It’s as if the Redskins saw that the Vikings were going to unanimously win the NFL Epic Fail award for 2010 and decided to make a late run at it.

At this point the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers will get to the playoffs again before the Redskins. What a trainwreck of a franchise.

I get the feeling Shanahan is sandbagging for draft position at this point.

Dammit, Washington.

…and the playoff-bound Eagles (who’ll get the Redskin’s 2nd and either or 3rd or 4th round picks from the McNabb deal) greatly appreciate it! Andy Reid has to be laughing his considerable ass off.

Agreed. Reid and the Eagles are in great position for next year with the extra picks from the Redskins plus I can see them trading Kolb or Vick for even more picks.

Yep. Bad coaching and inconsistent at best QB play are the primary culprits here.

It’s a good thing I watched this game on DVR after I got home from teaching and was by myself. Every time I say to myself that I’m not going to lose my shit watching them get beat but boy do they ever find creative ways to fuck up. The FG-wait-nothing and the called back TD run by Ginn were the best.

Looks like Polamalu is probably going to miss the Jets game.

Actually, the Titans are in the same boat. But we haven’t suffered for as many years as you have, since we did have a good season with Collins a couple of years ago. Still, our coach and QB situations are currently keeping us from succeeding, despite having one of the best RBs in the league, a pretty good receiving group finally, and a defense that can play well with a lead but is missing a couple of key players. Since finding a QB is pretty hard, we may have to console each other a bit over the next several years.

Coaching aside, the QB issue may be solvable short-term depending on who ends up on the market. Not that any available QB’s are going to be great, but there will be some guys who in a run oriented offense would probably be an upgrade over what the Titans and 49ers have right now. Guys like McNabb. That could at least lead to a few solid playoff seasons and maybe you get lucky and develop some young player to take over later.

I enjoyed seeing that wounded duck pass from Rivers go right to that Niners LB and have him not be able to catch it. Yeah, he had that glove on, but still it was just a matter of making a catch in his arms.

The Niners seem to have some bad juju working against them. They do seem like the most talented team in the West, but they sure find ways to not win.

Yeah, they are sitting on a #1 pick with Kolb as trade bait. Probably get another pick for him too.

They won’t trade Vick. He’s playing like Superman.

The way Kolb was playing when he was in…they could trade either and still be in a fine spot next year. Probably.

Re: McNabb benching

IF this is truly about preparing for the future now that the playoffs are well and truly mathematically eliminated, the Skins should also be sitting Santana Moss (who is going to want 175 cents on the dollar for his FA contract next year)

Casey Rabach should sit. Stinks and no way he will be back.

Mike Sellers should sit. Ancient and we need to see if another FB can replace him.

Which brings up a theme - if the Skins sat every other starter over 30 - Fletcher, Carter, Hicks, Daniel - it would create some holes in the team, but nothing that shouldn’t be evaluated for next year.

The Skins already have a ton of film on marginal and ‘street’ players, as they have been forced to play a ton of them, but a few more game speed films can’t hurt.

McNabb can be cut at the end of the year and get nothing. Shanahan doesn’t seem to know how to coach players that other coaches have gotten a lot out of.

Why do you say that? The Eagles were convinced that Kolb was The Future for them, but he never played well at all, and even if he hadn’t been injured, he was going to get benched for Vick.

To me, Reid got lucky: he got rid of McNabb, thinking that Kolb was great. Kolb turned out not be great, but inexplicably Vick was. That’s a good deal for him, but it does mean that Kolb is now just another backup QB, or maybe a 3rd round trade.

Uh what? Do you remember that guy called John Elway? While Reeves didn’t win a SB with him, the Broncos went to several with Elway before winning two with Shanahan. Dan Reeves seemed to get a lot out of him before Shanahan became head coach.

That’s exactly what the local sports talk around here (Philadelphia) are saying. Kolb is worth a 3rd rounder at best.

Kolb actually had a couple of fine games after he came in when Vick was hurt and missed a couple of games with the rib injury he picked up in the Redskins game.

I think the Iggles will hold onto both guys.

But thats Philly sports talk. ie “The beatings will continue until morale improves”.

Yeah, the Eagles could keep both of them if they want to. Kolb signed a two year deal prior to this season that was front loaded, so they pay him quite a bit this year but have him under contract for a relatively low number next year. Vick is a free agent after this season, but the Eagles could either resign him or do the franchise thing (if that survives after the new labor contract.)

That said, the Eagles should trade one of them if someone is willing to offer a lot for the player. And there are several teams that desperately need a QB who would probably be willing to give up a first round pick even for Kolb.
