Why did Carolina call that timeout?

Carolina just called an awful, awful timeout that let the Saints squeak in a field goal before the half.

I logged in just to ask the same thing. Really weird call by Carolina.

I have no idea. I don’t think it came from the coach though.
…and Philly shows yet another example of poor clock management.

Boy, the Eagles have put on a clinic in bad playcalling at the end of this half.
With 3:30 to go and 3rd and 4 at the Bills 37, I thought the Eagles were in 4 down territory. You’re not kicking a FG from there, and 9 times out of 10 a punt will go into the end zone for a touchback and an almost pointless change of yardage. But they throw an incompletion on 3rd down, and sure enough, punt the ball into the end zone on 4th. For a team trailing by 2 TD’s, I absolutely hate that play.
So now the Eagles have the ball on the Bills 27 with 13 seconds to go and no time outs. What are you trying to accomplish? Take a shot at the end zone, or better FG position? Both are fine, but you can’t take forever or get sacked. And they throw an incompletion to DSJ with 8 seconds left, and on 3rd down Vick stands in the pocket forever, throws the ball out of the end zone and time runs out without getting a FG attempt.
Not good.
That and that derpy onside kick thing they just tried.

And their godawful tackling isn’t helping. They’re kinda screwed.
Okay, just saw NO called for roughing the passer.
There was no helmet use as a weapon, no high hit, and the ball hadn’t even left Newton’s hand–he ended up throwing it straight up because of the impact.
Yet NO is called for roughing.
Why don’t they just go ahead and put fucking red jerseys on the QBs and make it illegal to defend them at all? Its ridiculous.

Nice reception by Foster, too bad he couldn’t get the TD too.

Yeah I really hate how they protect QBs now, though I agree with flagging for any hit to the head, even if its incidental for any player.

Great, we’ve got the Charlie Whitehurst Experience going now. Seahawks played well most of this game, but then commited boneheaded errors that cost them a lot of points.

Argh! Such bullshit. That and legitimate penalties have killed NO on that drive.
I can’t tell if the Saints’ defense is bad or the Panthers’ offense is good. Carolina’s offense looks pretty good to me but New Orleans’ tackling still sucks.
Completely agree on that play. That’s not roughing the passer at all.

It’s still a tied game so don’t panic yet (oh wait, it isn’t). We’ll see what Whitehurst can do.

Glad they got nothing from the play. All season long, the DB’s have continually missed assignments for the Raiders. Not a good start for Rod Woodson as a CB coach.

I’m watching the Raiders game and I still can’t fathom how they are in this, quite possibly going to go ahead here shortly. They’ve played poorly, had a zilion penalties. Though Janikowski is a stud if ever a kicker was one (now watch, he’ll miss a field goal just after I post this).
Edit: Nope, he nailed another one.
Now that was helmet to helmet.

What a catch by Victor Cruz. Beat those damn Seahawks!
