I think Bradford is good. He got sacked 7 times and knocked down some other times and his receivers had at least 5-6 drops. You could see the frustration on Bradford’s face when his receivers dropped his passes.

From what I’ve seen he’s accurate and poised and can throw well on the run. So far, he hasn’t developed happy feet, but I fear that may be coming if they don’t get him some help.

As to getting rid of the OC, it’s Josh McDaniel’s and he has a history of success with offenses. It’s too soon to pull the plug, though if the team goes something like 3-13 I can see the entire staff getting the heave-ho.

OK time for a first quarter Raider report since I never did do the initial one:

I give the Raiders a B-. Overall, the team has certainly improved since the horrific times of JaMarcus Russell. The defense is the biggest problem. Lack of pass rushing, not covering open receivers, getting beat on plays, all of this is happening way too often. I don’t know if it’s the players themselves and their lack of talent or if it’s the clear lack of discipline in their play. I think the defense in particular suffers from all the defensive penalties. It seems like every time they have a major defensive penalty, they then give up a big offensive play. And I think what’s happening is the defense just takes plays off. Why bust your ass when some fool on the defense is just going to get called for a penalty anyway? Hue Jackson must get discipline into the defense otherwise he and his team won’t be going to the playoffs this year. It’s just that simple. Without discipline it’s impossible to judge the actual talent they have on defense. I don’t know if he can do it, or how he’s going to do it, but it must be done. I’m not even going to discuss run defense and pass defense, it’s irrelevant until they get rid of the penalties.

The offense is basically in much better shape. They get called for far fewer penalties too. Jason Campbell (I and others call him Soup) is developing as a QB. Some say he manages a game and has no real talent, but I would disagree. First off, he was the 10th best QB last week and the 12th best this week, better than Phillip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger, and no one says they manage games. Yes, he hands off to McFadden, but that doesn’t necessarily diminish him as a QB. If Brady had McFadden or Adrian Peterson to hand off to, that wouldn’t change Brady as a QB so why should it change Soup?

Soup has thrown for more than 300 yards twice this year, both in losing causes (which at least one of can be pinned directly to the defense) and only has three INT’s. So I’m cautiously optimistic with him. They have an awesome receiving core which will only get better next year. This is the last year of guaranteed money for Heyward-Bey, which should result in either him getting cut or at least off the top of the WR depth chart. I can’t wait. Yesterday he missed a cut which resulted in the INT in the end zone. He dropped a ball that hit him right in the chest which would have resulted in a first down. He’s the worst WR they have without a doubt. If they got rid of him, Soup would get even better.

And of course our number one most awesome of awesomeness RB, Darren McFadden, otherwise known as Run DMC. Run DMC even has me rooting for Arkansas, an SEC team, I’m just that impressed with him:). Dude wants to play, he wants to run, and Hue Jackson let’s him do exactly that. I really see him as a great fit on this developing team. It’s always comforting for a team to know they have someone who can handle the ball, catch the ball and even do a little blocking if needed, particularly for the chaos that the Raiders team can be.

Nothing much needs to be said about the kicking game except that it kicks ass. It’s unfortunate that Seabass apparently chose to abuse a woman but he’ll pay the price and I would not be surprised to see him lose some games because of it. And our punter Lechler has surpassed the great Ray Guy in punting, something I would have thought impossible.

I pegged the Raiders at 9-7 at the start of the year and I really don’t see why they won’t get there. They might make a couple more games, or fall short by one but I really do think they’ll have a winning season finally. They have the parts, they just need the attention, focus and discipline to get over the losing hump.

*Oh and for the record I think the Raiders miss Woodson much more than they’ll ever miss Asomugha.

Switching OCs on Bradford in only his second year with the lockout, and having that OC be Josh McDaniels whom I assume has a complex playbook has made Bradford and the Rams O take a step back. They might be able to get it going at some point but NFL history is littered with promising QBs nerfed by having to try to learn a new system every year.

I wouldn’t call that a dumb pick. Seattle is still pretty good at home and the Falcons haven’t looked all that convincing on the road. If Turner hadn’t finally woken up I don’t think they would have won that game either.

I tend to agree but I will say this, Jason Garrett why are you calling passing plays on first down when you have a big lead in the second half?

