THE HALEY wants to know if he can activate Kyle Orton at halftime.
My experience with people who excel at something, then get in a position to manage other people in that same role, is that they usually look for a new version of themselves.
Since Tebow, whatever he is, is not the new Elway I’d be surprised if Elway had any intention of using Tebow beyond this season no matter how the Broncos do with him.

A QB that only completes 2 passes for a game is not a QB a team can rely on. Sure the wildcat looked great for a season, but not so much once teams get serious time to look at the film. Same thing is going to be with Tebow. And if the Chargers didn’t suck so bad, they would have won that game anyway.

So this was the problem with the Chargers kicking game

Umm… Rivers is way off his career average, but his QB rating is still higher than Tebow’s.
Dear God, if KC loses this game, that insane megaderp on third down is going to be a big culprit. How do you get tackled by your own teammate?
The trick is that Tebow doesn’t have enough attempts (average of 14 per game) to qualify for the QB rating charts.

I know the throw was a prayer, but Bowe should be ashamed.

I thought that was a very solid end drive. C’mon Bowe.
I thought the worst part of that was #88 was moving to block a nonexistent defender behind the runner, instead of turning upfield. It’s like he made an early decision “I’m moving over there” and wasn’t going to be perturbed by mere trivialities, such as tackling his own guy.
I listen to sports radio all week at my desk at work and nothing is better than a week after Tebow wins for this exact reason. Everyone thinks they are the only guy criticizing Tebow.
It’s hard to compare Tebow to other QBs in some ways because Denver is running a different offense.
I also wonder just how much defenses can adapt to Denver’s option offense? When the rest of the league is playing a passing offense where the QB is rarely a threat to run, so you build your defense to stop that, just how easy is it to change to stop a run-first offense that features the QB as a bruising RB?
Anyway, if Elway decides he doesn’t want Tebow I’m sure a few other teams will give him a workout.
lol I don’t really see that happening, they don’t have a really have any kind of real backup for Tebow since they dumped Orton (which is kinda dumb, at least they could have kept him for the rest of the season and drafted someone later).
As for teams not knowing how to figure him out till next year, I don’t buy it. Coordinators are really good at figuring offenses out (it’s the execution that’s the problem), and most teams adapt really well (Easterbrook noted that teams adapted to Cam Newton really quickly and were able to frustrate him a lot). Tebow is already six games in. It’s not like teams haven’t seen the wildcat before. I think the difference here is that Tebow can throw, and throw decently. As long as he can do it when depended on, does it matter if he completes 2 or 20 passes?

The only metric by which he’s better than Newton is interceptions.

The fact the Broncos are winning with Tebow is a testament to the other 21 guys on the field, not Tebow. Cam Newton is obviously miles ahead of Tebow, and given the Broncos’ defense and running game I’m pretty sure Newton could muster up 210 yards of offense to win a game. I’m far from convinced Tebow is capable of putting up 400 yards when his team gets behind and needs it.
There are at least 20 QBs in the league who could do more with that team than Tebow has. You want to know how to stop Tebow? Get ahead by 14 points and force him to pass.
Yards, schmards. Vince Young threw for 400 yesterday.
This is exactly it.
Simply put, it’s not Tebow that’s winning the games for Denver. What Fox is showing - whether it be accidentally or on purpose - is that a strong running game combined with a lack of turnovers and good defense still wins in the NFL.
Denver has racked up the following rushing yards since Tebow was named the starter: 177, 195, 299, 244 and 125. Part of that is due to Tebow, but a great part of that is improved blocking on the OL and a commitment to the running game even when opposing teams are loading up the box with 8 guys.
Net Defensive Points Allowed: 15, 31 (other 14 were offensive turnovers), 24, 10 and 6 (13 - 7 for Den defensive TD). That’s about 18 points per game, which is pretty damn good.
Denver hasn’t had a turnover in 4 weeks (since the Detroit game). That’s outstanding ball control.
The whole Denver offense is doing a great job by not turning the ball over, they’re running it down people’s throats (limiting the number of opponent’s offensive possessions) and their defense is keeping people out of the endzone. When it gets down to the 4th quarter, the opposing defenses are out of gas and it shows. That’s why they’re winning games late. It goes to show that even in today’s NFL, a ball control offense can still be a winning formula.
Credit for this winning streak goes to (in order):
-
The Denver defense, for simply not allowing teams to put a lot of points on the board. This allows Fox to continue to run his game plan and keeps Tebow from having to put the ball up. We saw what happens when he’s forced to do that…it was a 35 point loss. They’re playing good, hard, smart defense. I’m impressed with that group.
-
The Denver OL for excellent blocking. You don’t average over 200 yards per game rushing the ball without one hell of an OL. Even Barry Sanders couldn’t do that. So to say that it’s 70% Tebow is an absolute joke. Give these guys credit. There are holes open for all the backs (including Tebow) and they’re wearing opposing defenses down.
-
The entire offense for not turning the ball over. This includes Tebow, McGahee and everyone else. 4 games in a row without a turnover is a winning formula for any team.
-
Fox for his excellent game plans. It won’t work against elite teams, but it will work against many teams. They’ll be in most games with this kind of low-risk offense.
-
Britton Colquitt. Who? The Denver punter. Averaging 48.3 yards per punt, 17 inside the 20 and only 4 touchbacks. Field position, field position, field position.
Brett is right. Watching your heads explode is funny.
May I add, what a delightful weekend of football. There’s nothing sweeter than watching the Patriots stomp the Eagles, except watching them stomp the Jets.
Whose head is exploding? It’s just there are far more logical and obvious reasons why the Broncos are winning beyond Tebow. Probably the most accurate thing you can say about Tebow’s performance is that he hasn’t lost the games for the Broncos.
Also, the schedule has been very favorable to the Broncos.
Winless Miami coming off the bye
Destroyed by Detroit
Oakland in Carson Palmer’s first start in a year
KC in the midst of a 4 game losing streak (and Matt Cassel getting hurt)
Jets on a 4 day week after losing an emotional game to New England
San Diego in the midst of a 6 game losing streak
Coming up:
Minnesota (3 game losing streak, rookie QB)
Chicago (Cutler is out for the year)
That’s not a slap at Tebow because you can only play the teams on your schedule. But it’s been a relatively easy road, unlike the Cincy (7-4), @ Tennessee (6-5) and @ Green Bay (11-0) schedule earlier this year. It’s very conceivable that if Denver continues to play mistake-free football and runs the ball effectively, they’ll be 8-5 when New England comes to play.
Now if they are 8-5 when NE comes to visit, THAT will be an interesting game. Even though NE’s defense is downright awful, can Tebow & Co. put up the 30 points it’s going to take to beat the Patsies?
I’m not going to say Tebow is a good quarterback, but one thing you left out Blackadar is the 4th quarter / overtime comeback drives. Certainly everyone around him puts the team in that position. And they continue to execute during those drives – we’ve all seen the ridiculous amount of time Tebow has to find a receiver. But without a quarterback that can execute comeback drives, those 5 things you listed merely give Denver a bunch of close losses.
Obviously a great quarterback means they don’t need a comeback in the first place, but I don’t think anyone’s trying to put Tebow at that level.
