The Bengals are 4-2 without him. They’d almost certainly be 4-2 with him, maybe worse if you look at last year. They appear to have a competitive team right now with their defense.
As much as I’d love an SC QB for the Raiders, I am not expecting that to happen.

Seahawks just put Marcus Trufant, their best CB, on IR.

So if I’m reading that right, he wouldn’t be a UFA until 2015. Ouch! I wonder what would happen if he showed up? Of course, with tons of money in the bank that’s a headache he probably doesn’t care about.

If he had shown up before the first game the Bengals would have been on the hook for his full salary. Not sure what happens if he shows up now.

Yeah, that’s an interesting question. It seems like you’d have to pay him or cut him. They’d probably hand him a baseball cap, but if he was costing them money they’d probably be more likely to move him.

Just announced that the Lions-Niners coaches will not be fined. Good.

According to Clayton (who thought they should have been fined) they both were contacted by the commish’s office and apologized profusely and promised not to do it again so they were given a pass.
Oh come on, is the guy that clueless? It’s obviously gamesmanship. Notice how he’s still careful not to apologize for it, rather he takes responsibility. He’s obviously fucking with Schwartz.
Or, hand him a football, because he’s Carson Palmer and your franchise quarterback. If he played awful intentionally, I’m pretty sure the Bengals would have a law suit.

Could be. However, Dalton looks like the real deal. (And AJ Green is a star in the making.) If you could turn Palmer into a #1 pick, especially with the new CBA rules, that would be what I would do. Also, the Raiders are crazy and desperate.

If that were true, at least three teams would have pending lawsuits against Randy Moss.

Well, it didn’t take long for Matt Moore to show us how awful he is.
On 3rd and inches, he has a RB running wide open with no coverage whatsoever in the left flat for an easy 10 yard gain. All he has to do is float it over a lineman for an easy first down. He looks right at the guy and instead opts to throw deeper down the left side to a covered receiver, who drops the ball.
Matt Moore to Revis, 100 yard touchdown pass*!
- And by pass, I mean interception return.

hey look! There’s Brandon Marshall wide open! He’s got him for a touchdown!
Except wait, I think I’ll JUST RUN OUT OF BOUNDS HERE.
The Dolphins should be wininng this game 20-0 right now. It’s comical how they keep finding ways to blow easy scores.

I can’t find a picture, but those fans dressed as Rex Ryan are awesome.

That was a brutally bad game all around.

Looking at the NFL QB Ratings so far is pretty interesting. Along with Alex Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick, we see maligned starters Eli Manning and Tony Romo in the top 10. Not to mention Curtis Painter (admittedly limited play), who seems to be telling us the Colts really blew it handing the job to Collins to start the season.
In the middle of the pack we see some big names, like Rivers, Ryan and Vick. And then at the bottom of the top 30 QBs are some supposedly “up and coming” young guys, like Bradford, Kolb, Freeman, and Newton.
It’s interesting the tale the stats tell compared to our and the media’s perceptions about these players.
That is ranking the quarterbacks by “passing efficiency” though, which is a stat that rarely tells the entire story. Particularly as the game of football has undergone some subtle changes in recent years which these articles I recently read discuss:
Cam Newton (if I just read the stat page correctly) has 6 rushing touch downs. That is points on the board as surely as if he had thrown for them, and he probably deserves more credit for them because there is no receiver to share credit with (O-line as always gets overlooked). Yet, those plays are considered “runs” and therefore are not reflected in the quarter back rating. Which is fine if you want a stat that isolates quarterbacks ability to pass, but it is a horrendous oversight if you want the stat to accurately rate quarterbacks.
The Quarterback rating stat is based on only 4 things: Completion percentage, average yards, touchdown percentage, and interception percentage. The only one I don’t think is majorly flawed is interception percentage. For example, completion percentages can be inflated by easy passes (behind the line scrimage, to the ‘safety valve’).
There are other deficiencies with the Quarterback rating that I could go into, but suffice it to say I’d trust the reporters hyping based on the eye test before I’d trust the quarterback rating stat to tell the “real” story.

I’m not claiming its perfect, but its better then ESPN’s “QBR” thing as far as I can tell. And as a quick and easy way to see who is doing well and who isn’t it does a decent job.
I’m always dubious about claims for young QBs anyway. Some have looked good early and never amounted to much in the long run.
