As a media player, it’s getting better. My biggest gripe was the lack of a Youtube app, but that’s fixed now, and the Youtube app on the PS4 is fine. Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, Amazon Prime…they do what they do. Not sure if there’s any way to stream video from a computer yet. I rather suspect that if there are ways, they’re not as good as the PS3 currently.

Exclusives…you mentioned one biggie. TLOU Remastered on PS4 is terrific. Once you play Diablo 3 on the PS4, you’ll never be able to go back to playing it on PC–it’s like it was made for the console. Other than that…sports games, I guess. MLB the Show.

Seconded on The Last of Us - one of my favorite games ever. Diablo 3 is extremely good on the PS4 though hackers seem to be around quite a bit lately. I ran into a guy with over 7000 Paragon levels the other night. The hacked equipment these days has 3 slots on everything & insane stats.

If you have the paid pass, you can use Plex.

PS4 also has a pretty serviceable web browser for any sites that offer HTML5 video but don’t have an app. That’s how I watch premium Giant Bomb videos on my TV these days.

I like The Order: 1886 a lot more than most. I still love Resogun. InFamous: Second Son is a fun superhero simulator, but a bit shallow as an open world game. Tom and a few other people have a pretty high opinion of DriveClub which just had replays patched in.

The Lego games are a good option for kid friendly co-op. Rayman Legends is on PS4 as well. I think even Knack has a co-op mode if you want to take a chance on that. If you’re open to local competitive play there are some good indie options like Towerfall and Sports Friends.

I’ve spent an unhealthy amount of time playing indies on the ps4. Stuff like Rogue Legacy, Don’t Starve, CounterSpy and such have eaten away so many hours.

Also my favorite version of Pinball Arcade.

Still whittling away at The Last of Us, and stupid excited for Bloodborne.

Yeah, I am also stupid excited for Bloodborne. The disappointment that is coming is no doubt of a truly epic scale.

So, I just bought a PS4, primarily for Bloodbourne. I already own a XBone, but I’m not crazy about it. I do have a PS+ membership, so I figure that’s a good deal. I also have a vita and a PS3. Actually, I still have my PSX around somewhere too, but I digress.

I bought the Amazon bundle with the remastered Last of US, along with Infamous Second Son and Killzone Shadow Fall.

Does Last of us come with the expansion? Are the other two games any good? What are the must-have exclusives for the system?

Hugs,
Ike

From my own personal experience, I got the most from Last of Us, then Second Son. I only played Killzone a smidge. Last of Us is a must do, and Second Son is a mostly must do game =)

I would really play Helldivers and Resogun as well. Great little games.

I think the Last of Us Remastered has the expansion content in it.

Don’t forget to download the free PS+ games this month before they go away. Not the best selection for me but free is free!

It does indeed! Obviously don’t play it until you finish the game though.

Oh, I had another question. Do the new controllers operate by bluetooth, like the PS3 controllers, or do they operate by infrared like, you know, everything else?

Bluetooth-like, if not bluetooth. I’m unaware of an IR controllers other than device remotes in this day and age.

Bluetooth, according to this article on using the PS4 controller with a PC.

They also work with the PSTV and by USB connection to a PS3 (although you don’t get a PS button).

The 2.50 firmware is going live tomorrow: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/03/25/ps4-system-update-2-50-available-tomorrow-features-detailed/

Includes the long awaited suspend/resume feature for games, button remapping and other usability features, a backup and restore utility to USB hard drives, and a number of friendlist and trophy enhancements.

Automatic Installation for System Software Updates

It’s about goddamn time. Jeez. I thought there was something wrong with my unit, because I thought the PS4 already had this feature.

Little Big Planet 3 is fun to play w/ kids. Skylanders is there, but that’s a world of pain you’re introducing to your wallet w/ your kid’s thirst for every single $15 plastic figurine.

Diablo 3 is a fun couch co-op game, but it’s a bit bloody for a 5 year old.

They are not going to add back the ability to play videos from a USB flash stick (as the PS3 was able to do) ever, are they?

I bet they will. If for no other reason than Xbox One has it. I’m betting they’re working on it.

Are those kinds of things available on existing consoles? I don’t use any of these features, but it’s pretty cool that they offer them.
