What would be even more hilarious would be if both Fisher and Young, looking for jobs, both ended up at the same place again.

The Broncos have given up on Harbaugh. It’s the Niners or Stanford, and Stanford apparently made him a nice offer. He may want to stay one more year with Luck.

Profootball Talk. Florio is a rumormonger though. He’s just speculating that this might be why Adams hasn’t officially come to a conclusion about Fisher. The 49ers thing is because Fisher played at USC, so he might want to go to CA again. That’s how Florio works. He makes up stories to generate traffic.

I’m not saying it won’t happen, of course. I’m just noting that Florio is not a reliable source.

Really? The best rumor site out there? Florio just makes things up. But he does it so often that sometimes things stick. I’ll grant that there’s entertainment value there, however.

I’m going further than the best rumor site - I think it’s the best football site on the net.

And yes, Florio passes along rumors and speculation . . . in the RUMOR mill section of the site.

He’s certainly no worse than most of the ESPN or other pundits, as far as rumors and speculation are concerned.

Noting that I disagree with much of his speculation on the Redskins - particularly regarding the influence of Dan Snyder, whom I think is mellowing into a better owner (better than, say, Jerry Jones)

In other NFL news…

Large Beer, Small Beer at Qwest Field

One is $1.25 more than the other.

Really interesting little behind-the-curtain piece in today’s UM newspaper:

Nothing like conflicting interests…

ESPN is reporting that Harbaugh has signed a 5 year deal with the 49ers.

I don’t know that it’s conflicting interests; Harbaugh seems to have decided very early on that if he stayed at the college level it would be at Stanford. At that point Michigan was out of the picture. Fans just need to stop thinking that Harbaugh coming in was ever likely - it wasn’t.

ESPN is reporting that Harbaugh has signed a 5 year deal with the 49ers.

Lombardi at NFL.com is reporting the same thing. The San Francisco Chronicle website isn’t making a big deal about it yet, but do say the 49ers have scheduled a news conference for later today.

I didn’t mean on Harbaugh’s part. I meant the relationship between UM and Ross. Ross is a major bankroll for UM, he paid for their new business school building among other things. The question becomes, if he says “jump” just how high UM is willing to jump…would they back off an attempted hire just because a wealthy donor asked/told them to?

Wow. That’s going to piss some people off. Good for the 49ers… I think.

EDIT: And now reports of Miami extending Sparano? Bwuh? I imagine he’s probably a little pissed at the Dolphins right now.

It’s a great move for the 49ers and much better then I expected they would do. And now the 49ers/Seahawks rivalry gets to add Harbaugh vs. Carroll to the mix. Not bad at all. ;-)

There’s a 49ers/Seahawks rivalry? They’ve only been in the same division for a few years.

I don’t think Carroll likes going up against Harbaugh at this point. So, there’s a coach v. coach rivalry, at least.

I’m sure he’s not happy with how it was handled, but NFL coaches tend to live year to year anyway. And if he’s back then all he has to do is win and he’ll be fine. That’s a tough division to be in, though.

What’s your deal???

The rumors surrounding the Miami situations suggest they told Sparano, “we’re going to take a look at some other guys, but there’s a chance we may want to stick with you. So we can let you go now if you want, or you can hang around and see how things shake out,” and he opted to wait around.

But really, the whole situation is ridiculous. He’s not the guy. Just let him go and start rebuilding. 2011 feels like a lost year with him still at the helm.

Always a classic.

Any chance that Luck will go for the draft now that his coach has gone to the NFL?

I think it depends on the CBA going through; a chance to earn an extra 50 million dollars in case you blow out a knee or shoulder sounds like a nice incentive to just finish your degree a few years later.

I think his window closed, but someone else can confirm for sure.
