I was away for the holidays, but that catch just reminded me: Cruz got robbed without a Pro Bowl spot this year. The Giants are nowhere without hiim this year.
Seriously; he’s gashed us so far.

He’s like Phil Mcconkey, only better.
It’s about to get a lot less interesting after the Giants score here. These teams are both wildly inconsistant though; this game is a good example of both teams seasons.
The G-men are very capable of beating Atlanta however. I think they match up with them better than Dallas would.

What are the contract statuses of Nicks, Cruz and Manningham? That could be a scary group to face next year with Manning hitting his prime.

Honestly, I don’t think it matters. Not to diminish from the group but it seems like Manning makes his WRs stars not the other way around.

If you actually watched the Giants this year, you’d have seen that Nicks has a gift for making circus catches that only a handful of receivers can make, and Cruz seems to have an uncanny knack to get wide open, to go up and get balls, and snake through defenses after the catch. When Cruz broke the Jets’ back last week on that 99 yarder, it wasn’t because Eli threw a key block.
Yeah, it helps that Eli has hit his stride, but Nicks and Cruz aren’t so-so receivers who Eli makes look like all-pros.
Very enjoyable.
And I was cussing the replay (correctly) overturning JT’s apropos TD. Ironically, it would have stood when he joined the league!!
I was at the Giants game this evening and it was glorious. Man, seeing all those smug Cowboy fans walk out sad is a beautiful thing.

Even though it was overturned, it was still a great moment. He got to bring that TD back and get that huge ovation, which was really nice.
Also, it kind of got overshadowed today with all the playoff berths on the line, but Tom Brady broke Marino’s single season passing record today. And not by a little, he finished with over 5200 yards. Unfortunately, Brees broke the record last week and finished with over 5400. :)
And Stafford broke the 5000 mark as well, and Eli came up a long completion short of the mark as well. It’s unequivocally been the the biggest passing season in the history of the league, and could lead to an insane playoff season.
The Lions are about as wild as you could hope for a wildcard team – they easily have the potential to beat anyone. Problem is they could easily lose to anyone also :)
Coming back to this, I think this is a ridiculous statement. The aforementioned Broncos are clearly the worst the to make the playoffs this year. That said the Giants played 4 of the divisions winners during the regular season and went 1-3 against them. Two of those losses came down to the last possession and I think they’re clearly capable of beating anyone in the playoffs. Their defensive secondary is pretty terrible for a playoff team and I won’t expect a miracle run for 2007 again, but I think they can win a game or two.
Sigh. Just gobs of freaking crap. Offense can’t do anything worth a damn in the first half, and the defense is of course pathetic. Guys just don’t want to make plays. I hate making Newman a scapegoat, but the dude needs to go. Right now. Today. I bet the coaches were riding him so hard to actually go out there and actually do something is why he finally made one in the 4th quarter, after they took his stupid ass out of the game. There were some really good marks, but the overall effort was piss-poor at best. Let’s just not even cover the guy who’s been saving the Giants’ ass all the time and just let him sit in our zone coverages. That’s just super smart. Victor Cruz? That guy is NOTHING.
Then there’s Romo. He looked a bit shakey and threw some wobbily balls, especially in the first half, but they made some good adjustments in the second half. In the first half he was just… jeez. Schizo in the pocket. Only way to describe it. At times he’d be good, other times he got super scared and did stupid shit. And throughout the game the most atrocious thing was that he held on to the ball way too long. Waaaay too long. I kept screaming, “THROW THE FUCKING BALL!” If you don’t see anything, THROW IT THE FUCK AWAY. You know, basic QB stuff that even shit-faced Eli managed to do in this game. Romo’s inability to throw the ball away hurt us big time (though not as much as an ineffective defense).
And finally that leads me to Chris Collinsworth, who wound up being full of shit as usual. He described that one play where Romo twisted around a dozen times, escaped from a couple of linemen, and finally found an open receiver one of the greatest plays he’d ever seen. Except it was all crap, because Romo was THREE YARDS beyond the line of scrimmage, that he had maybe FIVE chances to actually run for the first down with no one in front of him, and a DOZEN chances of throwing the ball out of bounds. All of these things were much more preferable than the stupidity he would up perpetuating. He also happened to mention that the Giants were on a roll since they beat the Cowboys back in Texas a few weeks back. Oh wait, didn’t the Giants roll over like a turd the week after that at home against the Redskins? Oops.
And no, Denver is not better than the Cowboys. Denver is a crap team that backdoored the backdoor into the playoffs. They’ve been completely pathetic and couldn’t even beat a loser, crap team at home.

So, which records didn’t the Saints break this season? They got: completion percentage (Brees), completions (Brees), passing yards (Brees), offensive yardage (team), all-purpose yardage (Sproles), and net punt average (Moorestead). Jimmy Graham also broke the yardage record for a tight-end, but was eventually surpassed by Gronk. On top of it all they’ve also had their best rushing season ever, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
At this point, I don’t care how deep they go in the playoffs. If they keep churning out winning seasons and playing exciting football I’m happy.
So it’s firing day! Spags is gone. Morris is gone. Next?
I’d argue Denver is better than the Cowboys, by virtue of their coming back from 1-4 to having a .500 season(leaving the playoffs out of it since someone from the AFC West HAS to be allowed in).
So Denver sucked…at the start of the season but got at least semi-respectable by the end. The Cowboys? Well, for starters they got swept by the Giants and the Eagles didn’t they? The Broncos avoided that particular type of humiliation.
I think it’s obvious Romo is not a winning QB. He’s at best a Kyle Orton/Rex Grossman type- someone who can play the position better than the scraps you have on your practice squad but not someone who is taking your team to a championship unless you have the world’s greatest defense on your side too. Dallas is going nowhere until they face up to that.

I think it’s a little unfair to compare Romo to Grossman. Grossman has been to a Super Bowl!
Yeah, just barely. The Broncos avoided that particular type of humiliation by being in a crap division and getting into the playoffs by losing the last 3 games of the season. Nice job. The Cowboys finished also at .500 despite being in a much tougher division.

Oh you mean the Kyle Orton who beat Tebow in the last game of the season it would should have been a must-win for Denver at home?

Both Polians are out in Indy. Irsay is cleaning house big time.
A good move, imo. You can’t be a team that builds through the draft and keep having bad drafts. That is what has sunk the Colts and what made this season as bad as it was.
