The NFL 2018 Season

Chiefs have axed Bob Sutton.

And the Chiefs are suddenly better! Seriously, I can’t remember a single blitz the entire game. Brady had time to throw on almost every single dropback. At some point a competent DC would have thrown a blitz in as a surprise, no?

When the TV analyst is calling out the plays better than your DC you probably do have a problem.

Tony Romo as the next KC DC?

I actually heard guys on ESPN yesterday talk about how you will see Romo’s name brought up as a future coaching hire now. You don’t see ex-QB’s of Romo’s stature (yea, I know, he never won the big one, hell, he never got near the big one) brought up as co-ordinators.

Sutton probably got fired for failing to adjust. It is also strange how KC played probably their best two defensive games in the playoffs. Like the Rams.

Not quite so strange: getting an extra week off to rest (while your opponent must play) and a chance to prepare a gameplan the entire time.

Yes. Nantz is smart enough to do what he has to, and stay out of Romo’s way. We’ve had instances of multiple ‘stars’ in a booth jockeying for microphone time and it sometimes is ugly. Cosell/Gifford/Meredith on MNF was the classic example. Nantz deserves kudos for letting Romo be Romo.

The Bengals are quietly putting together a pretty interesting (and young) new coaching staff. The Rams Zac Taylor is all but confirmed as the new head coach, and now Raiders QB Coach Brian Callahan has been named as the likely new OC in Cincinnati. If that name seems familiar, it’s because he is the son of current Washington OL Coach and former Raiders and Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan.

But it gets even more interesting, as the Bengals parted ways last week with their OL Coach of only one year, Frank Pollack, who did a good job last season and was not part of the housecleaning surrounding Lewis. Rumor has it Taylor wants Callahan senior as the new Bengals OL coach, and their connection is strong given that Zac Taylor was the most successful QB at Nebraska during Callahan senior’s time there.

That would leave the position of DC still open to fill, and given the purely offensive side of the ball experience that Taylor brings the Bengals are probably looking to hire someone with a lot of experience at all levels of NFL coaching as their DC. The current rumored top pick : Jack Del Rio.

If that coaching staff comes together in Cincinnati? Man, talk about a complete change for the Bengals. It will be very interesting to see how that unfolds.

Because of the success of the Rams young coach the latest trend in the NFL is young coaches. There is no other reason for guys like Kingsbury and Taylor getting jobs. I am not saying this is a bad thing, but it is the trendy thing.

This has been confirmed via peer review.

I’ll allow this because he’s 10 and hasn’t learned the Ideal Gas Law yet.

I expect better of all of you, being supposedly educated.

Hell, if the kid is from New York, he might just win state too.

Kentucky. Which means either Colts or Bengals most likely.

Cincy is closer but do we really think there would be Bengals fans outside Ohio?

My money is on Colts fan.

Yeah, the Browns are as screwed-up as you’d imagine

Marketing executives wanted employees to see how fans were engaging with the Browns on social media, so they projected the Browns feed onto a giant wall at the facility. It was like broadcasting talk radio over the entire building, and one day in particular, it was worse than that. One of the marketing staffers entered a search for #dp – for Dawg Pound. The problem was, that hashtag carried a few different meanings, one of which triggered an array of porn to be broadcast onto a wall for the entire office to see for more than 20 minutes, until a tech employee killed the feed.

To be fair, double penetration also describes what happens to the Brown’s offensive line on a regular basis.

To be really fair, much of this is old news. And although that’s a good joke, Mayfield was actually the best-protected QB in the league after the coaching staff change was made.

This is true; only 5 sacks in the last 8 games. Almost as if Hue Jackson couldn’t run an offense to save his life.

That couldn’t be it! The guy who helped the Bengals…

Go 1-7 to end the season and only once score more than 21 points in that time?

It’s funny, they only scores less than 21 points once before bringing on Hue.