No other explanation for the last two wins. This team can hold together and make enough plays to win. It may not be pretty but they do it. They remind me of the Titans when they first moved to Tennessee. Scrappy and playing better than anyone expects.

I was gonna call this last week but Kenny Britt’s injury made me second guess it, but I think the Titans are gonna win the AFC South. The Texans just seem to want to lose still, and if Andre is out for any length of time, forget it.

People are giving their defense a hard time but I don’t care, best team in the NFC and maybe the league.

lol

Defense and a solid ground game that they need to stop forgetting about.

Garrett has Romo on his fantasy team? Other than that I’ve got nothing.

I’ll just leave this here.

How many more games does the Viking coach get before he gets fired?

The wailing and gnashing of teeth of the fans and media in Philadelphia here is pretty awesome to behold.

I love it. I am not a sports hater by nature but I can’t help it with Philly losing to SF.

What a day for Philly fans. Both the Eagles and the Phillies blow comfortable leads.

I’d hate to see Bradford fall to that sort of shit, because he looked like he really had something last year. I have not been a big fan of McDaniels since his time with the Broncos. I am still not enamored.

I don’t know. It felt like they had nothing. So much I gave up watching and turned to other games. I only turned back when I saw they had gotten close. Their offense is just…stumbling, bumbling…but not into the endzone, mostly just into ineptitude.

Well, to be fair, I don’t know if they like running it in Dallas. Jones looks good at times, but he seems more of a draw play type guy than a between the tackles and after Barber quit getting yards last year, they seemed to shy away from the run all together.

Bu yes, you are completely right. Teams seem to be highly entranced with the passing the game and not doing ball control as a priority so far this year.

I’m excited for them and they aren’t even my team. I don’t know if it’s because he manages to hold on each and every year, but I’m happy for Smith to have success and I am definitely pulling for both Harboughs just because they are fun guys as coaches. Much like the Rex brothers, but more serious.

Almost all defenses are having a hard time this year. The Packers D will get a bit better as the year goes on I think. They definitely have a lot of talent. Their offense… I still can only think wow.

Hey guys I took photos of Ben Roethlisberger and Chad Henne, morphed them together and gave it Kurt Cobain’s hair what do you think

I think of him as Kevin Greene’s younger brother who’s a bit on the slow side.

Hasselbeck doesn’t change much in Seattle. They might be a little better, but it’s not like Tavaris Jackson has been the disaster everyone said he would be. His QB rating is 80.0, which basically the same as what Orton, McNabb, Roethlisberger, and Flacco have. Hasselbeck is obviously having a much better year, but that’s as much to do with the better team (particularly offensive line and running threat) and so far easier schedule he has in Tennessee. The last time Hasselbeck had a rating over 80 in Seattle was 2007.

I’m not pining for Hasselbeck. In fact, I’m happy for the guy that he’s going to have the chance to end his career on a high note.

What the hell IS that?

I am definitely happy for him. It’s just hard to see the team give away such a good QB when they gave him away for a… stop gap? shrugs

The Packers defense scares me, because so far in the season, they’ve been doing that thing where they give up 18 zillion yards and let the team march down the field at will, and then somehow keep them to a field goal. Which is fine, if you can guarantee that you’ll keep doing that. But as often as not, teams that do “bend, but don’t break” are just teams with bad defenses that were getting lucky, and they start breaking before too long.

The defense should be really good, but they don’t get much pressure on the offense, they don’t tackle well, and the secondary routinely gets burned for big plays. Woodson is unabashedly excellent, and B.J. Raji is solid on the line, but other than that, not a whole lot going on. Even Clay Matthews has been a non-factor this year.

They didn’t “give him away,” they just decided to not sign him for another few years. From a longer term point of view what they did will hopefully make sense, but Hasselbeck wanted more of a committment then the Seahawks were willing to offer. And he’s making more this year in Nashville then Jackson and Whitehurst combined, with next year guaranteed as well. By next year Seattle’s QB situation should be completely different, and keeping Hasselbeck around would have made that transition a lot more difficult.

Now if they end up with another stopgap situation next year then it will be time to really complain.

Doesn’t he look a bit like Jeremy Shockey?

Like a 20-pounds-heavier Derek Jeter in a wig.

Seattle’s main problem is it’s O-line. If Hasslebeck were still in Seattle he’d probably be injured by this point.
