The Niners own Jim Harbaugh owns please keep secret the fact that you replaced Alex Smith with an alien who looks like him except has the ability to play football. Frank Gore keep finding ways to get pissed off so you play well. Defense you rock, the Niners lead the lead in turnover margin I may faint

The NFC West is certainly not what I expected at this point. The 49ers look pretty good, the Seahawks are sort of ok, the Cardinals suck, and the Rams really really suck.
Pending injuries, of course.
As for the Seahawks, its interesting that once Sidney Rice got healthy they started being able to run the ball. Lynch had 98 yards today, for example. And Whitehurst looked pretty decent, so if Tavaris can’t go next game with his “strained pectoral” injury (WTF?), then things might be better then I expected this year. And after the bye week they play at Cleveland, host Cincinatti, at Dallas, host Baltimore, so not an impossible schedule.
I’m not saying I think Seattle will win the division, but the 49ers have a tougher schedule the next five weeks: at Detroit, bye, Cleveland, at Washington, Giants.

Seemed kind of really weird…

I think you made a mistake, that should be win, bye, win, win, win. Seriously though, there are no teams on the schedule I can’t seem them pull a win out against. They’ll lose some games but I give up on trying to predict who that will be.
I feel the same about the Redskins and Rex Grossman. There are no teams on the schedule we can’t lose to with a couple key bonehead mistakes.
If the regular season ended today, the Niners would be the #2 seed.
I’d love to see a NFC championship game between the Lions and Forty Niners. Talk about a feel good story no matter who wins.

Lengthy Michael Silver/Yahoo! piece on the relocation issues now in play with Al Davis’ passing.

I think one of the most stunning developments through 5 weeks is that the Alex Smith-led 49ers are probably going to run away with the NFC West.
I really thought the Rams would contend for the division, but they’ve been beaten down by a brutal schedule. Meanwhile, at 4-1, the 49ers are almost guaranteed a 9-7 season, a record it seems doubtful the Seahawks, Rams or Cards can reach at this point.
They probably won’t get a bye – I assume the Packers and Saints will end up with the top 2 seeds – but a 3 or 4 seed seems well within their grasp.
You could get a really interesting wild card matchup, where a #4 seed 49ers face off against a #5 seed Lions. Who, as it turns out, play each other next week. :)
Not to be a homer but I have to agree. The Lions and Bills being good is not too big of a shock, I don’t think. The Niners? They could be winless with serious of talk of Colin Kaepernick starting by now and it would have been less of a surprise (I said Kaepernick would be playing by week 5, I didn’t know I was right in that he’d take over in a blowout ^__^ ).
I did too, and I am totally going to lose your over/under thread after taking the Niners under and Rams over. Also the Rams are getting burned by injuries and having to learn Josh McDaniels’ system.
Yeah. With the wide-openness of the NFC East and erratic play of all 4 teams therein a 3 seed wouldn’t shock me for the Niners. And I have to say after that Tampa Bay shellacking they have a good chance of winning the Wild Card game and advancing. Which, even if they lost then, would be such an overwhelming achievement for this hapless franchise that they’d name a street after Harbaugh. I know, it’s a long season etc. but they sure get better every week, seems like.
Heehee, yes. I was thinking about that very thing. Playing the Lions, Bears, Falcons or whoever comes in second in the East.

I, like a lot of other people, were excited about the Lions before the season and thought this year might be a nice step forward.
But not only did I not forsee the Bills being good, I’m still not convinced they actually are. I feel the same way about them as I did with the Indians earlier this year: They’re off to an amazing start, and playing way better than I expected, but I’m still not sold that they’re for real. I need to see them keep winning a while longer before I really buy into them.
As for the Niners, is it all Harbaugh? Did he just whip this team into shape so they’re not beating themselves any more?

^^^ Yeah they need to win against some good defenses, something they haven’t done yet. The Patriots and Raiders defenses are in the bottom third of the league. When the Bills did encounter a good defense they lost. So they need to show me something before I’m a believer.

I knew the bills would be good this year! I picked up Fitzpatrick and a bunch of their younger recievers in my dynasty league.
Good call.

I think it’s 40% Harbaugh being a good coach, and 60% that the players are just ecstatic to have somebody who knows WTF he’s doing, and isn’t going to take off his pants in his postgame speech anytime soon.
We finally get a play without a flag.
Omg I’m going to go on a referee murdering spree.

This offensive line is horrible. I don’t think Jay Cutler’s been able to set his feet yet this year.
(Not that he would if he could, but still.)
