Just gave contrast a try which is the other free plus game. I have to say it’s pretty original. Just started Killzone. Tried streaming twitch and then watching it on the iPad app. It works pretty well at the high quality settings. You can’t remote play while broadcasting since I guess they both use the same hw encoder.

I was just looking at the trophy stuff on the PS4. It looks like they are using ‘realtime’ data to rate the trophies as common, rare, very rare, or ultra rare. You also see the % of players that have gotten the trophy. Neat.

After half a day of play the PS4 has exceeded my expectations by quite a bit. I had issues with PS+ at first too but they quickly resolved themselves, like 10 minutes after my first attempt everything was working fine and I was able to download Resogun and Contrast and Warframe, only played Resogun of those titles. It is an awesome Defender-alike.

Also bought (on disc to take advantage of various sales):

Killzone - much better than I expected once you get past the lame and predictable semi-interactive intro level. The story already doesn’t make a lot of sense but the shooting is fun. Haven’t tried MP yet.

Lego Marvel - typical fun lego theme game, best played co-op

Knack - pretty great, not sure why the reviews of this were so bad, maybe it peters out later but the first few chapters are great 3D platformer fun.

Assassins Creed 4 - pretty much what you’d expect, looks pretty on the new system

NFS Rivals - so far, so good. Burnout style arcade racing, looks very nice

The remote play stuff is really cool, especially the games like Knack and NFS Rivals where you can use the Vita as a second screen for 2 players. PS4 + Vita takes a huge bite out of what makes the Wii U special, relegating Nintendo hardware once again to something you get solely because you want to play Nintendo’s 1st party titles (granted, PS4+Vita == $560, which is significantly more than a Wii U, so there’s that too).

The UI might not be much different than what was on the PS3, but unlike some other reviews I’ve read, I prefer it to PS3 quite a bit. It is a lot more logically laid out, IMO, and it is very responsive when switching into the UI from a game. The real-time broadcasting and clip sharing stuff is super cool and Just Worked for me.

PS4 controller is, as most agree, a huge improvement. It doesn’t cramp my hands the way the PS3 one would after an hour or so of play, already feels pretty natural to me.

A+++ would next-gen again. Going to be super awesome once the big games like Watch Dogs, Destiny, whatever Naughty Dog and MM are working on are available.

After an evening of geeking out, I really like this machine. I can’t put my finger on the exact awesomeness, but the synergy of Vita integration, Killzone MP, streaming integration, DS4, Resogun (especially when the speaker surprised me), and the value of PS+ for a triple dipper all put me in happy camper mode. You can even start the PS4 from the Vita! Tomorrow morning, I am starting off with some off-screen…while still in bed.

Oh. And if you like tactical shooters, do yourself a favor and ignore the Killzone reviews. It is a darn good time. I think it will probably bounce off the masses as it is a tactical shooter and it tosses out the Pavlovian carrot to dopamine lure them onward with unlocks.

Congrats to the people that already have this console and is playing games with it.
Good luck, and have fun.

This generation will be a interesting ride.

Resogun looks a lot like DEFENDERS for the commodore 64.

What exactly is a tactical shooter? Is that as opposed to a shooter like Quake?

My understanding of the term is a shooter where going rambo will only get you killed and your team to lost the round. On a tactical shooter you play with the squad, taking positions to defend the other squad-mates, doing suppresion fire wen your friends are advancing, moving knowing where are your teammates to not create a hole where the enemy can enter to flank them, and so on.

In the brief time I had yesterday with the new system, I was quite impressed.

Everything was nice and zippy overall, the controller is a huge improvement. I may give the ustream stuff a go later for science.

Not sure if this is a good deal but GameDealDaily has 12 months of Playstation Plus for $40.

Warframe is pretty good. It plays like a mix of Phatasy Star Online and Unreal Championship. The art is terrible though, like a mixture of generic mudbox models and an industrial enviornment kit someone bought off the unity store. I enjoyed my time with it more than Killzone or Battlefield.

Warframe is awesome on the PC - much underrated for what it tries to do, and oozes atmosphere.

