Warren’s the bigger loss. The Pats have a wealth of young receivers who can step up in place of Holt, but with Richard Seymour gone, and now Warren out, that defense is missing a lot of skill up front.
Poor Stafon Johnson. Who knows if he would have made the Titans, but to go through that weigh room tragedy and then have what appears to be a season ending injury in the first preseason game after fighting so hard to come back…life is just not being fair to this kid.
Yeah, it was no lock that Holt was even going to make the Pats roster.
The Vikes sure took Sam Bradford to school yesterday. He got sacked four times, but I can only put two on the line…Bradford needs to learn that he won’t have time to dance around back there. My biggest worry about him was whether he could make the quick decisions he’d have to make…and I’m still worried about it.
The two sacks I can lay right on the Rams line are actually on Jason Smith who has missed most of training camp. The Vikes just abused him.
How’s the offensive line coming along? I thought Seattle would be good last year but their line was terrible. They have a lot of guys who would be fantasy relevant if they could just protect the QB.

Tebow didn’t look horrible tonight, but what the hell? I thought they were gonna work on his motion. He just leaves that ball hang behind him, and is just asking for a DE to swipe it for a fumble. Just plain bad technique.

Depends on how good Okung is this year probably and how good of a miracle worker Alex Gibbs is. And how healthy they are. There were a lot of injuries last year. Locklear isn’t a bad RT and Unger a solid RG. The questions are really whether Spencer can hack it at center and whether Ben Hamilton next to Okung on the left is as solid as they claim.

He actually did have one fumble that was reversed because of this.
I didn’t see Tebow in action, but his revised motion had him holding the ball at his ear. Was he reverting to holding it low and away from his body? He really needs to lose that bad habit. Like you say, it’s a fumble waiting to happen, and it also lengthens his delivery.
I thought Bradford looked ok in his debut. The line didn’t do him any favors and he did make a couple of smart throws in throwing the ball away rather than force something.
I don’t know if he held onto the ball too long in his four sacks. None of them looked like he had much time and since I watched on TV, I have no idea if his receivers were covered.
What I did like is that he never looked nervous, looked in command, and made a few nice throws.
Anyway, I’m glad to have some football to watch again, even if it is preseason stuff.
Yes. It was actually kind of funny because they made such a big deal out of it pre-draft and during training camp and it’s such an obvious mechanic to spot that I could just imagine thousands of viewers groaning when he got in the game and, sure enough, dropped back and wound up from the hip.
That’s exactly what some predicted, under game-time pressure he would revert to old habits.
From a Denver paper:
Tebow’s wind-up – a subject of concern since before he was drafted – looked so long and slow that if he’d taken up pitching instead of quarterbacking, he’d be opponents’ absolute favorite to steal against.
I don’t think that will keep him from being a successful NFL QB, but it’s something he has to overcome, whether he does change his motion or he has enough ability to be successful in spite of it. That longer windup is going to give DBs another fraction of a second to get a jump on the pass.
Man, never try and talk to someone who adores Tebow about your doubts that he’ll ever be an effective NFL QB. There’s a cult of personality about him.
I always try to give him his due – he’s a good athlete and he’s going to give you his best effort, but he clearly has bad passing mechanics.

The funny thing? As bad as Tebow’s mechanics were, he still played better than Brady Quinn.
Yeah, what happened? I don’t want college football, so I’ve never seen anything but inept Quinn in the NFL.
Charley Weiss talks up his ND QBs and since they play in a pro system, they are deemed more ready for the NFL.
I heard today someone say on the radio that Tim Tebow is unique, as there are so many people pulling for him to succeed, yet they are convinced he’s going to fail anyways.

So Seattle ended up trading for DE Kentwan Balmer today. Balmer stopped showing up for 49ers camp last week so he was available. We’ll see, but the cost was minimal (sixth round pick).
On one hand I can understand why people like Tebow. He is a fantastic athlete and he’s willing (like so few players are these days it seems) to give absolutely everything he has to win whatever game he’s playing in, preseason or Championship bowl game. But I think it’s blatantly obvious that he isn’t a QB. As many have pointed out he reverted to his windmill delivery about three plays into his time on the field. He still loves to stare down receivers and even the guys on Cinci’s third team were picking up on it. But I think his biggest problem, and Denver’s problem in general, is that McDaniels let him line up in the shotgun when he was making the majority of his throws. He’s still not being asked to run a proper traditional offense and it’s doing him no favors. Hopefully the Broncos will wizen up and punt McDaniels back to New England and bring in a real coach. I think Tebow could be a starter in the NFL, but he needs a coach who will drill the bad out of him and not stop until the old Tebow is completely dead.

I think you’ll find the cost wasn’t worth it, unless Pete Carroll is a better motivator than Mike Singletary. Balmer’s a guy you almost never notice in a game. He doesn’t penetrate, he doesn’t collapse the pocket, he doesn’t get off blocks and make tackles on running plays. The rumour is he left the team because he was upset that Davis and Iupati were “given” starting jobs as rookies while he was never able to crack the starting lineup. But he also never showed any sign of being worth a starting job.
In other Niner news, sixth round RB Anthony Dixon is a load, and has already erased all memory of Glen Coffee. On one play he stiff-armed a DB and lifted him right off his feet. Alex Smith still sucks though, that kind of casts a pall over any other improvement on the team.
