So that leaves two first rounders: CJ Spiller and Russel Okung.
The word on Okung that is being mentioned now is that people think his agents are trying to force a “game changer” contract through. While the NFL highly rates left tackles, and the good ones make major money once their rookie deals end, the only position that has been given premium rookie money has been QBs. So the thought is that Okung wants premium money now. Either that or he wants the same deal Trent Williams got at #4 rather then a “split the difference” offer between what Eric Berry got at #5 and Joe Haden got at #7. That is generally what is believed to have been offered by Seattle. So he has to decide if he will “settle” for a contract around five years, $55m, $30m guaranteed.
The rookie salary thing is so insane. I’m glad this is probably the last year of this crap.
Not so fast
Let’s not write Brett off yet…
Brett Favre is like a kid out there! He has such a love for the game! The drama queen game!
Brett is an old school player in lots of ways. Plays for the love of the game and absolutely loves playing…
If you can ignore his off the field drama for the past few years, he’s still a treat to have in the league and you can’t deny he’s fun to watch play.
And Peyton should SO keep that visor. Robot Manning ftw!

Post #1:
We all know Favre is going to play, we all know he’s not going to show up for training camp, and we all know he’s going to hem and haw and keep his face on NFL Network as much as possible until then. If anyone is actually surprised by any developments in the Favre saga thus far, go back to special ed classes because it didn’t take. If he stays retired into September, then I’ll act surprised.

Thank you for that. Lest we all forget…

It’s hard to say whether yesterday’s “news” was a mistake on someone’s part or Favre playing with the media. Either way, it’s not like anyone expected him in camp anytime soon.

Today’s Russell Okung news is that the hang-up is over the years more then anything else. The one big difference between the guy signed ahead of him the guy signed after is the number of years, and obviously Okung and his agent want the lower years number.
One oddity about how this Seahawks regime works is that the GM apparently has very little involvement with the signing of players. At least that is what he keeps saying, that he really doesn’t follow it closely. They have a cap guy who does that stuff for them.
That doesn’t sound like a good move by the GM. He’s not going to be able to point at that guy later and say, “See, he’s the reason we lost!” You’d think you’d at least want to have a hand it…

Jerry Rice goes into the Pro Football HOF soon, and this article by Michael Lombardi, which reveals some details of how the 49ers came to draft him, is pretty interesting.

Hmm… That part about the GM worries me. I kind of wondered when we picked Pete Carol as our head coach if we’d end up with more of a figurehead GM, and it’s sounding like we did. Great… I’m at the point I’d be happy with a 6-10/7-9 season with the Hawks this year.
Yeah, same here, nixon. They sound like they are taking a bit longer term view and seeing this a building year too.

And Okung has finally signed. Reports say six years, $58m, $30m guaranteed. That’s pretty close to a split between the guys above and below and makes me wonder what the hold-up was.
New NFL rule for this year - when a player loses his helmet, the play is immediately whistled dead.
Interesting.
Marques Colston makes the catch at the 40!
He breaks a tackle!
HE…COULD…GO…ALL…THE…W-…
Wait…Ray Lewis just ripped off his helmet and it jumping in front of the referee!
The play is blown dead at the 15 yard line!
I believe deliberately removing a helmet has always been a personal foul.
So instead of a TD, we get a penalty and a dead play. shrugs
It’s probably not a bad rule, but if players start to try to rip helmets off, it should be worse than a personal foul. Maybe immediate ejection from the game if it’s deliberate.
CJ Spiller signed a 5 year, $25 million deal this morning and will be in Bills camp tonight. Is that the last of the first round picks signed?