Hah, it feels like Unreal Championship because it was done by the same guys.

Anyone tried their PS4 controller on the PC? First Sony controller I haven’t hated and was thinking of picking up the controller for use on my living room PC. but curious how well it maps to the 360 controller on Windows.

Could just grab the 360 receiver for PC but figure I’ll be getting a PS4 whenever Infamous comes out so it’d be useful there in the future.

Works fine for me.

It’s recognized as a generic PC controller interface. Only problem is some games only exclusively support the X360 controller so you’ll need to use an emulator for that.

So my PlayStation Plus account still isn’t showing up. Anyone else have this problem and if so, how did you resolve it? I was hoping this is just a minor launch issue that doesn’t require a call to customer support.

I’ve been using mine for a few days. I absolutely love it.

Killzone is quite good… much better than I thought it would be. Pretty much for the same reasons given above.

AC4 is great. It’s nice to play the game at a steady 30 FPS unlike AC3 at launch.

Knack is still in shrinkwrap, haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Battlefield 4 is absolutely amazing. Being able to play it on the couch with a huge TV and booming 5.1 is the way BF should be played. Hunching over my desk with headphones on to play BF3 just didn’t do it for me. I also love that there is a testing ground where you can practice choppers and jets.

I played Resogun briefly, and it definitely oozed the Housemarque charm and playability. However, I don’t understand how the game works, and there are no instructions. So, I have these humans in boxes… every once in a while a box will start glowing blue and either the human falls out of it or he dies. I have no idea what causes it or how to prevent it.

I installed a 1.5TB drive and it was a total breeze. Definitely going all-digital past launch… the only reason I have physical copies of games is because of the buy 2 get 1 free on Amazon.

Anyhow, two big thumbs up from me.

Had some time with my PS4 today (update downloaded before I had even made it through the initial setup so installed that right away) but only after wading through the inability to connect to the PSN (decided to go out for a few hours instead), then inability to connect to the store (watched some BD extras that wasted an hour before trying again). Love the controllers, the new camera (facial recognition to log on, ha!), the use of voice commands (although they need more commands available), the UI works smoothly and the store experience is leaps and bounds better than what was on the PS3 which I felt was extremely hitchy. Haven’t found a way to customize the look of the PS4 background yet (is there even a way?).

Didn’t bother upgrading the drive as I’m not big on console gaming (compared to my PC) and never filled any of the 80 GB FAT, 160 GB Slim, or the 320 GB Slim PS3s. Although I might regret that decision with the size of downloads and the fact that I have a PS+ membership (unlike for almost all the life of the previous PS3s).

Only tried out Resogun in terms of gaming (downloaded Contrast and Flower, though, both free for me). Actually quite enjoyed Resogun for the short time I played, although like flyinj, I’m feeling like I don’t quite get what I’m supposed to do all the time. Didn’t try out Knack (I got it for $20 off when I bought a second controller), but I’m not digging the reviews out there and dread trying it.

Very much felt the loss of Sony’s remote. I watched a bit of those BD extras on the PS4 but finished them up on the PS3 where I can use the PS3 remote. They need a PS4 remote asap for me to get the most out of the PS4.

But alas, I guess that’s about it. I like the system (love the DS4) and there haven’t been any surprises other than the failure to connect to the PSN/store for a while. My wife’s playing COD:Ghosts on the PS3 and the constant drive thrashing is driving me nuts. Definitely go digital if you want that game people (I have no interest, it looks like trash; probably won’t upgrade to the PS4 version).

Knack is way better than the reviews suggest, in my opinion. Really fun 3D platform/beat-em-up.

As far as COD: Ghosts goes, not sure what you meant by looking like trash, if you don’t enjoy the gameplay obviously the PS4 version is no better than any other, but in terms of visuals, the PS3 version is the worst looking port and the PS4 version is by far the best looking port (of the console versions, I’m sure high-res PC version is even better). Still ultimately a last-gen game, but the PS4 version is very crisp looking.

Thought I was in this thread and not the Killzone one, but I’ll just repeat it here. The Twitch integration looks pretty great. Seems to be a lot of PS4 streams too.
