Fixed that for ya. :)
Yeah, I know, shooting stuff is cool in slo-mo, I guess, but the old-cranky man in me can’t get past what an unbelievable waste it was. #getoffmydamnlawn
USGamer was not impressed by Killzone: http://www.usgamer.net/articles/killzone-shadow-fall-review-setting-a-low-bar-for-ps4-shooters
I feel like I really ought to enjoy Killzone: Shadow Fall. It has many of the qualities I enjoy in a first-person shooter: A strong emphasis on story in its single-player mode, an elaborate futuristic world, varied level design, and a willingness to stray from the corridor shooter style so common to the modern FPS. Yet somehow, I detest it.
You see, along with all these sterling qualities, Shadow Fall includes a slate of poor choices, all brought together in a stitched-together hodgepodge of ideas plucked from every million-selling shooter of the past decade. Usually the worst ideas. You love escort missions, right? First-person jumping challenges? Scripted sequences with unclear, constantly changing directives that can only be cleared by scrupulous memorization via trial and error? Sudden, arbitrary mechanical changes in sections featuring skills you never knew your character had?
Killzone includes all of these things, and they’re every bit as terrible here as they were in the other games where you hated them the first time around.
…
Ugh. Curiosity dampened.

I’m not surprised. Killzone is the gorgeous-looking FPS you buy for your Playstation when you don’t have any better games to play. I liked the last two entries but they were competent rather than memorable.

Yeah, the xbone is much larger and has an external power brick too. MS overengineered its cooling to heighten reliability. They don’t want a repeat of the red ring of death. I have no particular problem with that, the thing sits under your TV anyway, it’s not like you’re carrying it around.

That late-night video looked pretty awesome. Smart move by Sony. I don’t know what sort of audience they manage to reach but it does give the impression that the PS4 can do the same thing as the xbone for $100 less although you do have to buy a camera. I assume that MS also has the late night circuit all planned for next week.

Am I crazy or is there a strange amount of focus on single player content in Killzone Shadow Fall reviews? If Bad Company or anything by Dice (including the latest BF4, which I love when it works) was judged on single player content the series would have died long ago. Thankfully BF is judged rightly as an online game and stands above nearly everything else as the best large scale and destructible mayhem money can buy. Maybe Halo is, or was, a great story alongside a MP game, but most shooters are multiplayer affairs. Right? Suddenly I am wondering if I am in Crazy Town on that.
Not that I think the gamer/ reviewer world would love KZ MP. That in itself is a unique beast that traditionally runs against what is commonly available or in fashion for online shooters. I love it for that, but can see if why someone wouldn’t. But at least call it out for that rather than single player. That doesn’t do anyone any good.

As I understand it the embargo ended yesterday, but nobody can play online until launch.
Plenty of “shooters” are single-player focused, eg Bioshock, Deus Ex series, even Gears of War (more co-op than single-player, but the series was always campaign focused even if the MP modes were enjoyable).
But yeah, you’re right that many are clearly MP focused with the SP almost being an after thought (or in some cases not even existing), with big examples being BF, COD, CS, TF2, the Quake games and yes, Killzone (particularly KZ2 and up).
Halo is pretty unique in the fact that it historically served both SP and MP masters extremely well, at least up to and including Halo 3. ODST was mostly all about the single player, Reach kinda sucked for both, Halo 4 did a pretty good job on both but the game ultimately almost felt kinda retro because of how much the world of shooters had moved on since the Halo glory days while Halo 4 succeeded by being mostly like Halo 2 & 3.
Having said all of this, I tend to just ignore reviewers when they talk about multiplayer on big tent-pole shooters (eg. COD, BF, etc) anyway because 99 times out of 100 they just gloss over it and often don’t really have the context that a dedicated fan of whatever franchise would have.
I was under the impression that it was a well known “internet fact” that the vast majority of gamers do not play multiplayer at all?
Yes, it is true that many never play online (though less true now than it was historically). But despite that quite a few “big name” shooter series are obviously focused on the multiplayer aspect.
See, for example:
Even back to the Quake (particularly Q2+)/UT days, those games had single player out of necessity, though the developers clearly focused on the MP design over the token single player stuff.
Spike is airing PS4 All Access live on the East coast right now. Naughty Dog announced the first story DLC for The Last of Us then showed a teaser for a new Uncharted on PS4. Emphasis on “teaser”. Just a cryptic view of a map with a voice over and the name “Uncharted”, no number or subtitle.
EDIT: And Amazon has PS4 Launch Editions in stock now for anyone looking to buy.
Well that didn’t take long.

I… might have to get a PS4 in order to play Uncharted 4. Uncharted 2 and 3 are the best exclusive games from the PS3 overall (in my memory the two games seem to run together). Still haven’t gotten through TLOU yet though.
I was wrong on the internet. Already available, in stock, ships now, @ Amazon.
I am guessing these are extras, from people who ordered and cancelled or the charge didn’t go through on their card.
Anyone else unable to log in to PSN after installing the patch?
Lots of sony news tonight.

Technically, you were talking about being able to walk into a store so you’re not wrong about that.
