A very young defense. I think 8-8 was a little pessimistic, but this team wasn’t really picked to make the playoffs at the start of the season, and them trading Moss was seen as throwing in the towel on the season.

Rodgers may not be the hugest asshole in the world after all.

From interviews and so on, here’s what I’ve learned about Rodgers. He works very hard to shape his image. He once said on a radio show something along the lines of, “I didn’t grow up this beard just for the heck of it. A lot of thought was put into it and how it would be perceived and handled at training camp. I did it because I thought it would help put the focus on my beard, rather than the favre and other talk.” It did.

He has a highly polished image. He spends a lot of time working on that image. Does that mean he’s an asshole or a good guy? No. It means he’s very aware of the situation he’s in. He did indeed walk past that lady, that time. He’s signed autographs for her before. Do I think he made a tactical error in cultivating his image? Maybe so. Do I think it’s half as big of a deal as Florrio or others are making it? No.

None of that has anything to do with is real personality though. He seems to me to be one of those guys that is not only highly conscious of how he can be perceived, but works hard to shape that perception. So when we see interviews or so on, it’s the image he wants us, the fans to see. Meaning, he most likely didn’t blow this lady off on purpose. It doesn’t fit with how hard he works on the rest of image, be it a front or not.

The question that keeps popping into my head - if she’s there all the time, and everybody knows her, why would he bother giving her yet another autograph? If she’s selling them, why should players support that? And if she’s not, how much crap does she need to get autographed before turning into a stalker? “Yep, signed a bunch of stuff for her last week, I’m good to go until we make the super bowl and she gets the ‘NFC Championship’ stuff”

I was wrong to jump to conclusions based on the video. (No, it was not based on the PFT post.) I’d met him, and found him somewhat rude; I’ve heard plenty of stories where people who met him found him to be rude. From what I’ve heard and seen, he treats waitstaff and retail employees poorly, and I’ve found this to be a good way to judge a person’s character.

But a lot of that is anecdotal, and I wasn’t there for it; I don’t know how true much of what I’ve heard really is. Knowing that he’d stopped for this woman before, when the cameras weren’t rolling, knowing he paid for many kids to have a special Christmas just over a year ago, reading this story and so forth…

I was wrong. Simply put.

But what if someone consistently gets bad service??

You joke, but Shmtur is right in that aspect. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat waiters, staff on whatever, etc.

Perhaps most damning for Aaron Rodgers is that he is friends with Jay Cutler.

There was some speculation yesterday that Tom Brady might have played with a broken foot on Sunday. He either broke it prior to the game, or during the game. It seemed like wild speculation, since there wasn’t anything about it from the Patriots.

Well, it turns out he’s having surgery for a stress fracture in his foot.

That could help explain why some of those passes sailed on him, though I don’t remember if he had any issue with footwork or stepping into his throws. More likely is just that the Jets played excellent defense and kept him off balance throughout the game.

How can you hate on the Magnum-stache?

That is no Magnum-stache, sir.

It’s as close as he’s going to get to manliness! Better than looking like Captain Patchybeard.

Hey, people make mistakes.

Or they die and no one notices.

Ahhh!!! Kill it!!

That’s a seriously close resemblance. Yeah, I think we’re going to have to kill it.

I don’t know if we have a banned advertisement thread or something, but have y’all seen the Pepsi/Doritos ad that got pulled from Pepsi’s “Make a Super Bowl Commercial” contest because it offended people?

Here’s a link to the video.

Is this offensive? Why?

I can kind of see why a Catholic might get offended, ACTUAL body of Christ and all that, but I’m a Protestant, so I don’t see the problem. My mom does, but she can’t explain it with any words other than, “Well, Jesus said to use the bread and the wine,” which still doesn’t make much sense to me.

Then again, I don’t see the point of (i.e. don’t care at all about) burning the (American) flag, so maybe I’m just not the kind of person who would ever get offended at something like this. I’m aware that a symbol is a symbol and if someone wants to use Doritos and Pespi instead of wafers and wine, go ahead.

Hey, isn’t that Iron Maiden’s mascot?

It’s making light of the most important part of the Mass. It doesn’t offend me, but I can understand why some people may not like it.
