I love NFL football. It’s far and away my favorite sport to follow. And I’ve been watching it for a long time. I remember watching the Chiefs beat the Vikings in the Superbowl. That’s how far back my NFL love goes.
Yeah, I’m a pretty big fan, too. Obviously, I know all the players on my own team. But I know the main players on pretty much every team, and a few minor ones on most of them. I used to have a lot more of that knowledge, but I haven’t been playing fantasy football the last couple of years.

Yeah I’ve been a fan since Roger Staubach went to his first Superbowl with the Cowboys. I’ve been a Raider fan since my favorite aunt who was a Raider fan passed away in 1981 and I picked up her torch.
I tied to win two pick’em leagues last year and won outright a third, so I think I know my football. I want to increase my winning percentage this year to 75%. It’ll take more research but I think I’m up for it!! :)

I dare say the Raiders offense looked competent on that first drive.

<sigh> <Sigh> <SIGH> Now we may have a badly injured QB. They are describing it as a ‘stinger’. Hopefully more information will be coming later.
Cardinals looked very much improved today against the Bears.
Anderson started, and while he definitely made much better decisions and throws, he still has trouble with his accuracy. Still, drove the ball well down field, got a touchdown with Stephen Williams, who’s definitely a lock for the team.
Leinart came in for the two-minute drill at the end of the first half, had a nice drive going, but a Beanie Wells fumble-but-not-but-call-stood-after-review bullshit ended with no score. Leinart did, however, get another another good drive going in the third quarter that resulted in a hell of a Breaston TD. Definitely going to make some highlights.
Cardinals defense continues to look better, with an improving secondary and outstanding depth on the defensive line. Main reason I’m confident in the Cards this season, regardless of who’s at QB.
Other notes: Offensive line is meshing better, but still has some work to do. Stephen Williams, can’t say enough about him, is a lock on the team; another undrafted wideout, Max Komar, looks too valuable to give up, and definitely won’t sneak past to the practice squad. Rookie QBs John Skelton and Max Hall definitely look slick, and with the question still ongoing in the position, the Cardinals might end up carrying four QBs on the roster.
The Lions offense looked really, really good again tonight–Best tore it up on the first drive, after which they used Smith at HB for the rest of the half (he’s nowhere near as good – Best will be getting a LOT of touches this year).
To make up for that, their defense was (as expected) terrible.
I’d plan on seeing more big plays from Lions games on the weekly wrapups than you’re used to this year. (big plays from both teams, naturally)
Patrick Willis just likes to hit QBs! It’s his thing!
IIRC, 12 men on the field is called as delay of game.
One thing I forgot to mention was the play of Tim Hightower, who looked as if he didn’t like the talk about Beanie being the star back. He seemed to be emulating Beanie and was just powering it up the field, knocking down would-be tacklers.

So, Seattle fans… how are you feeling about your first round draft pick right now?
He also tattooed Percy Harvin. Nice hit there.

Thomas is one of the few highlights so far. The “rebuilt” offense is still sputtering, though considering the state of the offensive line they did pretty well against the Vikings pass rush tonight. But the defense is particularly interesting to watch given that despite Carroll being a defensive coach, he really hasn’t made as many changes as you might expect. Other then the addition of Thomas and some different guys on the line, the defense (including the coordinator) is unchanged from last year.
That pick fell right in his hands after a bobble. I love Thomas as a player, but that was not an amazing play or anything. It was an easy INT and a terrible play by the WR.

The Jets released Laveranues Coles today, which I find kind of surprising. I guess they like what they’re seeing out of David Clowney. Their WR corp is pretty deep.

Also, whoa. The Bengals released Antonio Bryant.
Before cutting him, Bengals gave Antonio Bryant a four-year, $28 million contract with just under $8 million guaranteed.

Looks like McNabb may miss the Redskins opener. Apparently Grossman won’t even play in the final preseason game to insure he’s, at least, healthy.
They had quite a few WRs on their roster, didn’t they? With T.O. coming in someone was due to be odd-man out.
Also Donte Stallworth out 8 weeks with a broken foot. Enjoy those double teams, Anquan Boldin!
Talisker, every time you bring up Jahvid Best, I think of this.
I was watching that game live (Terps alum here).
Well, Stallworth was slated to be the #3 anyways. Starting opposite from Boldin is 85 year old Derrick Mason. Well, to be fair, Mason did catch 73 passes and have 1,000 yards last year (more catches and yards than Stallworth has ever had in his career). He’s old, but can still play; Mason has had 70+ catches and 1,000 yards in 8 of the past 9 seasons. Totally underappreciated WR imho.
All he doesn’t do is catch TD passes.

Yep. And he’d been injured in practice to the point where he wasn’t going to be able to contribute this year.
A lot of us Texas fans were afraid that Quan Cosby would get the axe (since he’s basically a shorter, older version of Shipley), but with Bryant’s injury and Cosby’s highlight-reel catch yesterday, it looks like the Bengals are going to be able to keep him.

Niiiiiiiice. One of my favorite NFL players of all time is a Terp, so I admit a bit of a soft spot for 'em.
