Fuckin Giants.

Apologies, just getting to this. I was in the car (ran out to pick up dinner) and heard it. The I guess ESPN guys were saying Coughlin was challenging the call. I didn’t consider the automatic review.

I love that Sunday Night Football is streamed in clean HD from NBC’s website, but I wish they’d just show the broadcast commercials instead of web-specific ones. I’m not sure if it’s worse watching a Chase ad for the 70th time in the game, or watching a Toyota ad for the fifth time IN A ROW.

Hello trucker.

I’m getting the two Chase ads and Subway.

Bob and weave once you’re in there.

Hell, I’m not even drunk, but GEAUX SAINTS.

They are so under the radar. It’s all Packers this and Tebow that and wtf San Fran everywhere I look.

I do wonder how Dan Marino’s feeling right about now.

Nevermind. /Emily Litella

The Saints are so two years ago. They already said all the nice stuff they could say about Drew Brees back then, now it’s time for Rodgers and (despite reality) Tebow. And despite being in basically the same situation as Tebow, nobody can really bring themselves to praise Alex Smith, which is kind of funny. The Niners are winning with defense and the running game too, they’re just better at it and don’t require fourth quarter comebacks. But I guess if it made sense, Tebowmania wouldn’t be a mania.

Setting aside Tebow, the focus on the Packers and 49ers over the Saints is because of the simple fact that they have better records. And I don’t think anyone is ignoring the Saints; I’ve seen plenty of people express an interest in what they see as a likely Saints/Packers NFC Championship game. If anything its the 49ers who are being dissed, since they generate a lot of "nice story but Alex Smith . . . " thinking.

On what planet? Not this one.

Yeah how dare the only undefeated team get any press.

Yeah how dare a shockingly unconventional QB who is 6-1 as a starter that people unreasonably hate get any press.

Yeah how dare a team that went 6-10 last season that is now 10-2 and clinching their division get any press.

Who gives a shit.

After being on the Alex Smith train last year. Then getting off it this year, I think I’m back on. Early on in the season they weren’t having him do much but in the past couple of games the 49ers are opening up the offense a bit more and Alex can still throw the deep ball when needed. Sure it isn’t pretty and won’t make the ESPN top ten plays but it’s getting the job done and shows the Niners are not just a one trick pony with Frank Gore and the running game.

Actually, I do think the Saints have been a bit removed from the attentions of the national chattering classes, as least from my perspective here in Singapore. I was quite surprised to find out that Drew Brees seems to be having a year that’s not too far removed from that of Aaron Rogers. To me, they are clearly the second-best team in the NFC (they’ve lost one more than SF, but have what to my eyes has been a significantly harder schedule).

I think the problem insofar as attention is concerned is really that the Saints are basically doing what we all expected them to do. They haven’t had the things happen to them that generate national attention: their coach doesn’t treat himself as the star of the team or get into slapping fights with other coaches; they haven’t suffered significant injuries to their star players (except the freak injury to Peyton); they haven’t said stupid things to the press or done particularly stupid things on the field. They’re kind of the Stan Musial of this year’s NFC.

I’m mainly following the season through nfl.com and I’d have to say that if any team is getting the cold shoulder, it’s the 49’ers. Since I’m a Saints fan I’m biased in that I read and watch pretty much everything that’s linked to them but I’d honestly be hard pressed to name five 49’er players without giving it some serious thought.

I’m assuming that you were able to skip that Thanksgiving Day game between the 49ers and the Ravens, because Lord almight, the media Harbaugh-fest was literally unbearable, in that I ultimately ended up turning the game off rather than listen to one more inane, Reader’s Digest-like story about the all-American Harbaugh family. So I will say that even if the 49ers are getting a cold shoulder, their coach sure isn’t. And I’d take Peyton over either Harbaugh any day of the week.

Between him and Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan, I’m really getting tired of these new coach-as-celebrity shtick.

Well, that was one game in a 13 game season, also a Thanksgiving game. I’m just pointing out that on opening nfl.com every day during the season, remarkably few headlines has been concerning the team with the second best record.

Yeah, I’d say the 49ers are a big story, but most people don’t really believe they’re that good; whereas people believe the Saints are good, but they’re not a story. The Packers are both good and a story.

I think the Bears will be giving McNabb a call shortly. Hanne is going to ruin their season in short order if they stay with him. While McNabb may not save it, he’ll be an upgrade over what they have.

Huh? But the Chargers don’t play until Monday Night. How can you say…

Oooh. I see what you did there.

Seriously though. As a life-long Raider Hater I must inform you that, should you guys choke the gift-wrapped AFC West that you have been handed this season… to the Denver Tebows… you will never. Hear. The end of it. NEVER! Nobody will remember how the Chargers were the pre-season darlings. Nobody will care that you have had injuries, blah blah blah. We will look back and think “WTF? How did the Broncs win the west in '11 (*)? OMG Raider suck!”

/cue the maniacal laughter!

(*) I guess technically, if this season turns out to be the dawning of a new era of Tebowball, then you might not be held so accountable for your sins. I fervently pray that this is not so.
