Are the Q23 ones. Will it be a sid three peat?
I hope GoW doesn’t win GotY here, too.
I loved Gears of War, but it isn’t even in my top ten. Sid Meier’s Railroads, however, is among the 2006 Quarterlies.

Sid Meier’s Railroads! gets bonus points from me if only because you have to yell the title every time you say it.
Railroads!
The Quarterlies have “Most Unsucessful remake in History” as a catagory? Excellent!
Gears is not GotY. FFXII, Zelda, Wii Sports, Lego Star Wars II, then Gears.
After playing FF12, it’s great but not GoTy for me.
mine would be Okami, Zelda, Company of Heroes, Titan Quest, and Galciv2.
(Would include Viva Pinata somewhere but don’t have a 360)
WHAT YOU SAY?
FF12’s one of those games that over stayed it’s welcome by like…30 hours.
If you only have 10 hours worth of story progression don’t stretch the damned game to 50+ hours !!! (<-- Expects JRPGS to play/progress like one)
Don’t think of it as a JRPG. Think of it as an MMOG simulator.
Oblivion.
The End.
Q.E.D.
In fairness, I think anyone who knows what the “FF” stands for really oughtn’t be surprised when this happens. Did you think it was a new Final Fight?
Can we excise all console games – especially crap like FF12 and Wii Sports – from the Quarterlies? THe lack of love for Company of Heroes is irking moi.
I still find it nuts that you have no respect for FFXII. It’s a massive dungeon crawl with an insane number of varied boss fights and freeform customization.
I wouldn’t mind separating out consoles and pc games in order to allow more coverage for the great but not Game of the Year titles that came out.
Thats because most of us have not the machines capable to run it…
That will leave you with a list of 10 RTS games, since thats pretty much all that is left for the PC anymore. Don’t worry though, I am pretty sure Tom’s list will break down something like this:
3 RTS games
1 vacuum cleaner simulation
1 b list racing game that is ‘misunderstood’
1 Sid Meir game
1 music game
1 kinda sorta RPG/collectionanimal/pet/toy sim
1 FPS, but nothing that was too much of a success, maybe Prey
I gotta give it to Dead Rising. They had me at Kabong! (sound of guitar smashing over a poor zombie’s head)
My PC is crap but I just tried the demo and it worked flawlessly. I’m guessing (and hoping) that the full game is more optimized than the demo.
My video card is a 9700 Pro, processor an Athlon XP 2500+, with 1.5 GB of RAM. I’m running it at 1024x768 with no AA. I also decided to install Oblivion and give it a try and it works alright. A lot of RAM pays off.
