Sorry, I mis-wrote. I meant Patriots.

I haven’t followed this nearly as closely as I should. Is there a good recap of his off-field antics somewhere?

So, looks like there’s a chance Peyton needs additional surgery and could be out indefinitely? Doesn’t look good for the Colts.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that while Peyton is being re-evaluated by doctors because of his slow rehab progress, there is no second surgery planned as of yet.

The Peyton Manning thing looks pretty bad. A lot of non-denial denials there. Matt Cassell may also miss the opener, for those making picks this week.

Leroy Selmon, one of the great Buccaneers has also passed away. Only 56 and he had a stroke.

Oh ye of little faith: Grossman will start for the Redskins.

Rex! Rex! Rex!

Man, I can’t believe they ran Jason Campbell out of town and burned a draft pick to boot on the McNabb deal and ended up with Grossman as their QB.

Why can’t you believe it? Is this really that different than the Haynesworth fiasco, or any of the other personnel disasters in the Snyder era?

He made a rap album and some other stuff. I think the big problem was he showed up to camp out of shape.

Funnily enough having Rex Grossman start makes me way more likely to watch a Redskins game. I have a soft spot for the sex cannon, what can I say (as long as he’s on someone else’s team).

This kind of thing makes me think that the most important factor in a winning football team is a non-crazy owner.

Lots of people were out of shape due to the lockout. I’m thinking his circle of friends is a more likely culprit:

I remember when I used to think Shanahan was a pretty good coach. But the Grossman move, its a head scratcher. I guess you can argue that he’s the best QB they have right this minute, and maybe Shanahan is basically saying that he feels he owes the veterans on the team at least a token attempt at acting like maybe they can contend. Then when the team struggles, they move to Beck and can say “we tried.”

But in the long-term starting Grossman accomplishes little. They either have something in Beck or they do not, and since they didn’t go after any other QB’s in the offseason, the Shanahans presumably thought Beck has something. They aren’t going to find that out while Grossman leads them to five or six wins.

Yeah…you were right earlier. Grossman it is.

I guess when you look at it, Grossman wasn’t worse than McNabb last year (he was arguably better, actually). Though to be honest, that’s not saying a whole lot.

And “ran Campbell out of town”? He had his time, and didn’t produce. There were a lot of extenuating circumstances (changing offensive coordinators, like every year), but Campbell just didn’t progress in his skill set either. Was the master of the checkdown, and was a terrible deep ball thrower, so defenses just played the Skins tight knowing that Campbell just couldn’t throw it over the top with any accuracy. Appreciate the guy, but he had his chances (52 games in DC); let’s not act as if he was sacrificed too early in his career.

As a Cowboys fan, I welcome every mistake the Skins make because it keeps deflecting attention from how fucked up our “brain trust” has been since Parcells left. People notice it, but then Snyder goes wacky in the off season again and everyone jumps on that story.
