I guess I played Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man in 2018, not 2019. I thought I played a lot of Injustice 2 after that, but maybe because I deleted the game for hard drive space, it didn’t count? And because Untitled Goose Game, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Overcooked, and Jackbox was usually booted up through my wife’s account, that’s why it didn’t show up here? The baby came in early February, and came home from the hospital in June, so it was hard to get to much console gaming. I think at least five of these RDR2 hours were spent asleep in front of the TV, still logged in.
But Hoard and Hotline Miami from my PS3 I turned on one afternoon for old times’ sake? Why are you on the list?
If Netflix and Amazon Prime Video counted for hours, they would have been the big annual winners of timesinks, no question.

I’m pretty much PC only, but my 13 year old son, hoo boy… Yet he actually had decent grades.
Maybe, but I don’t use them.
Did I leave a game running by accident? For a couple of weeks? I don’t remember playing anything on the PS4 nearly as much last year as I played Persona 5 (and that number doesn’t count the amount I played in 2018). And the other two titles in my top games were on PS3.
I guess I didn’t play 10 hours of PS4 during 2019, so I have no report. My console gaming was all on the xbox one x this year.
The Back Button Attachment showed up today. I’ll be testing with Apex tonight.
Mine is showing up today, though for the current game I’m playing don’t see much use for it. Still looking forward to messing with it.
I used it all night in Apex Legends. I like it! It added some weight to the controller which I had to adjust to. My headset 1/8" plug seemed hard to push into the jack on the Attachment so at first I didn’t push hard enough to seat it and had no microphone. Once I corrected that by applying enough force then it was fine. I use two controllers and have one charging while I use the other one so I’ll just move the Attachment between controllers when the charge is depleted.
As for the setup, it’s pretty easy. The included default button settings are simple and useful Circle and X, Square and Triangle, or L1 and R1. If you want to change the defaults, that’s easy too. You click and hold the button (the whole center circle is a button) and then tap the back button you want to change to something else. I eventually settled on UP on the d-pad for one of them (probably the most inconvenient button in Apex because it brings up the wheel for choosing shield cell/health/Phoenix Kit and applying heals) and Circle which on my controller is melee. No longer having to take my left thumb off the stick for the heals was massive and while it’s not second nature yet, it is also a gigantic improvement. Up on the d-pad was STILL the one thing in Apex that I had to always think about while playing. This truly helped. Before that, I experimented using the face button defaults but I found that it was hard to unlearn all the face button gymnastics I already know and especially Square (which is used a lot in Apex) was hard to press a lot with a back button.
Getting comfortable with my ring fingers on the back buttons was also a little bit jarring, but by the end of the night that felt fine too. I tried my middle finger at first but that was not comfortable.
Overall, it’s a solid addition to the controller. I hope the rumors of this being standard on the PS5 controller are true as I’d like the extra two buttons back there specifically for things you don’t use all the time but do keep your thumbs on the sticks.

Do you think the back button would interfere with putting the controllers in a charging stand?

Ah, darn. That’s the kind I have. (Well not that one, but one that uses the charging port on the bottom.)
I mean, you could just remove the attachment to charge of course. It’s not permanent.
From the Xbox Series X thread, I wanted to reply here:
This is a good point. I’ve definitely not given the PS4 enough play time this generation. These are the games I’ve played on PS4 this generation so far:
Resogun (excellent)
Killzone Shadow Fall (decent)
Knack (decent)
Watch Dogs (terrible)
Last of Us Remastered (mindblowingly excellent)
Infamous Second Son (good)
Infamous First Light (good)
Uncharted 2 and 3 (meh)
Grow Home (excellent)
Never Alone (excellent)
Galak-Z (excellent)
Don’t Starve (excellent)
No Man’s Sky (very good in the beginning, but they kept patching it adding busywork)
Bloodborne (excellent)
And here is the games I own that I haven’t gotten to yet on PS4:
Shadow of the Colossus Remake
Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete
Wipeout: Omega Collection
God of War
Rez Infinite
Day of the Tentacle Remastered
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s end
Uncharted: Lost Legacy
Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin
Grim Fandango Remastered
The Last Guardian
I still have to finish The Old Hunters DLC for Bloodborne (and the end of the main game)
And that’s the games I own on PS4 that I want to get to. There’s still some on my wishlist that I will no doubt get in some future sale:
Trover Saves the Universe
Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality
Last of Us II
Beat Saber
Astro Bot: Rescue Mission
Dragon Quest XI
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Gravity Rush 2
Phew! I think you’re onto something Enidigm. Maybe I should skip the PS5 just so that I can play all of these during that generation.
ARK has been performing abysmally (freezing, crashing) on my PS4 Pro, but other games and streaming video are fine. I’ve rebuilt the PS4 database, cleared the cache and reinstalled the game, to no avail. Any other suggestions? It’s only been an issue since the ARK 2.14 update but I’m not sure it’s not just me experiencing this.

On the other hand, my recent experience going between PC and PS4 Pro on FF14 has made me excited to pick up a PS5 at launch. I’m willing to put off playing some of those exclusives in exchange for better performance and much shorter load times.
I’m not sure why load times don’t bother me much. I suspect it’s because I’ve gotten so used to filling that time with glances at news on my phone, listening to podcasts, music, etc.
The only thing that really concerns me on making my PS4 last another few years is the controller. The thumbsticks are really starting to fall apart. And the RB button has been mushy and sticks since launch year but has been feeling worse lately.
I wonder if PS5 controllers will be useable on the PS4?

Does anyone know how to revive a PS Dualshock 3 that doesn’t seem to charge anymore?

Did you finally get a PSVR? That’s a whole new rabbit hole for backlog.
I did not.
But I figure now I have to, because of the Psychonauts game. I also have the Wipeout game that’s PSVR compatible. And it’s the reason I put those other VR games on my wishlist too, I figure, maybe one day, PSVR. The only thing that complicates this plan is Half Life: Alyx. Now PC VR has an exclusive that I want more than any of the PS VR exclusives. :(
Reinitializing my PS4 totally fixed ARK for about an hour, then it froze a couple of times and locked up, crashing my system. Can’t figure out why it’s just this one game doing that.
It’s probably just the game, right? I heard ARK was full of bugs on the PC and Xbox as well. At least, it was a few years ago when my friend used to play. I’m not sure on its current status on those platforms.
