The Jets coach who tripped the Miami player is suspended without pay for the rest of the season, including any post-season play, and fined $25K. That’s a lot of cheddar for an assistant. At least a month without pay, plus the fine, I’m wondering if he can afford it. And the dude may still lose his job over this. At least he was very, very, very tearful and contrite in the press conference. That might save his ass. Ryan doesn’t think he should be fired, either, but it might not be his call.

Also, The Favre’s consecutive start streak is over at 297.

You can get a commemorative jersey on his website for just 500 bucks!

I loved Ricky Williams’ comment about the Jets coach tripping the player. “It’s the Jets right? We’re not surprised.”

It was a stupid thing to do, why trip the guy? I think that penalty is a little harsh but I’m sure they are making an example of him.

I think if it were a sidelined player that did the tripping then the penalty might not have been so high. Players get caught up in the emotions of the game, and do stupid stuff like start fights, this sort of thing. But a coach should probably be above this. I don’t think ‘stupid’ is even the right word. That’s some seriously poor judgment.

How bad are the Lions? This is first time in more than a decade that there’s been a Monday night football game in Detroit, and it’s the Giants and Vikings.

Texans Special Teams = FAIL. Jeezus.

It’s nice to finally have a Monday night game that’s actually worth watching. Houston played like turds the first half but they’re sure in it now.

Damnit Baltimore!

Nice series by Houston.

I’m not a fan of either MNF team, but damn this is an exciting end of the game.

Baltimore defense can’t even stand

Edit: They won’t need to! YES!

Terrible decision. Even worse throw.

LOL…

I thought for sure they and the team were done. Way to let the Texans back into the game.

I heard they gave away tickets for free too.

I heard Golic on M&M this morning make a good point. Those guys didn’t just happen to be standing there. There job is to get in the way of the flankers that get pushed out of bounds. He showed really poor judgement in doing that job obviously. Still, it’s a dumb thing to have the coaches be standing there “accidentally” interfering anyway.

The rules you have to make so that people don’t do dumb things…

The rule is a weird honor system type of thing in the first place and sort of subjective as well (if the runner gets pushed out.) There’s a huge difference between standing there as a deterrent to a runner and actively interfering, but apparently professionals cannot control themselves. It’s something that needs to be solely in the judgment of the refs and not left to the kind of bullshit gamesmanship that goes on. IMO, anyone without a uniform needs to get their ass way back, and anyone with a uniform can’t stand there during plays. Once the sideline is clear then the cameras/coaches/officials can still see the play while being farther back, i.e., draw another line.

That was my reaction when I saw the play as well. All the Jets coaches were right on the line and the guy who got in trouble was just the first one in a row. Which is not to say he didn’t do anything wrong, just that letting coaches stand right there is probably a bad idea to begin with.

Yeah, exactly. He definitely crossed the line, but why are coaches standing there in the first place…

It’s standard practice for them to do that. They did it when they moved a Chargers game to Arizona because of the wildfires a few years back. The NFL wants its stadiums full for the cameras.
