the NFL draft’s first round that spring, benching The Snake mid-way through the following season despite a 7-4 record at the time.

The grind of playing for an uber-perfectionist like Shanahan wore on Plummer during his time in the Rockies.

“I had a coach that, regardless of how well I thought I was playing or how well the majority of fans across the country thought I was playing, it was never good enough for him,” Plummer said, not bitter but very matter-of-fact. "And that kind of gets frustrating.

“It just seemed like every game I could have completed these four more passes or these five more shots here and it would have been perfect. And that just wasn’t my personality… But Shanahan wanted perfection and he wore a lot of us down there.”

Plummer didn’t sound surprised by the current circus unfolding in Washington, D.C., between Shanahan and Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb(notes).

“I think Shanahan is still searching for John Elway,” Plummer said. "Somehow, someway, he thinks there’s going to be another guy like John Elway.

“He coached a team to almost perfection [with Elway] so he wanted that again, he wanted that every time we went out there. It’s just not realistic.”

28-0 Giants midway through the second quarter. How exciting that this is the only game we are allowed to watch this afternoon.

Now 35-0 Giants and Whitehurst has thrown two picks. The Giants are moving at will against what’s left of Seattle’s defense.
