Yes, please take Mularkey. That would mean the Jags won’t be taking the Panther’s OC, Chudzinski, who they’ve already interviewed. I want to see what he’ll do for a few more years with Cam Newton, Steve Smith and company.
And dammit, they raided the Panthers last time for Del Rio after he turned our bad defense into a top 5 unit in one year (much like what Chud has done for our offense). Pick on someone else :)
So there are no Cowher rumors at all? Is he really done or is he holding out for something specific, like the Dallas job, in a year or two?

Cowher hasn’t coached in what, five years? Six? I’ve got to imagine he’s done.

No way Jerry would hire Cowher as that would mean he is not viewed as the architect of the team anymore. I wish it were otherwise but he still rests on the Super Bowl teams he brought to Dallas in the 90s as a reason why he is a good GM and shouldn’t hire a real one.
Sigh, he is a great owner just can’t past his ego when it comes to running the team.
Maybe, but I bet he can make five times as much coaching for a new team as he currently makes as a TV analyst, and that may be a conservative estimate.
I think we will see him as a head coach again.

Does Cowher need the money, tho? And more importantly, the stress?
You ask anyone about NFL head coaches and they’ll tell you they’re a miserable bunch. It’s a year-round job, with long, grinding hours, and tons of pressure where everything you do is scrutinized. On the other hand, he’s got a cushy analyst gig with virtually no pressure, certainly decent money, which affords him lots of time to spend with his family.
If you’re Cowher, your place in history is already assured. You succeeded an NFL coaching legend, averaged nearly 10 wins a year for 15 years and won a Super Bowl. Unless someone wants to hand him the keys to a franchise, there’s no reason to think he’s not perfectly happy doing this semi-retirement thing for the rest of his life.
If you’re going to count the Angels, don’t forget the Anaheim Ducks, who have also won a championship.

Are they the Los Angeles Angels again?
I thought they were still the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
So there are reports Hue Jackson got canned. What’s the record for coaching vacancies in a season?

I don’t see the real point in firing him, I suspect it mostly a power play but oh well. The team will continue to pile up the penalties.

Yeah, even NFL.com is saying Jackson is gone now. I can understand it, but still a surprise when you think about it. My big question would be where does that put them given the big commit to Palmer? You do all that and a few months later you have a completely different organizational approach and head coach. Makes me wonder if they would cut bait with Carson already.
The Jeff Fisher to the Rams story is getting interesting, though, as reports of the Rams talking to other candidates are starting to pile up. So either these other guys are backup plans or Fisher has perhaps decided to say no. But the Dolphins are also still talking to other guys.
ESPN reports league sources are saying Jackson’s out.
Also, sad news out of Green Bay, as the son of the offensive director apparently fell into an icy river and died.

Yeah, I changed my post above after coming across the NFL.com report. I usually just check PFT for NFL news. ;-)

If they do in fact cut bait with Palmer, then we’ll know that’s why Jackson got fired. What he did did not work out, and they could have not made the playoffs and still had their draft picks.

I kind of hope they do cut Carson, if only because I remain convinced he was Pete’s big plan in Seattle and that they still don’t quite know what “Plan B” is. But I don’t know how realistic it would be for the Raiders to do that in cap terms.

I don’t either Sarkus, but I’d love for them to cut Palmer and re-sign Soup. He’s what’s needed for this team at this time.

Wait, wait, wait. The Raiders are on the hook for #1 picks for Palmer and aren’t exactly loaded with better QB options. Why the holy heck would they CUT him?
Seriously, what?

Twitter is saying that McKenzie wants the west coast offense and Palmer is not that QB.

Just speculation at this point. And actually the Raiders only lose 1 #1 since they didn’t make the playoffs this year. At any rate, if you bring in a Packer guy and a new coach then everthing is on the table, especially if it turns out Palmer’s contract is tradeable or they can cut him and get out with minimal cap damage. Palmer isn’t exactly a protypical Packer style QB.
