Yeah it’s supposed to be boner pills and pickup trucks exclusively.
This gives a good rundown. You hope the guy comes back from it if you look at the complications from surgery.
I know the Vikings aren’t trying any more, but Matt Flynn actually looks pretty good. Based on this series so far, there’s at least a dozen teams he could start for.
Jebus, Vikes. You can’t stop anything tonight, can you?
Can the Packers run the table and repeat? They look pretty damn good so far.
Stat of the day: Green Bay backup QB Matt Flynn completed as many passes as Tebow (though it only took him two attempts instead of eight), and ran for as many touchdowns.

Well we’ll see when the monumental playoff game of the '49’ers versus the Packers comes off. Aaron Rodgers is just crazy on third down though, that’s why you can’t stop them.
Yeesh, 45-7???
So are the Vikes still the fave to become the next Minnesota team with purple and gold colors to move to LA?

The momentum seems to be turning to keep them in Minnesota now. The state may be able to force them to stay another year because of some clause in the lease that was triggered by last year’s roof collapse, but either way the politicians sound like they will find some way to pay for the part of the new stadium costs. That could change, of course, but the stuff I’m reading now is more focused on the belief that the Chargers are the likely team to move since absolutely nothing is happening there and they’ve been year to year on their lease for some time.

He was on some people’s wishlist last offseason, but I guess the Packers figured they’re so ridiculously stacked already that they didn’t need anything they could trade him for. I doubt he’ll still be there next year, though. Somebody’s going to make a Kevin Kolb offer.

This is the final year of his contract. He has a good chance of being the top free agent QB available.
Hearing about Flynn reminds me of the sad and crazy non-career of Brian Brohm. I remember when he was touted as the likely #1 overall pick, then he opted (worst decision ever) to stay an extra year in college, saw his stock drop to a 2nd rounder, couldn’t beat out Flynn in camp as a backup to Rodgers, then couldn’t win a job with the Bills…and then went on to the UFL.

It’s crazy how the Packers can’t hold on to their quality backups. Hasselbeck, Brunell… at least they were able to play Rodgers.
(And by “crazy” I mean, not really crazy. Obviously starting-caliber QBs, never mind Pro Bowl-caliber QBs like those, aren’t going to just sit around being backups. But still, it’d be nice.)
What’s crazy about the Packers is how they’ve managed to have so many backups that have gone on to become starters, and good starters to boot. Most backups are more in the Charley Whitehurst mold – some ability, but probably not the guy you want as your long-term starter.
My theory – since the Packers have changed many coaches, OCs, etc. during the time period of backups/training-camp-rejects that went on to be starters elsewhere (we have to remember Warner and Brooks as well, and even Ty Detmer and Doug Pederson who had short stints as starters elsehwere) – is that Favre was so durable in that stretch that the backups had the luxury of developing and practicing without a lot of pressure, and then got a huge number of reps in the preseason as well, which allowed them to develop at a leisurely pace. Same goes for Rodgers too.
I think that’s a big part of it, but then another part is Ron Wolf.
All those guys (not including Rodgers) were drafted by Wolf, plus of course Wolf traded for Favre.
Article from the Indianapolis Star on the Colt’s front office. If this is true (the writer does use a lot of off-the-record stuff in the article), it paints a pretty bad picture of the organization.

He makes a pretty solid point, though. If Chris Polian was just a guy, nobody would be considering him for the GM job. And if Chris Polian was actually worth hiring he wouldn’t be with the Colts, he’d be out of his dad’s shadow, earning his own reputation. Note the difference in paths between the Harbaughs and say, Kyle Shanahan or Mike Singletary’s cousin.
The classic 49ers organization was like that. After all, Steve Young was a backup, and then you also had Elvis Grbac who developed in the shadow of Joe Montana.

Seattle’s offensive line has been coming together recently, giving up only 2 sacks total in the last two games against Dallas and Baltimore. But in the Ravens game rookie right guard Moffitt tore two knee ligaments and is out for the season. And in practice the other day rookie right tackle Carpenter tore his ACL and is out for the year as well. So in a week they’ve lost two starters at the position they need to see develop for the team to improve.
One step forward, two steps back this year.
