Would an internal hard drive read/write data faster than an external HD?

It depends, but sometimes yes.

Thanks. I do have Plus (and usb drives), so I’ll check it out. I, of course, posted the question without taking even a moment on the console to look into it 1st hand.

Are the PS4’s USB ports 3.0? That could be a limiting factor if not.

The PS4’s USB ports are 3.0. BUT, Sony decided to only include two of them, and both are on the FRONT. I would prefer plugging an ext. drive into the back of the unit, out of sight. So even if Sony made it possible, I’d still go the route of upgrading the internal drive instead. 2GB for $90 and it won’t void the warranty. Sounds good to me.

Well, my nearly seven year old PS3 Metal Gear Solid Special Edition died yesterday right after my wife finished watching a blu-ray. I was just going to buy another one, but decided not to since they are still close to THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS! Just can’t see myself paying that much for a last gen console, so I’m picking up a PS4 next Friday. Would really love to get a Diablo Ultimate Evil bundle, but haven’t seen any online. That being the case, I’m thinking about getting the Destiny bundle. Don’t know much about the game though, plus white really wouldn’t be my first choice. I’ll admit I didn’t plan on buying one for at least another year, so I know nothing about either. Any current PS4 owners and Destiny betas players care to comment? I’ve heard the game is mainly focused on PvP, which I could give a shit about. I’ve also heard that there’s a campaign you can play coop, which would really be more my style. If it’s main focus is PvP I think I’ll just skip it.

I’ve asked more or less the same question on the Destiny thread, so you may want to monitor that too. And, by the way, you can get the Destiny bundle in the ordinary black version as well.

Its not mainly PvP - You can play it fine solo, even though its always online. You will see other players though, and it does have an MMO mentality regarding questing and storytelling. Its also extremely pretty, with some of the highest resoultion textures I’ve ever seen. There is a campaign, and you can play it co-op or solo as you please.

I love my PS4, a lot more than I loved my PS3 which I really loved!

You can probably upload them to the cloud if they’re not already done automatically or save them to a usb stick and do it that way.

Hmm, just went into the stores here and the PRISM ONE was around 18% cheaper than the PS4. seems like MS has an Agressive pricing policy here to try and beat the PS4.

MS is being very aggressive right now. Lots of deals lately with giftcards or this week with a free game of your choice.

If only there was someplace on this discussion board where people were discussing Destiny! :)

FWIW, it’s not at all primarily PvP. It’s an MMO similar to other MMOs in that it’s based on PvE gameplay, but it has a significant but optional PvP component.

There is. I read through it, so far not impressed. Leaning towards just getting the console and D3UE. Everything else out right now I either don’t really care about, or already own a better version on PC. D3 is appealing because I’m looking for something to play couch coop with my wife and daughters. I was kind of looking forward to Infamous Second Son, but your review doesn’t look very encouraging. Any other suggestions?

I purchased a PS4. It will be here this Friday, according to the fates.

“Ladies, ladies, you know I love you; I can’t get enough of you dames. Is my PS4 here yet?”

-Todd

I actually haven’t played Second Son, but I think the review you’re talking about is Brandon Cackowski-Schnell’s. He covered it for the site and, like you, nothing he said made me want to play it. I think for all your next-gen open-world needs, you’re best off waiting for GTA V.

Diablo III is indeed great couch co-op, but only for the sort of people who would go for Diablo III. Which is pretty much everyone in the world ,but you would know best whether that applies to your wife and daughters. There’s a really cool and deceptively simple downloadable shooter called Resogun which is supergood and has local co-op. Hohokum has its charm if you’re into weird arty non-game games. But I’m still mostly new to the PS4 ecosystem – ugh, I just said “PS4 ecosystem” – so I’ll defer to the longer term owners for more suggestions. I’m sure there’s a mess of them throughout this thread as well.

There was a great episode of Louie last season, where he discovers his tween daughter taking a puff from a joint. After a lot of reflection about his own history w/ drugs, and much fretting he finally cooks her lunch and tells her “Good-bye to your childhood, I guess.”

Introducing PS4 Diablo 3 to my eight year old son feels awfully similar!

So what’s a good pair of headphones for this thing? Is it like the PS3 and you can use pretty much anything?

The PS4 comes with a one-ear headpiece with a microphone you can use, in case you didn’t know this. I use it, and it works okay. Other than that, you can apparently use anything, even if it does take more power.
