The North Korea Thread

Sweet. I kinda missed the nuclear war apocalypse paranoia and dread of my childhood and adolescent years. Kinda cool that now millennials will get to share this joy.

We’re not fucked, not directly. The citizens of Seoul may be, though, along with a lot of North Koreans.

Yeah. Except at that point we were in the 4th year of a horribly brutal war that they started. That’s acceptable talk for wartime.

I wouldn’t feel all that safe living in Hawaii either. Or near Pearl Harbor especially.

Dropping a nuke on Pearl would be pretty devastating and easily within their weapon range. At that point it’s just a matter of what their accuracy is.

Are we here yet?

Section 4 is the only part of the amendment that has never been invoked.[25] It allows the Vice President, together with a “majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide”, to declare the President “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office” by submitting a written declaration to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. As with Section 3, the Vice President would become Acting President.

Section 4 is meant to be invoked should the President’s incapacitation prevent him from discharging his duties, but he is unable or unwilling to provide the written declaration called for by Section 3. The President may resume exercising the Presidential duties by sending a written declaration to the President pro tempore and the Speaker of the House.

Should the Vice President and Cabinet believe the President is still “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office”, they may within four days of the President’s declaration submit another declaration that the President is incapacitated. If not already in session, the Congress must then assemble within 48 hours. The Congress has 21 days to decide the issue. If within the 21 days two-thirds of each house of Congress vote that the President is incapacitated, the Vice President would “continue” to be Acting President. Should the Congress resolve the issue in favor of the President, or make no decision within the 21 days allotted, then the President would “resume” discharging the powers and duties of his office. The use of the words “continue” and “resume” imply that the Vice President remains Acting President while Congress deliberates.

However, the President may again submit a written declaration of recovery to the President pro tempore and the Speaker of the House. That declaration could be responded to by the Acting President and the Cabinet in the same way as stated earlier. The specified 21-day Congressional procedure would start again.

I was hoping he’d learned his lesson with that special forces military raid in Yakla, Yemen that didn’t turn out anything like the movies. But that was only a short time after he was inaugurated. Maybe he forgot, or figured he’s had enough presidential experience by now to let America’s military win again!

But that was Obama’s fault!

And his generals, who are otherwise the best, the most respected generals!

So i’m not being overly paranoid looking at Nukemaps. If they aim it downtown, I’ll probably be in trouble with the radiation. Although, my house being concrete block I should be better off than most people.

On the other hand if they target Pearl Harbor that destroys the port and it will be a challenge to keep people feed. or evacuated since it also would take out the airport. But I pretty sure I’d survive and the radiation would be primarily out to sea.

Well the upside is that they don’t have Soviet nukes or anything, probably more akin to FatMan/Little Boys, so unless you lived right next to the port you’d likely be okay.

Well… unless they miss, which they probably would, then it’s kind of a crap shoot.

Trump: If you threaten us again, I"m gonna nuke you.
NK: We’re going to nuke Guam.
Trump: … I didn’t expect you to call my bluff.

Since we’re all going to die in nuclear fire, here’s a little reading about what it will be like if you don’t happen to perish.

Dig the hashtag.

Feel like #coolerheadsprevail is a better hashtag but those might be few and far between in this case. This could be the clown car version of the Cuban miss crisis.

I’ve said for a while that I think this is gonna end up in a fight…
But with some idiot in charge tweeting threats? That’s not how to do it.

You know, I think this needs to be considered like someone saying they are going to kill themselves. There’s a big difference between someone saying “I’m going to kill myself” and “I have a gun and I’v though about blowing my brains out” because the latter is specific and indicates the person has had thoughts beyond superficial. Both should be cause for alarm, but the latter is a better indicator that something bad is imminent.

Maybe this is typical DPRK posturing, but the naming of an actual target and an indication of motive for hitting that target feels a heck of a lot different to me.

Some context on the Pacific Air Forces Fight Tonight thing. Seems it actually relates to a series of planned flyover missions (that are now over) and is not actually a response to the NK/Guam threat.
