The classic 49ers organization was like that. After all, Steve Young was a backup, and then you also had Elvis Grbac who developed in the shadow of Joe Montana.

That was pre-free agent/salary cap days though. You could have a well paid back-up at every position if you wanted to pay for it. Now the drop off from starter to back-up in many positions is pretty steep.

I hate to admit it Brandon, but I do find this game interesting. I’ve mocked Tebow as much as the next guy, but I sort of want him to succeed to shut up the haters (like me) and prove that you don’t have to be a stand tall robot like Manning or a human cyborg like Rogers to be a good NFL quarterback.

I don’t expect this to happen, but it would be kind of cool if it did. Tebow is just a different kind of dude, I’ve made fun of the “all he does is win” crowd for years, but damn…as horrible as he appears to be for 90% of his NFL playing time, he sure gets a lot done in the other 10%.

No! It’s a wildly exciting quarterback duel to the death! Except for all the running plays, option attempts, horrible passing by one QB (surprise it was Sanchez!!!)

Fun to watch if you love football, clusterfuck if you prefer no defense Pac-10 style football.

It’s pretty awful. The Broncos keep pinning the Jets inside their 20, the Jets can’t move the ball, the Broncos get the ball back near midfield, they can’t move the ball, they punt it back to the 20. It’s pretty dull.

There are plenty of other QBs that aren’t pure pocket passers that have had success, but even the worst of them was a better passer than Tebow.

Tebow isn’t any different than any other great option QB that has come into the NFL, with the possible exception of being bigger.
