They have to grant permission - doing anything to drag their feet just pisses Jackson off and hurts their chances to hire him.

Why can’t they just offer him the fucking job if that’s what they are going to do? I’m going to be majorly pissed if they fire Cable and lose Jackson too. Back to square 1 yet again. Poor Jason Campbell. He’s probably had more coaches than any currently starting QB in the league.

As a Raiders outsider, I have to agree with Jason Whitlock’s tweeted comment: “Not Fair League: Tom Cable fired for rebuilding Raiders.” Seemed to me like he had that team going in the right direction.

They didn’t want to pay him the $2.5M bonus, clearly.
Yeah, that decision re: Tom Cable is stupid as hell. Of all the coaches that deserved to have their contracts renewed without a winning season, he was one of the most deserved.

If the Raiders could keep Jackson and Cable then I think they made a huge mistake. If, however, Jackson was going to leave if not promoted, then we have to wait and see.
EDIT: Nevermind, Al Davis just fucked this franchise until his retirement.
What a bizarre twist in the Raiders saga.

The owners are just stupid. With the salaries the players have now (and ample warning), there’s no reason the players have to give. I suppose if the players self-destruct they could lose, but really, the players have the far stronger negotiating position.

Well, with the Tom Cable firing, we’ve already established that most owners are idiots.
The owners can lock out the players and the fans will be pissed, but once the games start again the fans will be back.
Bring back the XFL and “He Hurt Me” – we will need football!
What’s the new league called? The league that has about 4 teams? I imagine they are about to get real popular.
The UFL?
I like that their website is now pimping players who have been graduated to the NFL on the front page. But yes, a lockout could be a short-term win for the UFL, although I doubt any upstart league could pose any long-term challenge to the NFL. Its too much of a commercial and cultural juggernaut.
Nothing Al Davis does establishes anything about owners in general.
Kansas City star wideout Dwayne Bowe is not at practice today. In other news, the Chiefs signed WR Kevin Curtis.
EDIT: Kansas City says Bowe has an “illness.” More on this as it develops.
They put Bowe on the IR. He’s out for the playoffs now.
Wow, what a time to lose one of your best WRs.
Bowe isn’t on the IR as of 4:15 EST, 3:15 CST. Got a link?
Relatedly, the Saints did put oft-injured RB Pierre Thomas on IR, which gives them Reggie Bush and Julius Jones as the only real options on the team going to Seattle.

Like that’s going to be a problem for the Saints in this particular game . . . ;-)
Bowe’s listed as probable, from what I can see.
KC has some crazy Chief bloggers, and while they’re all over the absence of Bowe and Waters due to illness today, not one mention of Bowe on the IR. Don’t think it happened.
I can’t find anything about Bowe as on IR either. I’m really hoping he’s not.
