Probably depends on how much stuff you have installed. (kind of like the infernal trophy synching)
I’m sure it can be variable, but my 500GB PS3 and 32GB Vita are both very full and it’s never taken more than a few minutes. If it is taking several hours it is probably the case that there is physical damage to the hard drive the system is trying to recover from. I think they use that language mostly to discourage people from pulling the plug when they think it is hanging after not making enough visible progress over a relatively short amount of time (like 5 minutes).
There is another known issue with this update where some folks (like myself) can no longer connect to PSN after the update. The network connection works (web browser etc), it just times out connecting to the service. Ah, Sony, never change.
Thanks for the heads up everyone. I won’t update until I hear an all clear.
I’ve had my PS4 crash three times since the update, unrelated to the Standby bug. One time I was viewing a twitch stream and the PS4 locked up and shut itself off. Hopefully this next patch will fix things.
My PS4 couldn’t connect to PSN after the update but that seems to have fixed itself. The next day everything was fine again.

Ugh. I had to pull the power cord to get the PS4 to boot back up after this update. Thankfully no disk corruption.
2.01 is out to fix the borked rest mode.

I have a brand new Playstation 4 and I went looking for game demos. The only place I could see demos was under “Playstation Store > Games > New > Demos” and then there’s a button on the far-right which says see more demos. When I click on it I see exactly eight demos including two soccer games, an NBA game, a hockey game, Minecraft, and a couple of what looks like XBoxLive type Arcade games. It is labelled “New Demos” on top, which kind implies that there are a whole bunch of “Old Demos” somewhere, but heck if I can figure out where they might be.
Am I missing something or does the Playstation just mostly not do demos?
There are a few more demos for PS4 on the store webpage. Around 25 where I am. You can add them to your account on there and set the system to automatically start downloading them.
There’s a bit more than that, but in general both next gen consoles have seen a reduction in the number of demos.
Also, be sure to grab P.T.

Thanks Gigglemoo, I found them online and am now downloading “Lego the Hobbit”.
It does seem quite awkward to have to login to the website instead of going through the Playstation though.
Well that sucks. I wonder why? It seemed like a good way to get people sucked into playing and then buying a game. I suppose they must have ran the numbers and found more often than not people would play a bit, be satiated and then not buy.
Okay, thanks for the recommendation. Downloading.
I mostly bought the PS4 for Dragon Age: Inquisition, but figured I ought to give it a spin now and make sure it’s all happy before DA comes out next week, and demos seemed like a good way to do that.
I should point out what this is though, it’s not a demo, it’s a playable teaser that was used as a way to announce the new Silent Hill game. It’s a bit obtuse, but by design, as it was basically part of a viral marketing campaign. It is creepy as fuck though, and totally worth booting up for a bit, and the game engine they are using looks pretty nice on the PS4.

Thanks forgeforsaken sounds like it should do pretty well for giving my Playstation a test run before Dragon Age comes out next week.

(*) Read that as Ubisoft’s inability to release anything that runs well these days.
I believe they figured out it had to do with a friends list of over 100 or something like that. Seems like that’s something they should be able to QA before releasing a game, but it’s Ubi these days so…

I couldn’t log into PSN Sunday and Monday, but today I can log in and access the store no problem. So … wait and see, maybe?
