You can’t lay the Cowboys problems on Romo. Look at their running game. Or their extreme lack of defense. Romo is serviceable to good, depending how well the coaches are doing. And we can see how well the coaches are doing.

Oh, don’t get me wrong: Romo is definatly not the biggest issue Dallas has. You are correct to point out a defense that apparently has completely given up on the year, coaching and game management that are piss-poor at the very best (the inablity to challenge that fumble after the punt last night is an encapsulation of Wade’s decision making as a head coach), and the 2 headed opposite-of-monster running game are all much, much more responsable for the Cowboys utter collapse than Romo is.

News is breaking that Wade has been fired, Garrett named interim coach.

Romo is, at worst, an above-average QB. An above-average QB maybe isn’t going to do that Favre/Manning/Elway superstar QB thing of making it so you have a realistic shot at the playoffs every year no matter what else happens on your team, but if you’ve got a good team, a guy on that level can definitely win with it. I think Eli Manning and Roethlisberger are on that same level, and that’s worked out pretty well for those teams.

But anyway, the bigger point is that you need to be realistic about what your options are. It’s not like you get to choose between Romo and Peyton Manning. You get to choose between Romo and… what, some kid in the draft? Matt Stafford or JaMarcus Russell or something? It’s possible that works out for you – every superstar QB in the league was drafted at some point, right? – but look at the odds, and Romo is better than anything you can reasonably expect to get.

This makes me happier than any Redskins win.

Jerry Jones is the problem. No coach that is worth a shit is going to take a job there as long as he is ‘GM’ and involved so heavily in stuff that is obviously over his head.

Listening to Eagles fans after Vick wins a game is pretty hilarious. It’s like an entire city eating Pinchy the lobster.

Fixed that for you.

Agreed. Plus, Garrett as OC has been as much a part of the problem with the Cowboys this year as anyone. They have 3 good running backs…and the Cowboys have been pass happy. It’s ridiculous.

This.

What about Parcells?

In desperation Jones does realize his limitations. And a lot of people think the Cowboys have the talent to be a superbowl team, which means Jones’ meddling has worked out a lot better then, say Snyder in DC. If Jones hires a legitimate coach this time they will probably live up to their talent. If he hires another failed coach or unproven coordinator then he will be lucky if it works out.

I bet we see a big name, such as Gruden (whom I can’t stand as a coach, but does have a SB ring) or the Jaw in there at the start of the next season.

The entire Dallas team is overrated, and I’ve been saying that from before the season. I wasn’t the only one, either, so I don’t mean to suggest that I knew more than anyone else. The amount of hype they received was WAY over the top. Unfortunately, some of the players seem to have bought into it and thought they were just going to steam roll everyone. They don’t look like a team that put work into the offseason. They look like a team that expected opponents to roll over for them.

You can’t really blame the media for that, but you can blame them for constantly overstating the quality of NFC East teams, just because of the markets. I get that it’s the most popular division in football because of those markets, but at some point, I’d like a bit of analysis from my analysts. More ‘ysts’ less ‘anal’.

Dallas may have been overrated, but I think they are much better than a 1-7 team. I’d attribute that to a tough schedule, bad coaching, and some close games going the wrong way.

It’s like that for other teams too. I think the Niners could easily be 4-4 or better instead of 2-6. The Lions probably should have 4 wins.

Oh well. It’s the NFL. It’s a highly competitive league.

What Jerry should do is fire his current, incompetent GM. The problem with that is that Jerry really, really likes his current GM, and is unlikely to fire him as long as he lives and owns the Cowboys.

Packers continue to fly under the radar, and that’s alright by me.

Blatant helmet to helmet on Mike Wallace by a Bengal at the end of the half, not even a flag (oddly few flags the first half of the game).

What’s the over/under on the fine? At least, thankfully, Wallace appeared to not have been hurt!

Wow, 'Twaan’s got a heck of an arm.

That was an incredible play. Ben hands off to El, then throws a great block on a defender; all to allow El throw a bomb to Wallace for the TD. 39 yards. Looked like the super bowl XL play, almost.

Seriously, the Bengals are so, so terrible. What happened to the team that could play well last year?!

I don’t think they’re under the radar so much as they were generally favored to win the NFC in the pre-season and therefore under-achieving relative to the early radar.
