Fing Titans and their “miracle” at the Bills. We shall never forgive.
Based on JChaz’s average yards from scrimmage any time he’s touched the ball…I’ll stand by the hyperbole.
Dunno about the rest of his receivers, but Dwayne Bowe is having a career year, and Tony Moeaki is emerging as one of the better pass catching threats at TE in the AFC.
Perhaps, but maybe you would prefer stats? I’ve given some above. Fisher has 6 winning seasons in his 17 seasons with the organization. They’ve had a 5 game losing streak in 5 of the last 7 seasons (but none while VY was QB, which could be a coincidence, I’ll admit). His career record is a bit over 500 (and to be fair, he’s had MANY 8-8 seasons, to the point where some fans have started calling him Coach Ocho Ocho).
Fisher is great at working the media. They love him. And he really is a players’ coach, for the most part. He is fiercely loyal to his players, and he expects the same in return. That’s where VY screwed up, IMO. If Fisher doesn’t feel he can trust you to be there for the team, you are out as far as he is concerned. And rightly so.
I don’t support Young like Rimbo does. I want them both gone. I don’t think Young has the mental makeup to be an NFL QB. He takes everything way too personally. But Fisher just isn’t getting results anymore, if he ever truly did.
I agree with this about Young. You build the team around the QB and if he’s going to blow up, or act up when things don’t go his way, you don’t have a good foundation. I think they should get rid of him.
And if they keep Young and dump Fisher, what does that say to Young? That he has all the power? That it’s ok to act up and walk out of a team meeting?
Absolutely. But all I’ve said about this has been this season. For a career choice, I haven’t seen enough out of Johnson to warrant him over Charles, or Charles over Johnson. They’ve each had one crazy year and one good year.
In other news, the New York Giants are stuck in Kansas City thanks to the blizzard in Minnesota. Who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow!
It’s the football gods being worried about Favre not starting and ending his streak. They want to give him an extra day.
And that’s exactly what happened… now the game is being postponed to Monday night. (Though it’s apparently less about the tight timing of the Giants flying in first thing in the morning and more about worry that the Metrodome roof will need additional time to be cleared of snow for safety.)

This. 6 winning seasons out of 17 is some new definition of “good coach” I’m not quite familiar with.
He’s had five 8-8 seasons I believe.
So another way of spinning it is that in 17 years he’s had five losing seasons.

In general that’s true, but Fisher was lucky(?) enough to have some extenuating circumstances at the beginning of his career and has avoided many “bad” seasons, which is usually when the fanbase (except in the most demanding markets) demands change. While it’s true he’s had only six winning seasons, he’s also had seven seasons with 8-8 or 7-9 records. So that means out of 15 complete seasons, 13 were 7-9 or better, which is actually pretty good - not many franchises can say that. And everytime he has two or three .500 or worse seasons, he turns it around with a couple of 10+ win seasons.
Overall his winning percentage isn’t unprecedented for someone who’s been an NFL head coach for this long, though it isn’t average either. Of current coaches, Shanahan and Belichick have similar (slightly behind) total games and better records (as well as multiple titles), but Coughlin has only a slightly better winning percentage (though he does have the Superbowl win). Jim Mora (senior) and Sid Gillman are modern coaches with worse winning percentages and no titles who still got long careers.

Assuming this year ends up being worse then 7-9, in 17 season he will have had four years with fewer then 7 wins as a coach. And one of those was as an interim coach his first year where he only coached six games.

What it means is that he’s average. Mediocre. Not good.

I guess that’s good enough for Bud Adams, though.
Personally I think Fisher should go somewhere else, but he’s under contract for another year so it’s up to Adams. And given the labor uncertainty, I’m guessing Adams isn’t going to make that change this year. As for what that means for VY, who knows.
In the same division as Peyton Manning and the Colts, who have been stupid successful during that same period of time. That’s some bad luck, right there.

A funny aspect to this is that the Giants/Vikings game was Fox’s big game for Sunday, meaning they sent their “A” team. Now that the game has been delayed, the country will reportedly get to watch the Packers/Lions game instead.
Nooooo! My EYES!
In all seriousness, that might be a pretty decent game.
Yikes! The roof of the Metrodome has collapsed from the weight of the snow. Now what are they going to do? Doesn’t seem likely that they can get the place ready to host a game by Monday night…
Is there a precedent for handling cancelled games due to venue issues in the NFL?
They are looking for a different venue for the game; Detroit is being considered.
