What Really Happened In Nashville

Warning: Bigass image.

I admit it, I cracked up at the back to back photos of Rusty.

The ending is perfect. :)

I linked to the wrong video. Here’s what I originally meant to link to:

Hey, if you want to side with Skip Bayless, go ahead. ;-)

I do find it interesting that Bayless defends VY despite noting all the issues, including what is now being reported rather widely, which is that VY has still not shown the dedication to being a great QB that teams want in the NFL. Both Clayton (ESPN) and King (SI/NBC) both mentioned that today in radio/tv appearances.

The bigger question about VY aside, the thing that continues to bother me is that many VY defenders (including Bayless in that clip) keep pointing to him “wanting to come back into the game” as if that is enough to make Fisher’s decision to not put him back in the game questionable. Fisher said he didn’t think VY was going to be effective given the injury and the Titans continue to say that VY has a tendon tear that will require surgery. Assuming that is legitimately the case, then it really doesn’t matter what VY wanted in that situation. And after five years VY needs to be mature enough to recognize that not every decision Fisher makes is personal.

Yeah, I hate to agree with Skip, too. As did the other guy on the show.

I think part of the issue with that is that people have this perception of VY (hell, even within this thread since Sunday) as someone who quits wanting to play as soon as he gets a tiny little scratch, as soon as things go wrong.

And as Bayless pointed out, VY did fine in that game earlier in the season when Fisher apparently thought he wasn’t healthy enough to play, then put him in in the second half.

There’s definitely a feeling that Fisher will use any excuse he can find not to play Vince. It took an 0-6 start and Bud Adams’ direct command for him to do it last year, and look how that turned out.

So when Fisher says “he didn’t think VY was going to be effective given the injury” as you say, there’s really damn good reason to question Fisher’s opinion on the matter. He has a history.

As for “defending” Vince, there’s nothing to defend. Fisher needs to get over the fact that the Titans didn’t draft Leinart, and Young needs to grow up off the field. I’m sure that as Young gets older, he’ll be fine.

If there was a question as to the severity of the injury, then I would agree. However, by all accounts (outside of some conspiracy theorists), VY suffered a major thumb injury to his throwing hand. The kind of injury that knocks just about every QB out because you can’t throw a football effectively without a working thumb. That’s where the “it’s Fisher’s bias” theory falls apart in my book.

Everything else aside, I have to agree with this. I would have to think Fisher was more than happy to put VY on IR.

Of course, I also tend to think Fisher isn’t as shallow in his thinking as that. I think a lot has happened that we don’t know about that has allowed Fisher to write VY off in his mind. If Bud Adams didn’t insist on keeping his as a big eff you to Texas, VY would be as dim a memory as Leinart is becoming. Also, funny Leinart didn’t end up in Tennessee after being cut.

If you’re agreeing with Skip Bayless on anything, you probably want to check yourself… just sayin.

In slightly more important Titans news, OC Mike Hiemedinger has been diagnosed with cancer and is going on leave to get treatment. I hope all turns out well for him and his family.

Vince Young gave his offensive coordinator cancer? Dang.

Randy Moss certainly couldn’t have helped.

Just one catch for 26 yards, plus a touchdown called back on a pass interference call, in two games?

'course, maybe that’s on Vince, too.

Yeah. I’m now starting to hear even from normally pro-Longhorn folks that VY wasn’t exactly Mr. Dedicated. We’re talking about comparisons with Jamarcus Russell, here. If we could get a guy with VY’s talent to work as hard as Colt McCoy, well then…

…we’d have Michael Vick. ;)

So true. So true.

If he is half as good as The Pipe’s other Pro QBs, he will do fine!

This Saints/Cowboys game is just all over the place. Roy Williams is going to be such a goat if they don’t win this.

MALCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLM MMMJENKINSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Holy shit, Brad Smith!

Josh McDaniels and assistant fined by league for videotaping Niners’ walk-thru. To be fair, the league concluded McDaniels did not view the tape that Broncos director of video operations Steve Scarnecchia made. Scarnecchia was fired for the incident but Josh was fined because he did not report it (oh, like who would). Scarnecchia is a former employee of the Patriots, so it was decided he was a repeat offender. And they lost!

God, why would anyone feel the need to tape the Niners’ practices? You see everything you are going to get in the first quarter anyway!

The comments in response to that article are amusing. This still remains a very controversial issue to some people.

Supposedly Bowlen isn’t very happy about all of this, at least according to what I heard on ESPN radio today. The article kind of dismisses the idea, and the uncertain labor situation probably also helps McDaniels, but between how the team has played under him, some of the horrible personnel decisions, and now this, I can’t believe that Josh has much time left to save his job.

Cheat against the Niners? Bill has the right of with asking why anyone would do that…

Also, if Josh is a cheater, he really sucks at it.
