Someone on a podcast (Virtual) got a PS4 last week and the console setup/updating was about half an hour. That didn’t include patching any games though.
I almost forgot about an Internet connection for this thing. I guess I will borrow the HTPC’s wired Internet for the initial setup, then switch to wireless.
I was worried I’d have to buy a $70 dongle for wireless, but then I realized people would revolt and/or be less likely to pay Sony for multiplayer. (I’m glad there’s a 14 day trial for that.)

I messed around with the 60fps remote play.
The setting is on the client side NOT on the ps4. I tried it both on the ps tv and vita.
It’s a big improvement. The little uneven stutters are gone and it basically looks like a very smooth 720p game. This is with gigabit ethernet on both sides with the ps tv. The input lag is still about the same though. Still, it’s a pretty substantial improvement.
Unboxing begins at 5:53 Eastern Time. Normally I drink fine cognac when playing PC games, but for this I turned to Miller Lite.
Wait, that’s the Xbox isn’t it?
Oh, account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com seems to be down.
Can Kim Dotcom fix this?
Yeah this is weird. downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it’s up, but tracert dies after prolexic.com, a DDoS protection service.
[EDIT] They must have flagged my IP, maybe because I swapped network cables. A local friend verified it for me.
Oh, good god. Why did I have to come into this thread?

Spotify is up for PS4 and works pretty great. Links with your account easily, tracks will play in-game and you can control it with your phone/tablet. Only thing is you may need to lower the music on the game.
You also don’t need a paid Spotify subscription to use.
With this and Suspend/Resume working I love this OS.
Does it work with music on your PC like the other Spotify clients do? That could be a nice DLNA workaround.
Man, wish they supported Rdio too.
And Dropbox! I’d kill to be able to enter my Dropbox credentials on the PS4 and then have all the screenshots and video I save get stored there instead of having to shuffle USB drives around.
So what’s up the Adjust Screen Size option? This really freaks me out. I want it to be 1:1 and it doesn’t seem like something I’d have to adjust from a default…

I don’t think so but I haven’t tried yet.
I wouldn’t freak out. It shouldn’t modify resolution just the display area. That said I would probably leave it on default.
It’s a system level title safe setting for people who have TVs that overscan. This way individual games don’t have to ask you to adjust the screen size like they did on PS3. Make sure your TV is set to 1:1/Just Scan and set it up accordingly on PS4.
I know what it is, it’s just weird they don’t make 1:1 the default. Not to mention when I enlarge the screen, there are still a few pixels on either side of the corner markers. It’s not a reassuring system at all.
It errs on the side of not cutting off parts of the image for anyone. That’s a perfectly sensible approach.
But are my 1920x1080 pixels of data from the game getting scaled down to 1914x1080?
I gather it makes little difference at TV watching distance. It’s just weird.

Ever tried to get a PC’s video card to talk to a commercial TV? I’m not sure 1:1 even exists in that context.
Oddly enough, setting the PC to 1680x1050 looked a hell of a lot better than 1920x1080 on my Samsung. My guess is that there’s some internal processing that a TV does that PC monitors simply don’t do.
Sure, lots of TVs have zero overscan. I specifically checked that my new TV (a vizio) allowed disabling overscan. And actually, it was disabled by default.
You might be able to disable it on your TV too, with a bit of research.

A lot of TVs also have some form of AA or motion blur adjustment processing that you may want to turn off too for gaming.
Crud, it’s showing up as $458.44 for me. I would have pulled the trigger otherwise … and still might.
