I’ll take your trollbait.
Tebow irks me just as much as the next liberal atheist but trying to slander people as unknowledgeable about football because they think he isn’t a bad QB isn’t a winning argument. Back in ye ole days of football Tebow would be considered an excellent QB, just not the passing kind. I think people who look at Tebow’s abysmal stats may be the ones who understand just enough about football, but maybe not everything about football. It’s popular to say that today’s game is all about passing, and it’s easy to make a case for that. But it’s not at all foreign to football to have QBs that are rushing threats rather than passing threats. It’s just hard to imagine that formula succeeding today. I think anyone that gives Tebow a credit will agree that he could not win games without the rest of the team creating opportunities. Is Tebow the kind of QB you want in today’s game? No. Is he bad? I don’t know. I think it remains to be seen. Far too much is made of the QB position as the one and only that can lead a team to victory. If Tebow doesn’t throw picks, yet still manages to produce a drive every now and then, then why is that necessarily bad?

The king is dead, long live the king.

Or, in the NFL’s case, Just Win Baby is dead, long live Just Wins.

I’m more embarrassed for the Jets than I was for KC.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. :)

Honestly, I don’t know what to make of Tebow. He certainly isn’t throwing the ball well, which, you know, is kind of important for a QB. He looks awful and lost most of the time, but he has other abilties that other QB’s don’t have.

It’s been said by several people in the NFL threads, myself included, that Tebow and this triple option thing is kind of a novelty, like the wildcat. Before long, teams will figure out how to shut it down and anyone who can score 17 points will win by default.

“Tebow is anything less than a bad quarterback”. I can’t even parse that. As in, are you saying that he’s a bad QB or a good QB?

STOP PICKING ON ME! (see correction above)

Sorry, didn’t hit refresh before posting so I didn’t see the others creep in in the 20 minutes after I opened the thread in a new tab!

Pretty much. He’s a bit of an odd novelty. As far as I can tell he’s early-career Michael Vick, only not nearly as good a passer as Vick (who sucked). He has some impressive physical gifts, but that’s about it.

Honestly today’s game makes me wonder about the Jets more than the Broncos. I’ve been suspecting the Jets are somewhat soft, and IMO the past two weeks have exposed them. They have a good defense (though IMO it’s somewhat overrated) and a below average offense. I’ve also decided (along with like 500000 other people) that Sanchez is not the QB who is going to take the Jets to the Super Bowl. He’s in his third season and still making dipshit errors.

From a statistical standpoint, the Jets defense is notably worse then last year. You are talking about a team that was 3rd best against the pass last year (in yardage terms) and also 3rd best against the run. This year they are 8th against the pass and 15th against the run. In 2009 they were first in both categories. That’s a pretty big dropoff. Then you have a rushing offense that went from 4th best last year but is 24th this year so far. So even if Sanchez hasn’t improved, the rest of the team around him seems to be going backwards.

A better Sanchez would help, but I don’t think he’s the reason they are 5-5 and defensively struggling.

Welp, I’m a believer. Raiders better keep winning games, this division isn’t going to just get handed to them.

Until Tebow runs the triple-option out of the wishbone I’m not gonna … holee shit, who am I kidding. We have a team running option-football in the NFL, and winning. I just don’t understand how one of the leagues best defenses can’t stop the option. Unbelievable.

As I understand it, this wasn’t an option. Tebow saw the blitz and audibled a bootleg.

Never agree to do shots based on a Tim Tebow game.

The Jets did shut down the Broncos offense for most of the game. No idea what happened to them on that last drive, and that last play the safety just made a real bonehead play.

Lost in the Tebow mania is that their team is winning football games, not to mention Von Miller is an impressive player. The Jets offense is just bad, although it didn’t help Green went out early. Unless the Bengals collapse, it’s sina nora (Sayonara* oops) Jets. Which as a Pat’s fan is satisfying (although blasphemy it is I kinda like Rex Ryan.)

You really have to tip your cap to the Bronco’s coaching staff. I thought Fox was a bad hire, but he and the staff is putting the players in a position to win, however unconventional it is. It really does put Denver in a pickle though, as I’m hugely skeptical this kind of offense can win consistently.

Leaving the issue of Tebow aside for the minute: I was shocked at how bad the Jets looked tell the truth.

And I was also saddened to hear about “10 time Pro Bowler Champ Bailey” because the FRICKING REDSKINS NEVER SHOULD HAVE TRADED HIM %$#*%$#%##

Sayonara? :-)

Haha that’s embarrassing. But thanks ;)

Correct. That play isn’t an option-play. I was being astounded in a more general way. A rookie QB has completed 11 passes over two NFL games and won them both. By running zone-read and option plays. In the NFL.

The Jets are awful. Sanchez has always been awful. But they are probably stuck with him for another year or so. He’s just terrible. I’ve always been amazed whenever anyone says otherwise (though that’s becoming more and more rare). He’s not even a good game manager. How many pick 6s can one QB throw?

As for your second point, what makes it worse is that they did the trade to get a RB. Damn, that’s stupid.

The hate flowing in this thread is funny.

Money quote (from the 2008 analysis above):

“Final Verdict: Champ Bailey may be struggling this year but he is so good I guarantee he will get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on his first try. I can’t do that for Clinton Portis. Even if he wins the MVP this year.”
