Either that or Fred Saberhagen started doing color commentary.

So now the NFC West will be decided next week in Seattle, which makes today’s game meaningless for the Seahawks. I wonder if they rest their banged up players now?

Hats and T-shirts!

McNabb Conspiracy theory #2: The guy performs oral sex on every sports writer/commentator in the free world. Is McNabb made of teflon?

As a life-long, die-hard Eagles fan, I’ve seen him make some of the worst plays in NFL history. And it was always Andy’s fault, or he didn’t have a good O-line, or he didn’t have anybody to throw to, or… Jesus H Christ, maybe he just isn’t as good as his reputation in the media makes him out to be?

Don is a pretty good QB, he gave us Eagles fans lots of excitement over the years, but he really isn’t and never was a member of the elite NFL QBs. Under Reid, Kolb…fucking Kolb, has a rating of 85.3 this year and the O-line sucks, what’s left of them anyway.

After watching Vick get pounded and abused in several games, he never…ever blamed anyone but himself when the Iggles lost a game.

McNabb has to stop his incessant whining, it really is getting tiresome. He sucks in DC, of course the blame must lie with the coaches, or the O-Line, or the wideouts, or…

Sorry to babble on, but Philly fans never gave Don the respect he deserved. Now Skins fans aren’t respecting poor Donovan. Anyone see a connection here?

So Tebow helps the Donks have a comeback victory. I don’t know whether to be pleased or nauseated.

McNabb played on a lot of teams that went deep into the playoffs. I think he’s earned some respect. From watching him from time to time, the only knock I ever had against him is that his accuracy comes and goes. I wouldn’t call him a highly accurate QB. I see bounced passes and a lot of passes that receivers have to wait on or stretch for.

So in my own pantheon of NFL QBs I’ve always thought of him as good but not great, although I think for his first few years he may have been great when he could still win games with his legs. It’s been a long time since he’s been capable of doing that, though.

This is true, but it’s also true that Brady has a much better offensive line in New England than Vick has in Philadelphia.

I’m not saying Vick should be MVP, but if he wins it I would say that he deserves it based on the o-line fact alone. The Eagles have a sieve in front of him and the holes are fairly large.

When did Dave change his name to cornfuzed?

When will you finally realize that Philly fans were telling the truth all along? McNabb is who we said he was. We watched him for years. The rest of the country stopped in for Monday Night Football once in awhile and sung praises of a guy who didn’t deserve them.

'Tis seeming, more and more, that this was the case.

Stats don’t lie though, and his repeated trips to the playoffs don’t lie either. There are not many QB’s that got to the playoffs more often then McNabb. That said, no, he wasn’t a great QB, but he was a good one.

In other news, Singletary is fired out of SF. No surprise there. Too much talk, not enough execution.

Bite me ;)

And quoted for truth from me

“Don is a pretty good QB, he gave us Eagles fans lots of excitement over the years, but he really isn’t and never was a member of the elite NFL QBs.”

Hey Eightball, how is Donny stirring up the media in DC lately?

Few QBs are. I always found it interesting that Eagles fans imply that if they had gotten rid of Donovan McNabb they would have drafted a better QB when the odds clearly do not favor it. Also, players age. Comparing this season’s McNabb to the McNabb of 5 or more years ago to prove a point that he always played the way he does this season is stupid.

Speaking of Eagles fans, I thought the other part of the problem was Andy Reid according to you guys. I guess that’s suddenly not a problem anymore now that they are winning.

I don’t take Philly fans seriously because you guys complain about everything.

Donovan McNabb is a solid QB who is a capable of taking teams to championships. He isn’t in the absolute top tier (Brady, Vick, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, Rivers) but he is about right under that. Reid was right to trade him (he had two capable QBs) but I don’t see that as reason to hold anything against McNabb. I think the Cardinals should take him until they can groom the right guy.

EDIT: Ha, Bill beat me to it.

When did I say McNabb wasn’t a good QB?

Reading is fundamental.

His whining is what pisses me off. His rating this year is 77.1, sit down, shut the fuck up and deal with it. But no, he blames everyone but himself, as he always did.

Even in the good years in Philly it was the same thing, when things were good, he talked about I and me. When things were bad it was they and them.

If the guy wants to be a stud, take the blame, and carry the team.

Keep sucking his dick, I don’t care. Eventually you’ll see what he really is, a decent QB that works the media to his favor. Oh and his mom cooks soup!

It’s going to be interesting see what the crowd is like for that game. Many people here seem pretty down on the team at this point, basically since the loss at San Francisco. And in a lot of ways it might be best for the team to lose to St. Louis next week. Not the least of which is that it would mean the NFC West at least sent a decent team to the playoffs this year. ;-)

Holy crap, the revisionist history on McNabb is amazing. Until McNabb the Eagles had a string of starting QBs that were, let’s see, Koy Detmer, Rodney Peete, Doug Pederson, and Bobby Hoying. McNabb gave them stability at the position longer than most teams have stability at that position.

Yeah, he was probably overrated because he was scattershot and inaccurate at times, but he made up for it with his mobility and leadership. But he managed what he managed with no real power back and no real receivers. Seriously, here were the leading receivers for the Eagles:

1999 - Torrance Small
2000 - Chad Lewis
2001 - James Thrash
2002 - Todd Pinkston
2003 - Todd Pinkston
2004 - T.O.
2005 - T.O.
2006 - Reggie Brown
2007 - Kevin Curtis
2008 - DeSean Jackson
2009 - DeSean Jackson

I was never a huge fan of Mcnabb, but he was clearly one of the better and more consistent QBs in the league. He got the Eagles to the playoffs consistently and the SB once. He’s done more than any other Eagles QB in recent memory and for a longer period of time.

Out of that 1999 QB draft class, he’s the only one that’s still in the league. Five QBs drafted in the first 12 picks and McNabb is the only one still around. McNabb is, in fact, the ONLY QB FROM THAT DRAFT STILL PLAYING! A couple other QBs in there had briefly interesting careers (Culpepper and Aaron Brooks), but McNabb was consistently starting that entire time.

Out of the top 10 picks in that draft, only McNabb, Bailey, and R. Williams are still playing.

McNabb could have been better, but he was definitely good enough to win with and 75% of the other teams in the league would have straight up taken up in a trade during any given year.

Are you on Crack? The Eagles took him as their number one pick, second pick in the draft in 99.

WHEN THE FUCK DID I SAY MCNABB WAS A BAD QB???

His point was that most drafted QBs don’t work out. McNabb was not easily replaceable with someone better.

Arguing with Philly fans is pointless. All they care about is winning titles so since McNabb didn’t deliver that he will never be great. Although they seem to forget that requirement when waxing poetically about how great AI was for the 76ers . . . ;-)
